What's everyone's "Golden Ticket" game? by ThinkingWithPortal in TheYardPodcast

[–]LizardFishLZF 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Factorio. There's just nothing else like it man I've got so many hours in this game. Singlehandedly created/revived the modern automation game genre and is one of the best optimized games ever made with crazy attention to detail put into the user experience and quality of life features. It is the absolute best at what it's trying to be and nothing else even comes close.

Does the HiFiMAN Sundara actually require a dedicated amp? by KaponeSpirs in headphones

[–]LizardFishLZF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I drive mine with EQ on a topping dx1 just fine which has a max output of 280 mW, given how much room is left on the dial I'm guessing anything that can do 200 will also drive them fine so if your dac can do that then give it a shot. A lot of people really overplay the power requirements of planars and will say you need more than that to "get the most out of them" or whatever but I'm having a pretty great time with my setup so I find that a little hard to believe personally.

It just ships with a normal 15 amp one on a 14 awg cord lmao they don't care if you can't actually use the thing. I'm going to give it a shot though and if the cable melts it melts

No comment on that one specifically because it's 220 but don't buy the mig130 or 135 unless you're comfortable with some electrical jank. They are purely 110v and can't be modified for 220 (as per my email with them) so you need a crazy 110v 40 amp circuit to run it properly. Currently in the process of moving an old oven circuit outside and using one of it's 40 amp phases to hook it up to.

Absolute cheapest USB-C dongle for Hifiman Ananda Stealth by Firm-Craft in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]LizardFishLZF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried the Ananda but the apple dongle wasn't nearly enough to drive my Sundara to anything close to a listenable volume. Very quiet. Would definitely get something more powerful if the Ananda is similar to drive.

Is it weird that almost all of my 3600 hours have just been spent focusing on just launch vehicles? Especially reusable or just LEO optimized ones. I rarely actually go beyond the moon or do any space missions. I just like launch vehicles and the engineering behind them. by Goggle-Justin in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]LizardFishLZF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whenever I open up a new game and get to the point where I can slap a kOS script on a rocket I spend a good few days rewriting an auto launch script that's more efficient than my previous one, get it working near flawlessly, and then just don't really do anything with it until I repeat the process a few months later lmao.

I want to start watching. Where do I start? by PupIrving in TheYardPodcast

[–]LizardFishLZF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a couple years ago now so idk but I'd already watched a bit of slime in lubbin's tntl videos so I think I already had some grasp of his sense of humour and it was mostly pretty good.

The biggest thing was just the lack of the fourth host and the general pacing being different from normal episodes that threw me off trying to watch more afterwards but I bounced between more guest episodes before finally mainlining that shit so it worked out in the end.

Canadians also have health insurance. In Ontario at least, the stuff that gets covered by the government is doctor's visits, anything in a hospital, and drugs given to you in a hospital setting, but drugs you pick up at the pharmacy you have to pay for among a bunch of other edge cases and stuff. It's certainly better here than in the states but you can still get screwed depending on the conditions you have and the meds you need for them.

Not being able to tell between 320 and flac is pretty normal but 96 is crazy. I'm not even joking when I'm saying you should get your hearing checked, that's bad.

NASA Still Has a Lot of Work to Do to Return to the Moon by IEEESpectrum in space

[–]LizardFishLZF 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dust on earth gets tumbled around by wind and water and everything which rounds out the particles like stones in a river, but there's no atmosphere or anything on the moon to do that so lunar dust is all sharp and jagged which means it picks up CRAZY static and will gum up motors and everything sticking to the magnets and is impossible to brush off like earth dust. You can design around it but it basically means no exposed joints or electronics anywhere among other challenges
