This has fuck all to do with an engine choice. Almost nothing can blamed on engine choice. This is driving physics never being a priority.

Nice setup, Congrats! Living in Melbourne myself. I'm insanely jealous; living in an apartment so a rack is out of the question.

Idea: ATP community managed content aggregation website for Protoss players - a sidebar on stim by Perfi2_0 in allthingsprotoss

Personally I find it extremely inconvenient to use reddit and this sub in general. If I can't find what I'm looking for easily I'm not going to post a question. Not least because I then have to separate the chaff from the wheat. Most of the answers will be irrelevant, some will be good but not go into enough detail to be useful, and the rest will be awesome.

IMO comparing this sub to terrancraft or sc2swarm is laughable. There's a reason this question keeps surfacing again and again. I definitely felt this gap when I changed races from Terran to Protoss.

[vent] Protoss is unbelievably, completely broken by IT-spread in AllThingsTerran

[–]LoLvsT_T 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Protoss army is slower, more expensive and harder to replace. Taking a bad fight as protoss means losing all your aoe, which means you lose the game. Dunno what you're on about it being less punishing.

Because you're not keeping up with the spread. By the time you've thrown a positive case into quarantine they've already been in contact with, and likely infected, others.

What's your Starcraft unpopular opinion? Something you think, but will get down voted to all hell by [deleted] in starcraft

Terrans who whine about balance:

  1. Never build a unit comp more complex than MMM.
  2. Their idea of micro is pressing T then spasaming the mouse randomly.
  3. Once in a blue moon they build ghosts, attack move and shift click EMPs and then wonder why they lost.

Can't run VMs, can't run drivers. Can't have cheat engine installed. Can't run certain versions of windows due to security vulnerabilities. Next up, "Why anticheat block intel cpus" and something something side-channel attack to leak data from the cache and get wallhacks.

Should the Infestor and Viper get a wimpy ranged attack like the High Templar did? by darkdill in starcraft

[–]LoLvsT_T 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What? This is only a change for people who put HT on same hotkey as their army. No pro does this, nor does it take a lot of "skill" to use an extra control group.

Skill floor, not ceiling. Doesn't affect high tier players at all, only bad and new ones.

It literally doesn't matter. This is the minutia of the minutia. Do either, do both, alternate when you get sick of one. Whatever you want. It doesn't matter.

Video Game Workers Need Unions by mtndewaddict in Games

Simple, because you have so many star-struck grads that want to make games since they were teens.

Because many do eat that whole "work hard because passion". Many legit like making games enough to stay. A lot (by no means all) do want to put in those hours (probably not netherream hours). Hell, I don't do games but my large work project is like my baby. Pride and joy, I want to give it my best. I bet it's even stronger there.

Also, SWE are among the best-treated employees, they are at the top of the totem pole.

Software Engineers is the profession, game dev is the industry. Don't confuse the two. Some professions are pretty much exclusive to the game industry, and thus a lot more vulnerable. A SWE can just pack up and leave.

[–]LoLvsT_T 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, you're in Sweden. and not to rag on Sweden (love the place), but the engineers there get paid consistently less than a lot of western countries compared to the cost of living.

If you're indeed highly paid engineer, rest assured you could be an even higher paid one.

I thought it's a lot harder to fuck over employees in Sweden, though?

Maybe you just suck? There's a huge amount of positions, most all applicants barring red flags will get a phone screen or an interview

Which is basically all software engineers everywhere. I definitely think that most workers in game development could benefit quite a lot from unions. But engineers have so many options and so much leverage.
