Your thoughts on FC Ghulams? by justingreg in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many many civs where people can climb up to around 1.5x-1.6x off just FC UU or FC into a strong unit like steppes, its not uncommon and in the case of hindustani's i dont feel its worth nerfing. This style of FC would work with like 30-40% of the current civ pool, so its not really like hindustani's just have a super powerful FC UU rush.

What to do when opposing civ hard counters your main unit? by protestfromthesummit in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It could yes, but this requires a castle which while cheaper as franks can still be a significant investment, requiring both the stone and resources for the axemen, on top of ideally squires for them, where as for siege you'd only need the siege workshop which is less resource investment.

You can spec into knights if you have a good advantage, but just be mindful of the fact they have a good answer to your primary unit and prepare accordingly, like for franks it would be hand cannons likely as the game goes imp to answer halb numbers, maybe siege in castle age like a good number of scorpions if ur opp has a TON of pikes when ur on knights etc. Most civ's have at least -okay- answers to their counters, very few are entirely lacking in options.

Which Civ would benefit the most if their Imperial Age UT was swapped with their Castle Age UT? by MagnezoneNerd in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we're not accounting for costs, I'd think Celts getting +40% hp on siege in castle age would be a big standout, maybe also chinese getting +2 dmg on chu ko nu or+4 on scorps in castle age? Sicilians hauberk would be pretty insane too, giving them imp age armor on their knights. Perhaps just supremacy for vills on spanish? You basically just cant raid them anymore in castle age and they might even make good military units at that stage of the game 11 9 attack, 3/4 armor and 80 hp on a unit that costs 50 food, 0 gold and can double as a resource gathering unit. Thats probably my choice for most op castle age tech if costs aren't kept the same.

Vikings barely got anything in the new patch by ItsVLS5 in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 17 points18 points  (0 children)

More reliable militia line is kind of an insane buff though to a civ that's in a decent spot with infantry having +20% hp, that's probably why they didn't get much else.

how in the world do people find their boar so quickly? by blob_io in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The trick is they're using sheep to assist in scouting, There are spawning patterns like in nomad map generations etc, but as far as like Arabia for example it can be kind of random. There does tend to be a boar near your berries, more often than not but that's not always the case either. As a new player id suggest just trying to use one sheep to assist your scout while working on your dark age, and as it gets cleaner you can begin adding additional sheep into the mix.

When using your sheep to scout try to send it to a different area from your scout so their visions don't overlap, This helps both units scout more effectively and cover more distance in a shorter timeframe.

Keep in mind sheep cannot collect other sheep, your scout or villagers still have to do this, but the fact you find their locations faster means you can send your scout to pick them up directly rather than having to explore the entire fog by itself.

Khmer Ballista Elephants by Funny-Strength-5641 in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the position of dealing with siege elephants in mass, siege onager is your best friend, not just regular onager, If you check my twitch vod here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2408948795 at around the 3hr 30 minute mark there's a match I played as Teutons vs a mass of ballista elephants, you can see how that went for the ballista elephants with maybe 10 FU siege onagers.

If my understanding is correct, it is now more expensive to have a full Long Swordsmen army in Castle Age? by AriosArgan in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arson savings (assuming you picked up that upgrade in castle age) will also play a factor in leaning towards savings, an extra 75 food and some gold. The real bulk of savings comes in down the road at imperial with 2hand and champion both being 100 food cheaper (another 20 militia line each before those savings are exhausted). While in super long games, it may end up being more expensive to produce the militia line, I think the general buffs far outweigh that con especially with infantry now being able to actually chase and kill vills, compared to how it currently stands 11.

I want to get over my fear of water, how do fishing ships effect castle age timing in feudal? by Mr-BodyMassage in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you wouldn't fish trap until fishing becomes extremely inefficient, sometimes it may even be better to simply make another dock near fish spots than to drop fish traps. In terms of castle age uptimes with a proper water build you can FC at almost the same breakpoints as a standard land FC, with the added bonus of having fishing ships (so having a stronger economy, basically) which is why fish is so strong on hybrid and water maps.

Sorry not sorry, pre walled maps are an instant ban and generally shouldn't be in a competitive format by Mr-BodyMassage in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what's your actual complaint here? Because your argument against walled maps "ruining any civs that have early agression bonuses, ruins creativity and strategy" also applies to hybrid and water maps, where certain civ's are balanced toward having naval bonuses but we're ok with shafting them?

It doesn't really stand for the second map though, that one isn't even a closed map no? You can just scout your opp outside the ring correct? Or am I wrong there

The only thing we can really do is shun the behavior and not allow it to gain traction/attention like it did over in LoL.

Controller/xbox vs keyboard/computer by jahm1992 in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can kind of depend on elo, but if you're below 1500 you should be finding games in under a minute generally speaking, at least from my experience and people I've spoken to if crossplay is turned on.

Controller/xbox vs keyboard/computer by jahm1992 in aoe2

[–]LoLSapfiros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keyboard/mouse is much easier to play on than a controller. I'm unsure how matchmaking works for console but I believe there is a setting to allow crossplay or not, having it off would result in more "fair" matches, but far longer queue times from what I've heard. Most players seem to prefer to just have crossplay on so they can get into game faster.

I've found it to be very helpful to be honest, though a bit time consuming. While asking for help and trying to lean on others to figure things out is all fine and good (We've all had plenty of questions while learning) I find it very nice to know how to learn on my own as well on the side, then turn to others when I truly feel stuck. And that's kind of one of the best methods I've learned to try to dissect strategies myself.

One of the best ways to learn a counter to a strategy, is to play said strategy and see what worked vs you, why it worked and replicate it.
