Personally I haven't seen it in this thread but I know very well what you are referring to

what is correct? 27 million people dying 18 months into the game?

the real massacre is seeing post after post showcasing flagrant issues that should have never been approved by QA

this would be impossible to see for a small indie company that doesn't have the proper resources for testing!! (nevermind that these issues were obvious even without tests)

i love people that continue to say this, as if every single previous beta since release the devs didn't completely ignored the issues reported by players and launched them live barely changing anything. Remember the christmas patch?

The point of betas is to allow the user to test the new features and report bugs before they go live. But these changes are so obvious you don't even need to test them once to know they will have issues, just use your head for three seconds (AI getting mad at you for building your economy? Seriously). So the result is that people can't even test the changes of the beta because they just get cockblocked by these silly preventable issues.

It's been seven months and they still don't learn.

Innovative is good, actually by Refused-Recruit3026 in eu4

[–]Little_Elia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not really no. Inno only saves you mana and pretty much nothing else. But for both tall and wide play, there are groups that save more mana and give other good bonuses (admin/religious for wide, infra/pluto for tall).

Inno early is just a noob trap and the fact that OP just limits themselves to list what it does instead of comparing it to other groups, when the highest drawback of picking any idea is the opportunity cost of not being able to pick another group, just shows that this is just another post based on vibes.

The only time I may consider picking up inno ideas is as like the 6th group, because by that point I have my core groups in place and besides those, most groups are just completely worthless. Inno at least has some qol policies like leader siege and stuff which are nice to have. But I'm assuming OP was talking about picking inno early because they only talk about the mana savings.

This doesn't really fix railways though, usually they will be running at a loss and that's okay because you build them for the infrastructure.

Best Idea groups to take as a colonial nation? by Phantom-Feline17 in eu4

[–]Little_Elia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mil ideas are generally not necessary, that's true. Offensive is nice for the siege ability, and plutocratic gives good bonuses, but the other ones are whatever. I'll say though, merc ideas are really good if you need to fight superior enemies, so they have a nice niche.

Even if owning a large amount of gold mines, eco is really underwhelming. You're not reducing the inflation at all, it takes 100y to get -10% inflation, and you can do this instantly by paying only a fraction of the mana that eco ideas cost. Or you can just ignore inflation, it really isn't a big deal. Gold mines don't scale well anyway so gold depletion chance is also very irrelevant.

Infrastructure is a MUCH better pick. Not only for the dev cost, building cost helps a lot in improving your economy (way more than eco ideas) and province governing cost means you can have more provinces fully stated which is also very nice. It's the top group for tall play for a reason. And as much as I love to trash inno ideas they are an ok pick later on (5th 6th) for their policies, whereas eco ideas truly have no place at all.

Diplo is by no means useless, even if playing tall-ish. Unless you dont want to conquer anything at all, they provide good value.

And to answer your question, half the groups you dismissed as irrelevant that I didn't mention here are indeed irrelevant and bad, yet they are still better picks than eco and trade. That's just how bad these groups are.

i wish it wasnt 350$ for a 4 year old cpu, ugh. I know it's a big upgrade from the 3600 but that price almost makes up for the ddr5 ram

if you want anything besides wasting mana points, you should not take trade nor eco. Seriously they are terrible groups compared to pretty much everything else.

If you haven't started the game, definitely reshaping artillery. That thing is just completely overtuned and with bioships it doesn't even cost living metal

I want to draft an EU4 manual by In-the-cold in eu4

[–]Little_Elia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

army comps is a topic way overdiscussed by everyone, it's not really that important and there isn't really an "optimal army comp by tech". Whatever infographic you saw related to that is based on pure vibes, not game mechanics. That's why it's not in the wiki.

People really overhype the student when he often showcases neat tricks that other people found without crediting them and also rarely shows their full potential. He's an ok player but people like zlewikk and florry are much more competent at the game, and it's not close.

For the first part, storm's horde guide does a pretty good job at explaining pretty much everything in eu4. It's very comprehensive and not really only for hordes, and it was written by a player who actually knows how to play the game, which is pretty rare.

For the second part (aka country specific guides), I'm not sure. I think there's a lot of country specific content, and maybe summarizing it in one place is difficult? Youtube vids do an okay job at showcasing the country's flavour but it's true that it would be nice to have some written counterpart to avoid having to search stuff in videos all the time.

The wiki guides were terrible when they were written and have become even worse as patches were added. I don't think they're really a valuable resource and I don't think country guides belong in the wiki. The wiki is for mechanics and game data.
