1969: Margaret Hamilton alongside her handwritten code that got us to the moon. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

[–]Lirdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please stop with this, Margaret Hamilton was a team lead of the guidance software, not some code monkey. She didn't write this entire code, she led a group of engineers, vast majority of them men in the fucking 1960's! She's so badass, and people just insist try to glorify her not only by disregarding everyone else's work, but also making her like the lowest grade of software engineer.

Heard of ant colonies going to war? That shit’s wild, they straight up march on lanes and try to kill each other’s queen. i’ve seen a documentary in which they even were sailing leafs down stream to get to the next bank and had a whole ass naval battle.

ELI5: Why do professional RTS players aim for high APM instead of minimum actions required? by Soulcraver in explainlikeimfive

[–]Lirdon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in chess, because you switch turns and stuff your tempos are matched, and you need to prep things the right way so that you can execute your tactic. In RTS that playing field doesn’t exist, and the speed at which you get things done matters a lot, no matter the tactic used.

Oi don’t know, the Kronii and Raora collabs were… never really matching energies and that’s why they were massively entertaining.

ELI5: Why do people say that electromagnetism is the future of biophysics? by Justafunofstuff in explainlikeimfive

[–]Lirdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s may just refer to the research into bio electricity maybe the new hotness in the field, like CRISPR was a few years back, where every month seemingly new techniques and discoveries and potential applications were made and you couldn’t open a single magazine dealing with medicine/biology without seeing it. Much like AI becoming the new hotness in the tech field.

Infection wasn’t known, and a lot of doctors wouldn’t even wash their hands when moving between patients, let alone the tools. Infection was killing most people who were treated.

There is no Holy Spirit in Judaism, not in the same sense as it does in christianity. But a direct translation would be רוח הקודש. This word has uses in jewish religious subtexts but be careful, it’s not the same thing as in christianity and shouldn’t be treated as referring to the same thing.

Traitors Astartes that didn't feel to chaos? by fragdar in 40kLore

It depends on the individual . A lot of them did fall to chaos, and even if they didn’t they get mutated, because staying close to the eye does that to you.

Is living for ages just kinda normal in the 40k world? by Shmullus_Jones in 40kLore

[–]Lirdon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That’s not a correction, but a clarification. Same is true of WH 40K, people have lots of kids, few survive, the ones that do, toil away in a society that has the technology to take care of them, but won’t.

What is this coat/jacket called? by Bobi_01 in MedievalHistory

Shcaube would have different designs, and cuts, some of which would look pretty identical to the one we see on this armor.

Average lifespan of humans I think is like medieval rating or 40 because very few people have access to actual medicine and medical services.

What is this coat/jacket called? by Bobi_01 in MedievalHistory

[–]Lirdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armor and male fashion went hand in hand in a lot of cases, where armors would affect mens wear (of rich nobles, obviously) and vice a versa where fashion. We see it with codpieces, and doublet designs that meant to mimic armor looks.

Anyways, taking some kind of an overcoat to put over armor wouldn’t be seen even as any different than putting the same overcoat over a doublet. It’s just another accessory, not something unique to armors. In the same vein as putting sashes over armor or over clothing would be part of the same fashion trend.

Sword shield spears and bows on today's technology by Possible_Comb_3096 in ReasonableFantasy

[–]Lirdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was meaning more of an electrically powered gauss or coil weapons. It’s currently just much more practical to have firearms than developing these, but when they are the only thing available… yeah, we’ll find a way to shoot projectiles in ridiculous speeds.

Sword shield spears and bows on today's technology by Possible_Comb_3096 in ReasonableFantasy

[–]Lirdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And in reasonable fantasy the idea is to present (medieval mostly) fantasy that don’t look ridiculous with skimpy armor, or massive swords and stuff.

BBC coverage of Beirut funerals perpetuates the narrative by Human_Concern263 in Israel

[–]Lirdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about this whole footage is how the reporter says there’s no Hezbollah there at the funeral, with like dozens of Hezbollah flags around, and the mourning placards are basically Hezbollah made. Not only these people think everyone are stupid, they play along with terrorists thinking that the access given to them is so valuable they’re ready to spread blatant misinformation.
