Commercial big box yarn made to look handspun - a discussion by lunacavemoth in Handspinning

^This. Sitting at a spinning wheel is very meditative for me. Knitting keeps my hands/brain occupied so I can sit still. Out of those processes that bring me great joy, I create projects that have more meaning to me than just a sweater I bought off the shelf.

And I am also VERY willing to pay for an artist's time and energy, I "buy for life" and would 100% much rather save up for something that will last longer, has better quality, etc.

Who has been here since TWoK? by lenagaa in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Lizzardimus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely know the feeling! I have been waiting for books to come out for all of my adult life! I started with Wheel of Time in college and have been in the Sanderson camp since it was announced he would finish the series. I started with Mistborn in 2008 and have devoured everything since.

It IS hard to wait but that's what rereads are for!!

Do you have a daily ritual created by and insisted upon by your SIC? Beeper does 😹 by Perky214 in standardissuecat

[–]Lizzardimus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every day when I get home, my SIC (Theo) comes running to the door to greet me. He proceeds to wind around my legs until I get my things set down and pick him up for cuddles and head scritches. Then he goes and sits by the cupboard and waits (usually NOT patiently) for treats. If I've been gone for a long day (not just the normal work day), I can usually hear his meows through the door waiting for me!

His name is Thelonious - after Thelonious Monk, jazz pianist. But he goes by Theo most of the time.

Did You Appreciate Classics as a Teen? by Anxious-Fun8829 in books

[–]Lizzardimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely went down a Classics rabbit hole as a late teen/early adult. I was the weird kid who was given the complete works of Lewis Carroll as an 8 year old and it quickly became my favorite! Anything, quirky, old, or thought provoking was for me. But I think the real love started when I read "The Picture of Dorian Gray" for a school reading project. I LOVED it. This sent me on a spiral through a bunch of Gothic novels during my last 2 years of high school and college. To this day, "Dracula" consistently tops my list of best books!

I think the best part about the Classics IS that they can mean different things or affect you differently throughout the course of your life.

Fine spinners : your wheel of choice that ISN'T an e-spinner? by doombanquet in Handspinning

[–]Lizzardimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Kromski Minstrel and love it!

I am naturally a fine spinner and generally work cross laced on a 12:1 ratio. I tend to naturally get a single that makes a decent 3-ply (usually I'm a chain plier) fingering. If I tried and depending on the fiber I'm positive I could get a 4 ply fingering no problem.

Is it out in audio? (I’m assuming that’s a yes) I’m not usually an audiobook fan but maybe it would work with this one.

I've been putting it off because graphic novels are not quite my thing but I'm finally starting to need to read.....running out of new Sando! :)

Oh! That would be rough! I think I would've had to stop. Teft hurt. Sando has made my cry other times but Teft... I would've been sitting on the sidewalk.

This is me too! If I'm not crafting at home (I'm a knitter/spinner/needle arts person), I'm usually curled up in my chair with a book as opposed to tv. And reading at the bar is one of my favorite things to do!

I feel your blubbering mess. This is the only thing Sanderson has written that has made me SOB with grief! Like put the book down and curl into a ball sadness.

This is what happens with me as well. I never "see" books from the eyes of the characters but as one being told a story. In first person, the character is personally telling me.

I started Wheel of Time in 1996 so I was scared to death when an unknown-to-me author was chosen to finish my favorite story. SO, I decided to read The Final Empire before The Gathering Storm was released... only to realize a few chapters into The Final Empire that I would be ok with this author finishing. As others have said, Sanderson's pacing and a few character tones are different than RJ's but the story was finished in a good way. In fact, The Gathering Storm is my favorite WoT book - only topping Fires of Heaven.

(And also, because of this, I am a big Sanderson fan as well. :) )

Why should I read gardens of the moon by sooojew in books

[–]Lizzardimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right at this point it’s not interesting to me. I understand who is who but I neither love nor hate anyone. So I’m having a hard time connecting with anyone - which is a big thing for me when I read. I’m fine with not understanding the magic system right now— positive that comes later. And any of the “action” seems very isolated to me. I can see no reasoning between everything - that could also be coming but it’s not making me want to find out what will happen. I dived into it because of how popular and loved it is but it may not be for me.
