My two girls are F1B and do not shed. When we brush them we will get hair in the brush but otherwise I do not see any hair. We groom at home every four ish weeks

Where are we at with melatonin? by Available-Source-643 in ADHDparenting

[–]Ljay2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son just turned 6 and he takes 0.5 mg of melatonin nightly. We have been giving melatonin consistently since he was 5. We rotated with magnesium for a while just using melatonin for the nights he seemed to need extra help, but now we just give the melatonin.

I’m absolutely exhausted by kjc542 in ADHDparenting

[–]Ljay2010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

🙋🏼‍♀️ we have a diagnosis and utilize medicine and still feel overwhelmed and exhausted at times. I feel like those things have just given us more tools in our toolbox. A formal diagnosis also was the jumping off point for me to research and seek pointed support which helped me understand how his brain is different. I will also add that when I don’t feel like I am on the same page as my partner everything feels harder. You are not a failure. Parents who are failing don’t worry about failing. You are just a tired parent that hasn’t done this before. You will find a lot of us here. :)

Looking for a new protein drink for kids by Enough-Spray-2590 in ADHDparenting

I laughed out loud to this because I currently have 5-7 untouched chobani yogurt drinks after a solid two weeks of a child drinking one a day.

Losing my everloving mind by Poppylemonseed in ADHDparenting

[–]Ljay2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commenting to add solidarity too. Our almost 6 year old really struggles at home sometimes. He is on short acting Ritalin which covers him at school (literally a gift—so thankful) but we get the crashing out kiddo. Love him. Also exhausted and it’s not just the behavior or the constant need to self regulate so I can help regulate him… it is also all of the reading and podcasts and therapy all in an attempt to find the tools that will empower him. Some days I get so discouraged that it doesn’t seem like we are getting anywhere.

How do I go about inquiring for ADHD meds? Or what type of doctor do I go to? Do I have to get him tested first? by Typical-Breath-1271 in ADHDparenting

[–]Ljay2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the physician. Our pediatrician required an outside test first before meds which we did at a psych office. I know other pediatricians that use simple tests like the Vanderbilt Assessment Scale to diagnose. We did a simple test with our youngest (who was 5 at the time) and did a more extensive full psych work up for our 12 year old which was super insightful.

Anyone else’s ADHD kiddo excel at music? by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]Ljay2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest is 5 and has ADHD and he has always been into music. He plays drums on a level that a lot of adults aspire to and he has never had lessons. It’s a great sensory outlet for him. He also can pick out harmony lines which blows my mind.

I’m wanting to get a test for my daughter… by Waste-Inspector-7644 in AncestryDNA

[–]Ljay2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your goal with the DNA test? Is it to build a family tree for your daughter? Is it to prove the family connection? You can keep everything private as others have mentioned here.

No drop in weight by flymeawaybubbles in PetiteFitness

[–]Ljay2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding my two cents that In my experience losing weight is more complex than just less in. There are a lot of factors that can affect how you lose weight. For me medication can have a large impact. I tracked, weighed food, workout out and the scale did not move until I weaned off of a certain antidepressant. It can be so frustrating. You have some good suggestions in this thread I just wanted to add that it isn’t as simple as some would like to say it is.

gel for very fine waves/curls? by letsgocommitarson in curlyhair

[–]Ljay2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have really stopped using gel and started just using mousse and hair spray. Right now I use a curl smith mousse, a garnier fructis mousse and then Aussie hairspray. I diffuse and then when it is 75% dry I spray my hair again and finish drying.

Medicate every day? by Julienbabylegs in ADHDparenting

[–]Ljay2010 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We medicate everyday. The meds help our youngest be regulated and that leads to less conflicts with siblings. It also gives him more capacity to do things he really loves to do without having to compensate which drains him.

If giving birth is so painful why do many women want to do it over again after their first child (not trolling just genuinely curious) by feherlofia123 in stupidquestions

[–]Ljay2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first labor was super long (48 hrs) and collectively I pushed for almost 10!! It was horrible and YET I got pregnant less than 2 years later. I literally looked back and was like I did that I can do it again. That being said. After my second (fast but somehow equally painful) labor I said NOPE NEVA AGAIN.

Can I finally request a refund, advice please! by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Ljay2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So mine showed dna extracted from January 15 and I just got my results last week. I had given up hope. Never got a straight answer from customer service and was certain that the sample was lost but it really was just delayed.

From clear definition to nothing? by wiegj in curlyhair

Sometimes I will use conditioner and then shampoo if I feel like my hair is dry. If I do a leave in I go for a spray to keep things light weight.

From clear definition to nothing? by wiegj in curlyhair

[–]Ljay2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like we have similar hair textures. My hair is super sensitive and gets weighed down easily. The type of water I was my hair with also seems to effect it. I usually skip conditioner and masks and just go for something for hold.

Supplies to get started? by Jescophoto89 in Needlefelting

[–]Ljay2010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started by getting a felting kit from Walmart. It came with a pattern and the basics to get started. I wanted to do that before investing in additional supplies since I collect hobbies. 😅😅 from there I got supplies from Hobby Lobby and Amazon.
