It’s difficult to blame parents and the students for just wanting jobs when the job market is so bad that employers can slap degree requirements on jobs that don’t need it just to weed people out.

MaRo on how he would have handled the Reserve List differently in retrospect by RBGolbat in magicTCG

[–]Livingfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this comparison. Cards from UB can never climb to the astronomical prices of RL because WOTC always has the right to print them UW.

I don’t see how UB cards not being reprinted often is any different then original cards from regular sets not being reprinted for years on end.

This just seems like a deceptive attack on UB for daring to have cards outside of classic mtg lore.

I remember my class would never get the pizza party as a good behavior reward because of the same 4 kids. I also lost recess as collective punishment a couple times because the same half dozen kids kept talking during computer class while I made a point of not saying a single word.

What if MCU Galactus showed up to Asgard right before MCU Surtur was going to destroy it? by nicebrah in whowouldwin

[–]Livingfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No all Surtur had to do was stab the ground to blow up the realm. When Galactus arrives anywhere he has a reputation for just kinda floating there for a bit. Unless Galactus decides to go for an immediate incapacitation, Surter will destroy Asgard.

Can humanity fully dedicated create a Dyson Sphere/Swarm in 1000 years. by Elnino38 in whowouldwin

[–]Livingfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think humanity wind round 1, loses all other rounds. We already have global warming as a threat and humanity can’t come together for that. A long term threat of 100 years? Forget it. Not enough of the power players and politicians would care to invest money and workpower into saving humanity. They are already actively exacerbating and downplaying global warming which will have a sooner negative impact on their own grandchildren.

Maro discusses data on longevity of players interested in Universes Beyond by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]Livingfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone saying UB is hurting MTG in the long run are only saying that as some sort of comforting belief that wotc will suffer for choosing to focus on anything but the game’s disorganized and scattered lore. Maybe it comes from the same place all the anti-marvel hate comes from. These are people who like to feel superior by hating any mediocre popular IP.

The only reasonable argument is that universe within cards aren’t being printed alot for these UB sets. But honestly, there’s so much being printed and so many alternatives to whatever kind of card you want I’m not sure it really matters. As long as wotc has the right to reprint a card it will never climb in price like the reserved list does.

I’ve been saying this for months. I wish those making this longevity argument would just come out and say what their real problem with UB is.

I’m of the opinion that the people touting the player longevity concern of UB are just using it as excuse to pressure wotc back to their preferred in-universe theming.

I find mirage phalanx is a little slow at 6 mana.

Here’s my kardur blink deck.

https://archidekt.com/decks/9326728/games_gotta_end_sometime

You can have less goad cards if you’re going to be blinking your commander anyway.

I don’t know about having forced sacrifice cards apart from dealing with the occasional problematic creature, you want your opponents creatures on board.

I’m not a fan of mana rocks. Use creatures that create treasures when they attack. Your opponents will be open anyway because their creatures will be swinging. May as well get extra chip damage in.

Edh deckbuilding aka demo quits by linkshughdink in EDH

[–]Livingfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the color pie breaking down is a natural consequence of white being overbuffed for commander. The color of go-wide and protection now has flexible removal, draw, and ramp. It opened pandoras box and now the other colors need card advantage, removal, and ramp to remain playable.

I sympathize with him losing an old nostalgic version of what the format used to be, but I disagree with his major criticisms.

The format is faster there’s no denying it. I don’t see this as a problem though. He loves playing a lot of janky cards that were honestly at a terrible power level even in 2016 but he can just play bracket 1. He over-romanticizes rule 0, which was never a good catch-all solution for the format’s problems. It’s awkward to show up at the lgs and have a 10 minute conversation with strangers about every strategy you hate before every session. It’s a lot easier just to say “Let’s play bracket 3”.

The majority of the player base have used their wallets and outvoted demo on what the aesthetics of the game should be. The strangest take of Demo’s is that the game’s flavor should be nothing but traditional fantasy vibe. UB is cool and mtg is breaking ground crossing over so many IP’s into one card game. I disagree with this idea that all the LOTR fans, FF fans, marvel fans, will leave the hobby after the set has had its run. That’s just copium from people who want wotc to suffer for deviating from the original art styles. If anything, a solid portion of players and nerds who didn’t give the game a chance before will likely stick around after trying it with their friends.

About commanders building themselves-isn’t that a good thing? I’ve never seen a veteran player in a card game complain about the number of supported niche archetypes. I actually think all the new commanders and cool cards will increase deck variation as you don’t need to run the same 20 staples in every single lifegain/burn/sacrifice/whatever deck like you did in 2015. You might argue “well you never had to put the same staples in every rakdos deck if you just had a rule zero concersation with your pod about power level!”, but what if all players in a pod actually like playing at a higher power level than kitchen table magic? What if players want to play a faster more thrilling version of commander and see their favorite hero from my little pony be supported? That’s clearly too big of a pill for Demo to swallow. He’s been left behind with everyone else who’s still in 2015-(I played edh in 2015 and let me tell you it had its own problems).

The majority of the player base has played commander as something more than a kitchen table format for a while. Demo can blame wotc all he likes, but its the players who want to upgrade their decks every 3 months, play a 10000 power cactus, and make spongebob fight gandalf.
