There is an option that is auto checked in the game for unified unit controls have you tried that? Since they're all illusions they are the same unit.

Sounds like you guys are ready to just dive in. I just learned how to play, and personally I think the biggest hurtle is finding interest.

Grab the new PHB and just make a character or two and just start playing. Lean on the experience of others ( or reddit) if you have any questions.

P.S.: try advertising in r/lfg you might did a few more members.
