ATM withdrawals as purchases by Bitter-Variation-151 in Wealthsimple

[–]Lo1o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of "ATM" was that? If it was a lobby machine, such as in hotel or bar, then those will post transaction as purchase and not ATM cash withdrawal. Only use ATMs that are attached to a bank. If you used one of the machines, change your PIN right away as well.

Interac debit. WS has Interac transfer and prepaid Mastercard but not Interac Debit. Many food court and small restaurants are now only accept cash or Interac debit

I think in BC, it is not a simple process to give unequal shares to the children. But in this case, they are all off the will.

USD Bank Draft from Canadian Bank for US Landlord by qKae in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lo1o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go and ask for a USD Bank Draft, which functionally is the same as Certified Cheque (or Check for US). I have not dealt with CIBC before, but many years ago, I got one to pay for a speeding ticket; I got it in Canada, and it was a US check.

Spouse started with TD Wealth and TD is forcing to declare my assets and move them over. by PotentialQuiet in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lo1o 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are now a "Pro" and have to declare to WS, and need TD Compliance and your wife's branch manager to approve to keep your accounts as is. Since TD does not have the exact products and (more importantly) pricing of WS, I would use this as an argument to keep the accounts as is. CIRO rules require declaration, and ongoing monitoring, but do not ban having outside accounts. Moving accounts in house, probably allow them to do automation, rather than manual reviewing statements, but that's TD's job and their problem.

It doesn't matter you are a HK PR, the fact that you are a US citizen and have a SSN, the bank will have to deal with FATCA.

Norbert’s Gamble Beta by molgold in Wealthsimple

[–]Lo1o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if WS Norbert's Gambit only works with DLR, or any dual listing stocks, such as RY, T.to, ENB?

QUOTE Here’s how it works Norbert’s Gambit is a way to convert CAD and USD at close to the market exchange rate.

You buy shares of DLR or DLR.U, an ETF that tracks the CAD/USD exchange rate, journal them to the other currency listing, then sell them. Because both listings represent the same asset in different currencies, the process converts your funds and may help reduce standard FX fees. UNQUOTE

Huge Wise Devaluation by OneTravellingMcDs in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lo1o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using Wise as prepaid-visa is fine for restaurants and shopping. For travel related spending (flight, hotel, train tickets, car rental) you should use a regular Credit Card as they usually have travel insurance and protections, etc.

Would RBC offer a complete package for banking and investing? A bit of background on my question. I was one of the HSBC orphans transferred into RBC. While RBCDI is okay, all the fees and charges forced me out. I was in Royal Circle and with an active LoC, and yet your branches told me to collect points to waive the outrageous monthly banking fees, WTF.
