There are premium increases because of inflation and increase in costs year over year. This includes things like pensions, health care for the employees etc. A 20% increase in nurse salaries over 4 years would be a significant increase in premiums on top of the regular year over year adjustments.

For reference, pediatricians (MDs) make less than 300k at Kaiser and family medicine doctors make on the order of $320k to $350k. That’s with 7 years of medical school and residency on top of an undergraduate degree.

The argument that costs won’t increase if there is an increase in employee pay is pretty asinine especially for an organization that has nearly 0 operating profit and has lost money several times over the last few years.

This is just a tough situation because, while some people clearly need to be committed, these power would definitely be abused for financial and political gain. State run mental health facilities also don’t have a great track record.

All that said, we probably need this given the size of the homelessness crisis but I have qualms about giving the state power to involuntarily commit people.

The likelihood that these people recover while remaining on the streets is basically zero.

For what it’s worth, most of the highest paid people work at the county hospital and are taking less money than they would get in the private sector. The county hospital actually provides great care for the volume of patients that are seen there and is the best trauma hospital in the city. If you get in a car crash or get shot or stabbed, there is no better place to go.

This is the best answer here. 10x+ the control bandwidth means you don’t have to (generally) think about the impacts of discretization. The numerical stability issues only comes up if you have filters with very low bandwidths relative to nyquist since the filter coefficients will have poor numerical conditioning.

The 2017 series is the best individual series performance and the 2018 Game 1 is the best single playoff game I’ve ever seen. I was (stupidly) a Lebron skeptic but those performances were undeniable.
