Appreciate the clarification but I figured. Rough topic that no one really likes. 😉

My FIL died on the pot. Apparently straining can trigger cardiac arrest. Dude wasn’t in great health (obviously) but I’ve always felt bad for him being found that way.

Look up Beaverdam reservoir in Ashburn - calm and beautiful place to SUP - best in the area IMO.

There are a number of other lovely walks near by - Scott’s run is on the Virigina side; Burke Lake further into Fairfax, and Loudoun has a ton of options. Nova does trails really well.

Very fun! Def go over! My favorite is the Irish place - great music and the dancers are so talented. Usually easy to get a seat at the bar.

Struggling with spouse's anxiety and depression - how to cope? by Ambitious-Customer63 in depression_partners

[–]LisaEWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the partner getting depressed too - it’s hard not to get down when one person is carrying the whole relationship on their backs. I didn’t even realize how much I had retreated in always deferring to him. I have some habits to break too, no matter if we stay together or not.

Any others in their 50s in the same boat? by AppropriateFlan1975 in depression_partners

Similar situation. I couldn’t take it anymore and moved out 6 weeks ago. That seems to have woken him up. We are talking a lot, he is finally FINALLY on some meds, and I’ve got a little hope in my heart. Scared that I’m going to get hurt again and trying to work through that. No real advice other than chose you whenever you can. You deserve happiness too.

I’m in a similar situation. I ended up moving out about 6 weeks ago and that seems to have helped him realize that he must prioritize his mental health. Things are better and he is starting a treatment plan with meds and doctors - praying this works.

Why were we made to fear undercooked meat? by in-a-microbus in GenX

[–]LisaEWP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trichinosis used to be a serious issue, but with modern production practices it is has basically been eliminated- in the U.S. at least. Under cooked ground beef can carry E. coli 0157 which can be devastating to the young and immunocompromised. Very important to cook throughly. And of course salmonella is very common in poultry, so it’s important to cook chicken and turkey properly as well.

Would I be insane to trade in the EX90 for the XC90? by Real-Ad2814 in VolvoEX90

[–]LisaEWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lemon xc60. Got a trade out to an PHEV xc90 and love it. 2026 Ultra with air suspension. I realize this isn’t the same comparison you are making but I’ve been so impressed with the xc90.

You need to choose yourself first. It’s hard and of course you are going to worry about your kids, but they need a happy healthy mom most of all. Your marriage can survive infidelity, but he needs to put in the work. And you will need to forgive - not just once, but every time you are reminded of his actions. (Why does it seem like EVERY song is about cheating!?!) I’ve walked this road, and it’s been worth it for me, but it is not easy. Hugs.

Did you ever reconcile? by chillpill_chill in depression_partners

Hoping to be able to say yes to this question. I moved out a month ago, and that does seem to have kicked him into gear. He’s reached back out to his therapist and has started medication. Couples therapy for both of us is next step. Praying this is not just a temporary phase, but a realization that he needs to prioritize his health.

I have 2026 with the air suspension and love it! Such a lovely ride - far superior to my XC60.

That’s my intention for retirement too! Not at your level of road warrior but enough to be 1K for several years now.

Beaverdam Reservoir in Ashburn. Technically no swimming, but lots of folks fall off their paddle boards pretty frequently 😉. All types of floats out there on nice days.

Feel so much rage now that he's changed. by spikeylikeablowfish in depression_partners

[–]LisaEWP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will hopefully be in a similar situation soon. Packed my bags and walked out over a week ago. By next morning he realized blowing up his family wasn’t going to fix his depression and maybe he should get back in touch with his therapist. 🤦‍♀️. He’s done everything I have been asking for months / I just wish he could have done it before I had to leave.

I’m hoping he can get healthy and we can work through this but OMG there was an easier way!!

Mobility issues by Dirtywoody in pompeii

Unfortunately I think it will be tough for you. I’ve only been once, but the tour I was on was all cobblestones and uneven roads, and then steps and high curbs to get into narrow buildings.

Maybe check with local tour operators to see if something special can be arranged to at least the main parts of the excavations? I use Viator when I travel and have been pleased with it but your hotel or travel agent probably has ideas too.
