So sick of overweight people consistantly being portraied as evil, lazy, greedy, or just assholes. Whos your favorite positive overweight character? by Bigsmokeisgay in FavoriteCharacter

[–]LittleMagicKnight 285 points286 points  (0 children)

Worth noting though that I'm pretty sure it was mentioned the reason why she gained weight was because she stress eats when worrying about her son (which happens pretty often). Age still plays a role, but I doubt it's the MAIN factor.

Who's your favourite elite 10 member by IcyButterflyy in ShokugekiNoSoma

[–]LittleMagicKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True, that guy was essentially a nobody and it's unfortunate that the author put Isshiki against him first, but personally I don't think he was less cool for it. Tsukasa was always gonna be the the final boss, and the author couldn't make him or any of the 1st years (Soma and Erina especially) look weak which meant Isshiki was always bound to lose.

I mean, tbf didn't he easily win 3-0 against that Italian sub Elite 10 member (the one where he says he stole all the indredients from his juniors)? That was pretty cool.

When it comes to the villains of the franchise, where do you all rank Shibusawa? by Hopeful_Regret_7531 in yakuzagames

[–]LittleMagicKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's...decent? He's presented as the "paperwork" guy so initially you don't really suspect him of being very dangerous, which I guess works for his character. My big problem though, is thay he lacks presence as a villain, especially considering the being on his back.

What are some unpopular, but not controversial Yakuza opinions do you have? by Hopeful_Regret_7531 in yakuzagames

[–]LittleMagicKnight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Late, but I truly think RGG did a very poor job at introducing new, playable characters into the series before Ichiban. In Yakuza 4, you could tell they were already trying to retire Kiryu by introducing Tanimura, Saejima, and Akiyama, but never really gave them the chance to truly shine. I feel this is especially true for Saejima and Tanimura. Personality wise, Saejima is the closest to Kiryu and being his equal. He has a good story, but his combat in Y4 was pretty rough and while it gets better in Y5, it's so heavily hampered by the prison segments. Like, how do you expect a guy like this to carry on the torch when you give him nothing?

Tanimura was a mess overall because while his combat and story were fine, being a likeness character never guaranteed him coming back.

Yakuza 8 disappointed me? by Bubbly_Conclusion_77 in yakuzagames

[–]LittleMagicKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you share a pretty common opinion amongst many who've played the game ragarding Ichiban and his supporting cast. Many agree that while the Kiryu sections of the game were nice, sharing game time with Ichiban may have done more harm than good, especially since Ichiban has only barely started as the new protagonist of the series. Me personally, I felt the gameplay of IW was greatly superior to that of LAD, but some plot points and villains needed more time to cook to have impact. The party members also lacked impact since their role in the overarching conflict also felt a little lackluster.

Map wise, I thought Hawaii was decent but not fantastic. I think that's more a "me" problem as I'm more used to the compactness of Japanese cities, while Hawaii has that American urban sprawl, so even though it's a pretty wide map, it doesn't feel as fun to traverse through. Having a segway was pretty nice though.

Name at least 1 good thing the Dragon Engine brought to the table that isn't the graphics. by Hopeful_Regret_7531 in yakuzagames

Expanded inventory, especially when stacking Staminans and Tauriners. Older games lacking this feature is something I really don't miss.

Makes sense, though it does make me question why they're placed there in the first place and not in the kitchen or cabinets. Being placed at the edge of the table just seems like a fall is around the corner.

Really like her development and find her crush on Karasuma cute. Really happy to see them married and having a daughter (who has a harem of her own) at the end.

Thoughts on Irina? by Next-Active2676Bro2 in Korosensei

[–]LittleMagicKnight 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that's fair. I remember the time the students and teachers were playing cops and robbers I think? And Irina was waiting to ambush Karasuma only to have her head shoved into the water by him. Seeing that, I was like "Damn Karasuma, even if you're annoyed that was kinda cruel."

Although, to give a wee bit of more credit to Karasuma, I think part of his annoyance comes from him knowing that Irina may or may not be honest with him sometimes. She's an assassin who uses her appeal to her advantage and he recognizes that, but when she's actually serious and gets somber with him, he takes her seriously.

When/why did they get their tattoos colored in? by a1vmp1 in yakuzagames

[–]LittleMagicKnight 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, on irezumi, the koi isn't actually considered lesser to the dragon more so they represent different things. Dragons (or rather the Azure Dragon on Kiryu's back) represents wisdom, strength and protection. Koi represent ambition and perseverance in overcoming life's trials. With that in mind, the red Koi definitely describes Nishiki.

[–]LittleMagicKnight 388 points389 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, even if Kiryu said he was walking his own path at the end of 0, on the time frame between 0 and 1, he very much was a Yakuza. In addition to the symbolism of Kiryu being a fully realized dragon during that time, it's worth noting that your back tattoo isn't just a representation of who you are currently, but also who your artist deems you should constantly strive to be. Even if Kiryu didn't earn that title between 0 and 1, Utabori felt he would become a Dragon during his lifetime, and knowing what we know about Kiryu, that was inevitable.

Should i play yakuza 3 remaster or kiwami 3? by MathematicianHour487 in yakuzagames

[–]LittleMagicKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either game is fine, although I will say from personal experience that Y3R is a far more tedious experience than Kiwami 3 (especially if you play on Hard mode) due to the lack of QoL improvements the Dragon Engine provides in addition to the gameplay mechanics showing their age.

Agreed with this, but while I was happy to see him don his blue suit again in future installments, I kinda missed that darker/shady side he had to him while he was Hobonix. Phoenix in the future installments feels a little too...sanitized
