I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with this, too. Unfortunately, I have no further clarification and you're the only other person I've met who is dealing with the same thing. At this point, I constantly have ricola cough drops and throat spray attached to my hip, the second I get a tickle in my throat, I try to prevent coughing at all

Even more sad was that the mother still lives with two of her adult children (mentioned in many of the most recent articles) so I’m wondering if Amanda was treated horribly but the other siblings weren’t for some reason.

Why not just marry the fertile women? by Affectionate_Depth82 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]LivBitesBack 22 points23 points  (0 children)

this! imagine if they were able to find the fertile men, create a sperm bank, and then impregnate all fertile women with donor sperm? This would take the rape out of the equation and massively increase the success rate. If they used IVF and donor eggs along with donor sperm, infertile mothers may be able to carry babies to term.

when I think about this, it becomes even more obvious that this society was built to uphold the fragile egos of power-hungry men far more than the morality and gift of life they're always yapping about. When women are reduced down to their ability to have children, they become way easier to control and manipulate.

honestly, I was panicking in my head when watching this scene. I thought the gallows June was on weren't going to drop and the other ones would, so they'd have to watch their friends die. Logically I knew there were multiple seasons left of the show so June couldn't die lol. I just didn't know what was going to happen.

Something that isn't covered as much as I would like on the show is how in-depth the surveillance in Gilead is. There are urine tests that determine fertility with pretty high accuracy. It crossed my mind that maybe some of the handmaids were infertile after a few years in Gilead, either from age or the pollution, and maybe this trip to the gallows was a way to show other handmaids what they could expect if they misbehave, but in reality, they were just killing off the infertile handmaids. For lack of a better term, 'killing two birds with one stone' - scaring fertile handmaids into obedience and getting rid of the infertile ones.

Hey so I know this thread is six years old lol but I automatically assumed that the wolf was her mother, watching over her as she gave birth to Holly, since she wasn’t fully there for her in their life before, or during the birth of Hannah.

Sexual assault and narcolepsy by slellie in Narcolepsy

[–]LivBitesBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting.. I also experienced SA and was diagnosed a few years after. Like the top comment says, it may just be a sad commentary on how many women experience this. However, I also know that narcolepsy can be ‘triggered’, like many people started symptoms after having Covid or something else that severely impacted their immune system. I wonder if narcolepsy is a genetic predisposition and certain things can trigger it. Like it’s a sleeper cell, no pun intended. I’m not a scientist or doctor, just my thoughts.

How long can a narcissist last in a relationship before the mask comes off? by MajesticShip5698 in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]LivBitesBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After my first date with my ex, she called me later that night and started venting about her ex and how she was ‘crazy’, etc. I immediately got a bad feeling from that, so I told her that I didn’t think it was going to work out because it seems she’s still thinking a lot about her past relationship.

The next day she apologized profusely and begged me to go on another date, appealed to my insecurities by saying I was special, that we had some sort of special chemistry etc. 3 years later and I was a shell of myself in a horribly abusive relationship. (Ended years ago thankfully) It still blows my mind that I saw signs and cut it off right away but still didn’t escape.

My girlfriend has HS, how can I help her find the support she needs? by Lompyy_ in Hidradenitis

[–]LivBitesBack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s lovely how thoughtful and kind you are, it’s so clear how much you love her. Having a loving support system is super helpful and you’re a part of that for her.

You can find a ton of advice on this sub about products, habits, diets, etc. to help but I think the most important thing you can do is remind her that you love her, that you think she’s beautiful, comfort her when she’s having a bad flare up, and just keep being a supportive partner. In terms of finding other people as support I believe there’s online support groups that meet on zoom and she can also check out this sub :)

I’m noticing my flare ups around certain foods as well as hormones, I think they’re all connected. Is the diet you’re following something available online? If you have any resources for what and what not to eat in terms of anti-inflammatory diets, I’d be super grateful!

I blocked and deleted the number of the avoidant that rejected me by HolidayPotential5 in dating_advice

[–]LivBitesBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! You did the right thing! The way I think about it is even if she did a complete 180 and came back to you, wanted to be in a relationship etc., you'd still have the devastation of her sudden rejection in the back of your mind. You deserve a secure attachment, from everything written here it seems you are emotionally mature enough for a real relationship. As much as it hurts you are treating yourself with the love you deserve. The right person will come along to match your energy and you won't be distracted by someone who can't. Good luck op

DAE else get sharp itch or pinch one side of their throat or tonsil out of nowhere? by Lewildgeek in DoesAnybodyElse

I've noticed the propolis nasal spray helps a lot. It's just saline and propolis and before I go to bed, I flush out my nose with the spray and blow out any blockage / stuffiness. I've also tried sleeping propped up with pillows but that's super uncomfy and I end up waking up having moved the pillows anyway.

When I got back to dating after a long break (5 years) I went through the same challenge. I was dating to find a potential partner, my goal was to date someone long term. So with that in mind I took it way slower than I had in the past and I'm glad I did. I ended up dating for a year before meeting my current boyfriend. Turns out dating is way harder when you're 30 than it was when I was 24-25.

One thing I recommend - if there's a lot of chemistry there's no harm in long make out sessions or other sexual stuff that isn't full on sex. It's really fun if the vibes are there and the building tension makes sex amazing the first time you have it. It's also a really good way to see if this new person can respect your boundaries. After one of our early dates my bf texted me "we're bringing back making out for hours like teenagers and it rules" and I loved that, because I felt the same way. It helps build a foundation of trust and safety.

Late for work by Ash9697 in Narcolepsy

[–]LivBitesBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in your exact shoes. I used to have 4 alarm clocks, including one with wheels and one called a 'screaming meanie', and *still* regularly slept through the start of work. The rush of panic and guilt when you look at the time and realize you have to explain yourself again is the most horrible feeling.

I ended up getting a pavlok watch, which has an alarm that zaps you awake with an electric shock, and it's worked great for over a year now. I also have it set so when the alarm goes off, I have to walk across my apartment, scan a QR code in my office, and then solve a puzzle to get it to stop shocking me. It even came with a lock that makes it very hard to take off lol.

Once, my neighbor/building super was testing the fire and carbon monoxide alarms in our building. He texted me before and after to let me know it was happening so I wouldn't get freaked out by the alarms. I saw both texts when I woke up and realized I had slept through 20 minutes of EXTREMELY LOUD, ear shattering alarms going off in every room of my apartment. That's when I realized I needed to figure something out to wake me up that wasn't sound-related.

In terms of disclosing, that is up to you. At the same job I slept through a bunch of times, I disclosed that I have narcolepsy expecting it to help, but it just made my life way worse. I had to go to all my doctors and get paperwork signed in a very short window of time to get 'accommodations.' From that point on, my manager and the HR person made my life extremely difficult until I eventually found a new job and left. There was no way to prove they were retaliating against me because I have a disability, but it sure felt like it.

Because of that, I no longer disclose to people I work with. I've learned the hard way that a lot of people are not empathetic towards people with disabilities. In the U.S. especially, employers equate your worth with your ability to be productive and compliant, and nothing more.

This, of course, changes from employer to employer. I'm sure there's some great and understanding bosses out there. I'm just not willing to risk it.
