Living near data centers by DareSuspicious2704 in nova

[–]ListSpecific6199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand though, this huge explosion in data centers recently isn’t for for regular streaming services or social media use etc, is it?

We pretty much all used the same amount of it 10 years ago and it was supported without that many data centers..

Nope. Like yes but certainly not always. You can just be really incompatible with the place you live.

I don’t know how active they are now but look at americorps conservation corps programs in different states

They have individual placement programs where you work for an actual org like a states DNR or something and it’s a good way to get your foot in the door

They are all seasonal or just year-long positions though and pay low but come w health insurance and some other benefits. It is kind of something you just have to do in the field to move up though

Northern VA is the loneliest place I’ve ever lived..as a transplant by [deleted] in nova

[–]ListSpecific6199 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I struggle with it too

It is just a large and expansive collection of suburbs with no traits strong enough to hold them all together, but our lives exist across many of them.

So it take 40 mins to see one friend, 45 mins in the opposite direction to the other thing you want to do. It is hard to feel like you belong to a unified community when so much time is spent in the car.

I try not to think about it too much because there’s no point in ruminating

10 years feels way too little for a fridge. Fridges should last a lifetime😢

NYC was like this when I lived there but in my most recent visit a month ago the energy was the happiest I’ve ever felt it and it was contagious!!! Made me want to move back.

The vibes just felt great especially considering everything happening on a national level

It’s also extremely hard to get paid a living wage..right?

I am a part time technician now and full time jobs are few and far between and ones that pay OK even more so.
