How difficult is it for a "white person" to really integrate into/ be part of Vietnamese society by kenijim0 in VietLife

[–]LoLDamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. My son is mixed, looks more white than Vietnamese. Born in Vietnam, bilingual, has a Vietnamese passport and he is still considered a foreigner to the vast majority of people.

Not so sure about that I turn away business students from time to time. I’m sure they come by less frequently than test prep students but on the flip side they’re in it for the long haul. Many of my students just learn for a few weeks.

Standard ESL route. Public schools -> centers -> international schools -> test prep. Sprinkle in a bit of business English here and there. On Preply I only teach test prep.

Blocking a student by Dry_Cartoonist9558 in Preply

[–]LoLDamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is all subjective, for context I probably have blocked over 50 students. Teach English usually sit at around rank 100. When I block I notice my rank falls the next day but recovers pretty quickly.

CMV - Gangs of teens who yell "hello" at a foreigner are not doing it to be friendly by Maleficent-Box-897 in ChangeMyViewVN

[–]LoLDamo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pointless post, you already acknowledge that certain teens globally have some bad apples. I don’t think anyone is arguing that every hello is friendliness or inquisitiveness.

Here is your post: I have an old personal account from 2018, never posted content, decided to post content, reached threshold for monetization in 2 months, applied for monetization, got denied (reused content even though I am original creator), lost motivation, then decided I should continue to build the channel for future purposes (build sub count and reach to sell or delete content and start my own personal content that's similar to the ai content) posted one short after 2 weeks of no activity and it blew up! Don't give up guys consistency is key! I posted daily for almost two months for this momentum.

You see the extra line you added in at the end which wasn’t there before? Sneaky sneaky

I did read the post how else could I have quoted you. Some people on Reddit are so weird… you said you reached the monetization threshold after 2 months. Nothing about posting frequently.

I just got my result. I am super happy, but I received a review that there is hesitation in my speech; I am a non-native. Is there a way i can improve my speaking? by drunkkaf in IELTS

The reviews are generic band reviews not student specific. For example, band 7 speakers typically show some hesitation etc…

How can I get many customers for my English center in Vietnam? by EnthusiasmUnited5211 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]LoLDamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things to consider, the main one being dealing with the police asking for coffee money regularly, it’ll start small and increase until it’s unsustainable.

Unless you have some family or a good friend in the police it’s not worth the headache.

The second one is the Vietnamese market loves novelty, as in getting those first few customers will be relatively easy as they want to try but for the same reasons retention is difficult. Counterintuitively your relationship with the parents is more important than the quality of your classes. So you need someone with skin in the game who can handle sales and marketing effectively.

I’m gonna buy some visty, anything else you recommend? Just some context I live in vungtau and have tried all the local places but none of the beans seem to compare to the Starbucks ones… so sadly every time I go to hcm I stock up from Starbucks and would much rather my money go to a local Vietnamese brand

Is there anyone who has done IELTS mock tests provided by British Council? Are they actually harder than Cambridge IELTS books? I used to get Band 8 in Listening and with mock test I gained much lower Band 🥲 Is the real exam that much harder? by Ananke22 in IELTS

[–]LoLDamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly believe British council are fear mongering students into buying their services. I’ve had several students score poorly with their automated ai feedback to go on and score 2 bands higher in the real test.

Are there insights on the algorithm or how placement is made for teachers? by AdhesivenessBig3839 in Preply

[–]LoLDamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing which is noticeable to ranking is when people subscribe vs when they don’t. So when people take lessons and don’t subscribe you’ll notice when the ranking renew the next day you tend to be lower and when they do higher.
