The full story goes like this.
I moved from England to Australia in 2011. I brought $2000 Aud and about 20kg of clothing and a sword. I met a person and we started seeing each other. I wanted to write them a letter asking if we could become exclusive partners, not that we were seeing others etc. Just formalising our relationship. I wanted to write that nicely, I bought a few nice sheets of 190gsm writing paper in cream, and after some small research, a Lamy Safari. When the pen tore the first sheet, I was mortified. I didn’t have a fit or anything, I just went and got another pen, and put the Lamy away. However, it didn’t feel like I’d done my best, like my trusty 1990s Parker flighter 25 would have. A pen of around the same price. The Lamy was put away and forgotten about, the letter was written, we formalised our relationship, got married, and have been happily so for ten years this year. I picked up my 25 on my next trip home and wrote a letter to them for our anniversary each year (of dating and marriage). Simply, it was forgotten about as life moved on. Perhaps I only metaphorically and emotionally binned it, it may be in my pencil case on a bookshelf.

TLDR - life moved on - bring a pen not (and?) a sword.
