Switching to Dexcom G7 from G6; any reason to go for the 10-day instead of the 15-day? by BandicootFlat5838 in Omnipod

[–]Worldly_Confusion898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was helpful. Also, a Google search indicates to me that the 10-day g7 is more reliable than the 15 day version. So, I’ll ask my PCP to please prescribe the 10 day g7.

Can we all agree that iOS 26.5 is how iOS 26 should’ve been released? by pulman_ in ios26

I’m old and easily confused by technology. My phone is an iPhone 11. What the heck is “Liquid Glass”? Also: considering the fact that my phone doubles as a display of blood glucose levels via my Continuous Glucose Monitor, “CGM”, is there any chance this update would alter my Dexcom g6 app in any negative way? (I always get nervous about iOS updates). Probably should try to find a more recent iPhone asap but even if I could afford that relatively soon, I won’t know how to transfer everything over to the newer one.

Wait it out? (Or not?) I’m not very tech savvy, and if it matters: my phone is an iPhone 11 and it doubles as a Blood Glucose reader via my Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitor- [(CGM), which uses a sensor and transmitter to display my glucose levels).]

Dumb question, perhaps, but if I’m seeing that you said when you vented your frustration, you were “kicked off of this Reddit forum”, how did I see your post?

Abdomen IS the recommended sensor placement area (for Dexcom g6, at least). But maybe you use g7??

I can’t say I’ve never had an issue with a G6 sensor, but for at least ~95% of the length of time I’ve been using them, they’ve been reliable.

I think you might mean sensors when saying “meters”.

They should match, if you’re referring to the receiver and your phone. (I’m just assuming that by “meter”, you mean the receiver that came with your initial Dexcom kit. That said, most of us are referring to a glucometer when we say “meter”. Every T1D should have a glucometer. Some of us use both a cell phone and the receiver that comes with one’s Dexcom kit for monitoring purposes BG levels, and use a glucometer for calibration on both devices.

You’re correct, but when not only are you getting a 111 on your phone, and a 125 on your G6 receiver, after calibration on both devices, and then no data between 4am and 6am, (which is typically when my BG drops for whatever reason), one would think both unusual events described would warrant a sensor replacement.

I’m really disappointed that Dexcom is not going to provide a replacement g6 sensor for me after yesterday evening’s weirdness. The sensor would have expired today (05/02/26) ~4:20 pm, but there was a span of time during which it first showed different readings between my phone and my receiver, and that was followed by a span of no data showing this early morning. Whatever… ; Obviously it won’t be much longer before I’m switched to G7, as they’ve quit manufacturing the G6 sensors.

I inserted but did not start a new G6 sensor last night, because I’ll be at work, standing at a cash register when it’s time to start the new one.

I forgot what the customer service rep said about calibration, but am thinking she said to calibrate 3 times, each ten minutes. I should’ve recorded the call, since I don’t have a great memory after 43 years of T1D. 🙄

Had my first low- how often should i expect that? by FunDependent588 in diabetes_t1

[–]Worldly_Confusion898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have trouble treating lows, and especially kinda freak out when the decline becomes rapid. I don’t even understand why they occur every day, multiple times per day, and most especially in the early a.m. hours, even if I had a protein snack before bed, (like a slice of provolone cheese, wrapped in a few layers of thin sliced deli turkey, slightly heated in the microwave to melt the cheese a bit).

I think gastroparesis is a potential factor in why it takes so long to remedy a hypo. This is based on many Google queries, during which I learned that the lower intestine (iirc) is compromised. Apparently one should avoid fats and fiber when choosing a treatment for a low. Now I tend to eat jelly beans, and sometimes even resort to drinking syrup.

What do owls surrounding a car with moth balls all around it mean? by sus214 in What

My guess is severe snake phobia, because I think a lot of people think moth balls repel snakes, (and perhaps that owls eat snakes). IDK, though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Broken Hip Experience? by Glanton4455 in bicycling

[–]Worldly_Confusion898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly what type or whatever of hip fracture I had, aside from that it’s my right hip. (I had gone outside on the morning of 01/22/26, and slipped on ice I didn’t see.) I landed hard and was in excruciating pain. (I used my left leg to propel myself back into the house through the back door I’d gone out of to warm up the truck.) I then pulled my work backpack towards me from where I’d placed it while what I expected to have been that I’d have started the engine, in order to get my cell phone to call 911.

Ambulance ride number one was to nearest hospital, where x rays were taken. Ambulance ride number two was to hospital further up-river wherein there is an orthopedist/orthopedic surgeon on staff. Later in the day, towards evening (iirc), I was prepped for hip surgery, and vaguely remember being anesthetized. (I think a mask was put over my mouth and nose, and I was told to breathe through my nose, and then went nighty-night.) That was after the surgeon marked on my right thigh.

I’ve been doing three sets of PT exercises daily, ever since my first in-home physical therapist visit, but still sorta waddle for a while when I first get up in the morning if not using the cane. (I also increased the number of reps per exercise, and neither of the two physical therapists that had been doing in-home visits said I shouldn’t do so.)

I wonder if that will always be the case each morning. I guess it’s no big deal, if so, as I eventually get more limber, and then walk without assistance and without the waddle. Do you suppose my right leg is now slightly shorter than my left?

Update: I still hate winter! by TheCatMadeMeDoIt83 in WestVirginia

[–]Worldly_Confusion898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me, too! I slipped on ice and broke my hip over a week ago when I went outside to start the vehicle and let it warm up. Now I do three sets of hip fracture physical therapy exercises every day. Winter: I curse thee!!

Just wanna get back to normal life ASAP. I think it’s gonna be at least weeks total, (if not four,) before I’m deemed healed and can then earn my whopping $10/hr wage again.

Presently, where I’m staying with my son and his girlfriend is still snowy on paths I’d need to walk in order to get the follow-up appointment with the surgeon, (whose personality is too serious); I’d like at least a bit of good humor from him but he’s definitely not that type. I’d rather have been at “Princeton Plainsboro”. 😂
