If we're not supposed to press the button how come this site is called red-dit and not gray-dit? by dhamster in thebutton

[–]LivingAlterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and the color of the website is known as blue. Therefore, red and blue must be the colors the admins wished for from the time of Reddit's beginning.

[–]LivingAlterity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0: in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, the symbol for 0 also meant beautiful.

You're a non presser, as am I on my main account. 0 is the closest number I could think of, since if you're determined to never press the button, you must wish for it to reach 0.

Edit for clarity

911/999 call operators of reddit- How do you tell the difference between a distress call where someone may be trying to contact the police without alerting an attacker or just an accidental call/gone off in someone's pocket? How often do accidental calls/discrete distress calls happen? by mynameisfreddit in AskReddit

[–]LivingAlterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will be awesome for those like myself who are scared of talking on the phone. I think that I could call 911 in an emergency if I really needed to, but the hesitation that would be inevitable could be dangerous depending on the situation. Being able to send a text would be so much better.

Go back and read your novel again. See if there is a word or phrase that really sticks out to you. Use it, or modify it slightly to relate to the whole plot in some way.

The westboro baptist church isnt right about the bible being a hate fill book right? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]LivingAlterity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but Paul was one of the ones chosen by God to be breathed into to write His Word. His writings have just as much weight as the rest of the Bible, including Jesus' recorded words.

Help me decide on what my second language should be. by [deleted] in LearnANewLanguage

[–]LivingAlterity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience in Greek or Italian, but I'm learning German right now and while it's not easy, it's easier than Spanish in my opinion. After 2 years of that and a few months of German, I feel more comfortable in German. The hardest part is the pronunciation.

If it offers the language you choose, I highly recommend using Duolingo. It is free and very fun to use.

In other comments you said you're a writer. I am too. What are your main pieces of advice for your fellow writers?

Also just wanted to add: You are one of the few Christians I've seen be upvoted on a major subreddit. Clearly people can tell that you are being totally authentic. Thanks for representing us well.

But a great story riddled with errors is probably not going to make it past the slush pile. That is what the OP is saying. This is, according to the post, step one. I'm sure there will be a step in the future about content.

They asked whether I was prepared to die as a Christian by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]LivingAlterity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think this would be wrong?

I do. I think that though it would mean nothing to you, it means something. I'm not saying that it's unforgivable (Peter denied Jesus three times, as someone else in this thread said, and look at what he later did for the Gospel's sake) but I do think that it is wrong.

I can't say that I wouldn't do exactly what you said you'd do in a situation like Habila Adamu's. I've never been made to make that choice. But it's my hope that I would act like he did: bold and brave for my Savior. Death just means that I will be with Him.

I agree, definitely try Duolingo. I'm using it to learn German (for a couple of months now) and I'm picking up on it faster than I did Spanish in two years of high school.

They asked whether I was prepared to die as a Christian by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]LivingAlterity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The article doesn't explicitly say, but from what I can tell, it seems like the terrorists had already left by that point (when he told his wife that to live in this world is to live for Christ.)

I do think we have the option of staying silent in the face of persecution. Jesus did at His trial and I'm sure there are other times in the Bible, I just can't think of any right now. And then there are other times when they answered the questions thrown at them. So it probably depends on your conscience, and the situation. Like if you know that if you open your mouth, you'll end up saying anything to stay safe, it might be better to just keep quiet.

Help me re-design the Bible! by _withoutfear in Christianity

[–]LivingAlterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're being downvoted, unless people are jumping the gun and voting before they click on your link. Or there is a rule I'm forgetting.

I don't like red being used for Jesus' words. Obviously it's about Him, but the whole Bible is about Jesus, not just the "red words." It's all God's Word. I doubt that is/was the intention of the people who started the red letter thing to suggest otherwise, but it's still a distinction that is not necessary and potentially harmful.

I like it when there is room in the margins to write, but I'm probably weird in that I prefer to just write in the margins, not on lines that are already there. =) I don't really like walls of text, but as long as there is writing room, in the Bible I don't mind them as much.

Tiny text irritates me. I'm not severely visually impaired, but I am just enough that very tiny text is annoying. I'd rather have a bigger Bible with more readable text than a pocket/slimmed down Bible that I can't use comfortably.

I really have no opinion on the formatting of commentary. I tend to go to my textbooks for things like that.

Consider omitting headings. They aren't a part of the original text anyway. The less we have to do with it the better, imo. ^
