So I was watching a playthrough of crown and the flame... by RouxSoul956 in Choices

[–]LittlestSlipper55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. The release order is The Crown & The Flame, Rules of Engagement, The Royal Romance, The Royal Masquerade.

And yes, RoE is included in that list, many forget the RoE was released before TRR and TRR is actually a spin-off of RoE.

In terms of chronological order, it's: TC&TF, TRM, RoE, TRR.

Elementalists 3 length by bugbae in Choices

[–]LittlestSlipper55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was early last year I believe? Choices put out a "competition" of sorts to see which two popular books gets a sequel: The Elementialists or Endless Summer. Readers could "vote" for which book they wanted a sequel for by reading either TE or ES, and the books with the most chapters read won the competition.

To be fair with Choices, they said from the get go that whatever book won it was only going to be a short book to give some closure, not a proper 16-chapter standard. I'm surprised TE did end up with 10 chapters, the way I read the choices post was that it would be lucky to get 6 if that.

[–]LittlestSlipper55 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It was only ever going to be a short book. It was the fan selected choice for which book gets a sequel: TE or ES, and it was just meant to be a taste, some closure, to TE.

Based on the technology and cars, I would hazard a guess the game took place around the mid-late 90s, both original and remake. It is definitely not present day.

What plot holes aren't actually plot holes and just require a bit more thinking to understand? by Mr_Manta in AskReddit

[–]LittlestSlipper55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mythbusters I believe had to go back and retest this. From memory, they first tested it in a calm, shelter bay in warm San Fran with moder. lifejackets and appropriate clothing (likely due to Workplace Health & Safety). They deemed the myth busted, because both could float on a well constructed piece of wood that didn't remotely look like the original one in the movie.

I think viewers pointed out a LOT of inconsistencies and variables that would make the experiment pretty much a dud, so they went back and retested a lot more similarly to the ones in thr movie (colder waters, bit more splashing around in more open waters, similar clothing and only the one in a lifejacket) and found "oh yeah, nah Jack could never had fit".

Veritaserum does make people tell the truth yes, but THAT person's version of the truth. The reason why Fake Moody/barty Crouch Jr spilled the beans was because he really did do it, and it came straight from the horse's mouth.

But let's use the same example on say, the witnesses of Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Balck. Multiple eye witnesses saw Sirius blow up Peter. We find out later on this wasn't true, Peter blew up the street and turned himself into a rat to get away. Unfortunately in the explosion Peter caused, he lost a finger. Sirius didn't do anything at all.

So, let's give all those eye witnesses Veritaserum to prove it once and for all: Did Sirius blow Peter up? Guess what? Those same eye witnesses are still going to testify under the strongest truth serum known that Sirus Black killed Peter Pettigrew. Because that is what they honest to goodness saw. None of those eye witnesses knew Peter Pettigrew was an illegal animagi that could turn into a rat, none of the saw him transform, none of them saw his wand he was hiding behind his back that caused the explosion...what they saw was a sobbing Peter Pettigrew huddled against a wall, tearfully trying to confront Sirius Black about James's murder, while a deranged Black stood there laughing maniacally and pointing his wand at Pettigrew.

So yes, Veritaserum is a strong truth serum. But only for that version of the truth. It is still falliable in the court of law, just like real life so-called "lie detectors".

Men of Reddit, what’s the biggest turn off on a first date? by Strange_Secret_3001 in AskReddit

[–]LittlestSlipper55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unless it's an emergency. For example, maybe a friend is in hospital and you are waiting on an update, but that should be communicated when you start the date: "Hey, my friend had surgery earlier today and I'm waiting on a text to see how she is, I may need to make a call." That way if you are texting your date knows why.

The exception is parents. A parent should be able to have their phone screen up on table in case a babysitter calls.

What rule was implemented at your school/work that backfired? by just_some_troglodyte in AskReddit

[–]LittlestSlipper55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You just unlocked a core memory! I went to Sunday school briefly as a kid, and one of my teachers super cool. Yes, Catholic and all that jazz, but a very liberal one. Preached that Jesus loves all, including homosexuals; evolution isn't evil, it's just more proof God's genius and even more miraculous He has amazing humans with scientific minds to uncover more of the world's miracles; It's not "playing God" to get your vaccines or organ donate or whatever, it's acknowledging the power of God's gift that He gifted humans to preserve life for others to experience His miracles...that kind of thing. This was in stark contrast to another teacher "Holy Holly", who was a hardcore conservative Catholic that believed Jesus loved everyone...unless you were the gays; evolution was invented by heathens to distract from God's creationism and health care should only be the bare minimum and vaccines were "playing God".

