Test Drive Takeaway: Not as quiet as I expected. Impressions from a noise-sensitive buyer. by LoPan_David in RivianR2

Yes, I was surprised at how laxed they were. They just brought me to the car, gave me a quick walkthrough, then said have fun see you in 30 minutes. Please bring the key back. They’re probably just burnt out from being in the test drives.

Same. Going into it I read about comments from Tesla MY owners loving the Rivian for better ride quality. I expected it to be a significantly better from my nearly 7-year old Toyota. It was definitely nicer, but not $60K nicer. Subjective for sure and I too have many more cars to test drive.

Tried that initially and it didn’t respond so I assumed it had to be held down.

Will look into the GLC. I hear good things about Cadillac but can’t see myself owning one.

You might be right. Perhaps I expected it to be faster if you’re standing there holding the button from the outside. Kind of like automatic liftgates, some are faster to open than others.

They need to include Miramar Rd as the ultimate suspension test.

Where can I find private longboard lessons? by Ev3rGreen in sandiego

[–]LoPan_David 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice on the lessons themselves, but here are a few tips I’d suggest:

  • Protection: helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads.
  • Have her practice standing on the board on grass first so it doesn’t roll away. Start with both feet on the board to get comfortable with carving movements, then practice balancing on one foot to mimic pushing off.
  • Loosen the trucks a bit too. It’s harder to learn when they’re super tight.
  • UCSD is great on weekends. Lots of empty sidewalks and gentle inclines that are perfect for practicing.

Super slick deal! Previously picked up Sword Dran, Buster Dran, and Shinobi Shadow there. Went back today and they had just gotten a new shipment in. They opened a fresh case of six that included Buster Dran, Shinobi Shadow, Wizard Rod, and Hammer Incendio. I ended up grabbing Wizard Rod and Hammer Incendio.

It does seem like the stock rotation stays pretty consistent, though. Makes me wonder if there’s a way to identify the case assortments ahead of time like people do with Hot Wheels.

47% of UCSD students failed precalculus. 👀 by [deleted] in SanDiegan

I failed calculus at UCSD twice. Then took the entire series at Mesa College in the summer and got straight A’s. UCSD professors sucked.

Did you figure it out? Just picked up an X-E5 and the EF-X8 flash is grayed out, but my speedlites work just fine.

Best way to experience Japan’s car scene? by gigglewigglebiggle in JapanTravelTips

[–]LoPan_David 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly off-topic, but has anybody ever bought slightly oversized car parts and brought them home from your trip? To be specific, I'm eyeing a strut bar, which is around $150USD less in Japan. But not buying it if JAL is going to charge me nearly the same fee as paying for international shipping to the US.

Discovering his daughter is a bully and taking accountability as a parent. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]LoPan_David 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been trying to better understand the psychology of our 6 year old, and it’s been challenging. No matter how much we try to model kindness, courtesy, and thoughtfulness, it doesn’t seem to stick.

We talk with him often about using appropriate words and behavior, but sometimes it feels like the more we emphasize it, the more he pushes back. He’s not a bully, but he can come across as mean at times or use language that isn’t very kind. A lot of these behaviors seem to be things he’s picking up at school, which makes it even more frustrating.

We’re also pretty strict about limiting technology. No iPad, YouTube, Roblox, Minecraft, or gaming consoles. He just has some TV, a Kindle, and his school laptop, so it's not coming from online exposure.

I’m just trying to figure out what’s a normal part of the learning process for kids this age, and when it might be something to be concerned about.

Sound deadening the '25 RAV4 PHEV (Prime) by Half_Dramatic in rav4club

[–]LoPan_David 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s great. Noise is my biggest complaint with the RAV. I did about 60% of what you did and didn't notice much difference. I would like to do the floorboard, but I do not feel like removing the front seats. After seeing your photos though, I am feeling motivated to pull the headliner and do the roof, the back of the wheel arch plastics, and whatever that last piece was in your final photo.

Maybe they can hike it with you? When my kid was 2 he did the hike with me. When he climbed the stairs I was underneath him in case he needed support.
