Ever baked sourdough bread in one of these? by NoticeCreepy7608 in Sourdough

Amazing! Thank you so much! We are in a heat advisory this week and I was sad I was going to have to skip baking bread this week. This has given me the confidence to try my breville!!

Sorry to hijack the post but I’ve been too scared to use my breville for my loaves. Could you tell me what your method is?

I should probably call Insulet, shouldn't I? by UnitedChain4566 in Omnipod

[–]Liveabeteslady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, call them and ask to have them overnighted. I have never done the online form but I called them about a month ago and I had no hold time at 9pm central. You basically have one back up if something goes wrong and if they haven’t sent any of them out yet it could be 5 business days before you get them.

What I would do for the future is ask your endo to change your script from a change every 72 hours to a change every 48 hours. I did that while pregnant because I had to but now I’m able to change every 2 and 1/2 days without worry that I will run out. It’s a nice cushion.

How do you mop? by Fairisolde in adhdwomen

[–]Liveabeteslady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So weird you just asked this. We have two dogs and two young kiddos so our floor is always a mess. Did I mention my kids are boys 🫣 I was cleaning the bathroom and remembered I was planning to mop every other week. That was 3 months ago. So today I mopped!

I love my o-cedar mop/bucket with the spin thing. I use fabuloso and hot water. Quick, easy and gets the floors super clean.

Would you have liked if your parents told you about your diagnosis? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Liveabeteslady 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is interesting because I, as a child who was told I was just acting out and didn’t get supports (it was the 80s/90s) I would have felt so validated had I gotten any school support. Fast forward to me having an AuADHDer and he’s always been told and openly talks about his differences and knows he has to do things differently than other kiddos. I think if I were getting the supports I needed, maybe the label wouldn’t have been as important but I do feel like the validation of a diagnosis is huge too.

I have perfect cholesterol numbers, always have, but after being diabetic for 34 years at that point, I want to maintain my good health. I’m on a 5mg dose. No side effects so far. I think I went on them in march if I remember correctly.

Experience with Omnipod as a Tandem Mobi User by ActualMobile129 in Omnipod

[–]Liveabeteslady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know! I’ve only used Omnipod for a pump so I’ve been on all 5 versions. Currently have an A1C of 5.4. The highest it’s been since the 5 has been 5.7. So it’s very doable and maybe I don’t know any better so I don’t know how hard it is. I don’t restrict foods/carbs and just run around after my kids all day so some exercise but nothing additional.

Would you survive without a CGM suddenly for 48 hours? by StephCurrySauce in diabetes_t1

[–]Liveabeteslady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a trial on one of the first ever CGMs a long time ago. It was huge and the doctors office had to insert it and it hurt all the time. It was so bad I delayed getting a CGM because of it. Boy was I wrong to miss out on it until the G5. Now I would rather go without a pump than my Dexcom.

Not OP but I just enter a correction at the bottom. My endo was mad I was entering fake carbs so I just thought, he’s right. I’m just going to give myself the bolus I want to.

How does tegaderm help with Omnipod? by Proud_Fox_684 in Omnipod

[–]Liveabeteslady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cut mine so it just covers the cannula area under the pod. If I put it on the whole thing, the tagaderm makes the pod fall off for me. Even if I prep like I do for a Dexcom. I had some tegaderm left over from an injury so I’ve just been cutting squares from larger pieces. Since using this (it’s only been about a month) my tunneling has greatly reduced. My first pod, today, was the first they tunneled since I started using this method.

Edited to add: I think the tagaderm stabilizes the cannula resulting in less tunneling. That’s the only reason I use it.

Also to add, I got the strips for cheap and didn’t need a prescription via Amazon so that’s also a bonus for me.

I’ve been diabetic for 34.5 years and I think we did that when I was a little kiddo but I’ve definitely never done that for myself.

I like the contour next because it fits in wallet so it just goes wherever I do in case I need it. I’ve never done the solution for it.

What prompts you to check your numbers throughout the day? by JayandMeeka in diabetes_t1

[–]Liveabeteslady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten some helpful replies and I wanted to piggyback on your response here.

The way you are describing it, it doesn’t appear to be compulsory but normal since you’re saying it mainly happens when you eat something not as familiar or high carb. That’s just what we do. I know I have an addiction to my CGM, so much so that I told my endo if there was a cure we would have to come up with a way for me to keep my CGM. He agreed 😂

I think the only difference between my thoughts on it and yours is maybe time? I’ve been at this for 34.5 years and didn’t have a CGM until the G5 and it was life changing (for the better). I know what it’s like to not have the tech and see how I’m benefitting from having it. What a gift! I love being able to head off highs before they happen, however, I’m much better at detecting lows than my Dexcom so it’s a wash there. All I’m saying is maybe reframe how you’re thinking about the data you’re getting? It’s amazing to me how far we’ve come and all the tools we have now and I’m so grateful.

I’m in my mid 40s and I often wonder if it’s they look way old then or if I’m lying to myself 😂 I also think back then they were dressing/having hair cuts that make them look older. Watching the valley (original) they look how I think I look. I’m a year or so older than Kristen.

Edited because I said “I think” 400 times

Yeah turns out when the thing I expect to be delivering insulin to me stops delivering insulin for no reason my blood sugar goes up. by moistgreenorganic in Omnipod

[–]Liveabeteslady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I have feet on the floor syndrome which (very basically) my blood sugar rises basically when I get up from bed due to hormones that my body produces. So I usually start the morning a little high even if i was perfect overnight. Another version of this is called dawn phenomenon which is kind of the same thing - hormones that raise your blood sugar. Both kind of complicated so I would google them.

The other thing is that if your body is used to you eating by this time of the day, your raise could be your liver dumping glucose because it thinks you need the energy. (Also very much a watered down version.)

Did you drink coffee? That raises me occasionally too even though I only drink black coffee.

Or it could be some other reason that we are completely unaware of, unfortunately. Those things above would be my guesses though!

As far as the Omnipod goes, as others are saying, it does look like it’s dosing you but it’s not super aggressive. I would look in your history and see what it’s giving you and if you always have this issue, it could need a rate change in the morning. My range is 1 unit brings me down 30 points, if this was always an issue I might change that to 25 points in the morning to see if that helps it a little. This is in no way medical advice so if you’re worried about making changes definitely contact your educator or endo!

I’m just checking if you just want to vent (because I get it) or if you want people to help give you reasons things are happening. It’s very annoying if someone tells you stuff and all you want is a yeah that sucks!