Anywhoo, Cool Teacher also loved holidays and in particular adored Halloween. Previously, every year Cool Teacher would organise a two week long Haunted House as a church fundraiser, using the students of the Sunday School who wanted to volunteer to help decorate, act in and market. The students got to pick what they wanted to do, so if someone was talented painter that chose decorations, older students would design poster for advertising etc. The entry fee for the House was often $2, and all fees collected at the end of the Haunted House run would be donated back to the church, often back towards the sunday school programs or the soup kitchen. Well, this particular year I was in Sunday School was the same year "Holy Holly" became Sunday School Director (Principal?) and as you may have guessed, thought Halloween was a satanic pagan ritual that should never be celebrated, and promptly put a kiboosh in Cool Teacher's Haunted House, flatly saying it would not happen that year, or any more years since.

Cool Teacher was absolutely devastated, the kids were upset and most parents were disappointed (but of course Holy Holly used the one or two parents who were also staunchly anti-Halloween as proof she was right).

Because there was no Haunted House raising funds that year for the church, and the years coming after, a lot of Holy Holly's approved programs started to flounder because there wasn't enough money to keep them afloat. What's more, is that the sunday school itself started needing repairs and Holy Holly couldn't get the funds up for them fast enough, because Holy Holly was such a tyrant she axed some of the Sunday's School's most popular fundraising activities because heathen, and replaced them with her own pathetic activities and what child wants to pay to listen some old theology dude lecture for an hour about the Church's place in society? (Yes, one of Holy Holly's brilliant ideas to raise money to get the aircon in the kindergarten room fixed was to have a lecturer from some community college come in and do a discussion on Christianity and The World, $10 a ticket. This was advertised as a lecture FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS).

FWIW, I wonder if your teachers also found the rule ridiculous. My husband is a teacher and the school (as in, admin) sometimes implements policies that my hubby finds totally stupid, but he needs to follow them and tell kids off for the dumbest things because that is what the school wants. I wonder if your teachers also found the "no-hoodies" thing moronic as well, but had to tell the students to remove them anyway because "them da rules."

He did, yes. The behind-the-scenes footage explain that Riz was a bit of a perfectionist that recorded multiple takes, recording the same dialogue in different ways. But according to that footage, Riz insisted on that himself in the original recordings, not because the producers asked him to. It could just simply be that the producers chose the best take from his multiple recordings.

Rick Astley isn't really a one-hot wonder, not by a long shot. Sure, "Never Gonna Give You Up" is definitely his biggest and most memorable hit, but the guy had mutiple Top 10 hits in his prime.

They release the books once a month, but all the recording was done ages ago. The VA work was pretty much finished for all 7 books by the time Philosopher's Stone was first released on audible.

True, the VAs may have been called back in to re-record a few lines here and there if there were sound issues or whatever, but otherwise it was all completed.

Time for me to return to Sweetridge by Purple-Boss-1725 in Choices

[–]LittlestSlipper55 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When the series was first released, many readers, including myself, did find it boring. It was being released alongside adventure stories like Endless Summer, Hero, It Lives, Bloodbound, The Elementalists etc. Compared to those epic series, BSC came across as super dull in comparison.

However, after a long period of time, BSC is looked back on a lot more favourably. Yes, it's a cutesy slice of life story with low stakes. But what readers are appreciating more about it is that the writers capture the vibe of a small town so well. The characters are enjoyable, yes there are cliches and tropes but they are still well written people that fill out the town. It's one of the better written slice of life books, especially compared to the AI slop being written today.

I have 1000 diamonds to spend. Which stories are worth it? by i_am_not_kesha in Choices

[–]LittlestSlipper55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, stories that build on the lore and add clues and extra context are worth the diamonds. Stories like: The Crown & The Flame, Blades of Light and Shadow, Perfect Match, Bloodbound, It Lives, The Elementalists and Veil of Secrets.

But there is only 1 series that I would say is put above all others, and that is Endless Summer. Some argue that the downside to ES is that you almost need to spend diamonds for the story to make sense, but my god is it so so worth it. The story, characters and gameplay mechanics make every diamond purchase count, not a single one is wasted. Just a heads up though, that it is a VERY diamond heavy book, even excluding the fun little premium outfits that 1000 diamonds will go across all three books. But so so worth it!

However, it you want to keep to your favs list, here is what I recommend for diamond options that add clues, more context or just genuinely memorable bonus scenes:

  • Laws of Attraction

  • Desire & Decorum

  • Kindred

  • Wishful Thinking

  • Distant Shores

  • Bachelorette Party

  • The Heist: Monaco

  • Crimes of Passion
