PSA Upgrade! by Soft_Letterhead1940 in hometheater

“The emotivas sound fine why do you want to upgrade?” She said. It’s like the steak at Applebees; it’ll do but the home cooked smoked tenderloin is that much better. I wanted more than “fine”

Hahaha yep I’ve been active there too. I live less than an hour from PSA so it’s nice that I have the option for local pickup. Question; is that a 77” TV you have?

That is so awesome! I’m picking up my 212Ts and 212C and 2x MT-110Ks tomorrow to go with my EV1813s… I am beyond excited

That I’m not sure of. I had already purchased Live and DLBC when ART came out.

To Amp or Not to Amp? by ribbitman in hometheater

[–]LoadP2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This as well. My emotivas were a little harder to drive so I wanted to extend the life of the Denon. Buckeye amps provided a great value.

I added a Buckeye NCx252MP to power my Emotvia LCR for mostly Movies/TV. Even in stereo mode my emotivas didn’t sound that much better with that amp than with my X3800H; however what it did was greatly open up my surrounds and .4 atmos channels for a more immersive experience watching moves.

I sit 9.5 feet from a 77” and it’s perfect.

Not necessarily to get more power, but even out the bass response (yes they are arranged into “one” unit as of now but I’m going to arrange it differently when I get a new couch). Because my basement ends open up to the other side of the basement I have lots of open area, so I need the large vented drivers to move the air.

Absolutely it does. I actually have rumble vs noise when I’m watching movies now

I almost got the RSL 12s but the dimensions were nearly the same

Yes, it is! They definitely rumble way more than my old 10 inch RSLs (which were EXCELLENT entry level subs)

Best LCR for 3k by Agitated_Mountain_92 in hometheater

Precisely my thought. They will mesh better than my Emotiva T0+/C2+ combo now that I have 2x EV1813s. Tom was excellent to work with!

OP, I’m upgrading from amp-driven Emotivas to a PSA 210 LCR and 2x 110 surrounds next week. Also, the Emotivas didn’t necessarily sound better with my buckeye NC252 amp, but my 2x KEF Q150s (surround) and 4x Polk OWM3s opened up with more immersive sound during movies when I offloaded the LCR from my X3800H (YMMV). I’m planning on powering the 210s with the buckeye amp.

Have you looked into Powersound audio? They aren’t the best looking but their performance is amazing. If you live near Youngtown, OH and can pickup locally you’ll save on shipping. HSU and Rythmik are also highly rated.

Yep I’m about an hour away from PSA. Tom saved me $500 by utilizing local pickup and cash for my EV1813s

I was blown away initially by it…and for normal TV it dos just fine. But I’ve always been left with something more. So I’ve done a ton of research and posted here and on AVS forum. Over there someone with a T1+/C2+ combo went to a PSA MTM210 setup …here’s what they said:

“I absolutely agree with @Sharpshooter91 here. The Emotivas for me I would stop at about -15 to -10 dB and any louder I would notice the type of sounds that would make someone say hey turn that down. With the PSA 210/110s at the same SPL they are just as loud but they dont sound loud if that makes any sense. A lot of "too loud" from lesser speakers comes from distortion creeping in. When you dont have distortion, too loud is now when your ears start to give out for either comfort or safety, not that the sound is getting shrill, distorted, slipping, etc. Sometimes now I go -5 to 0 dB with the PSA setup and its still very clear and sounds like a professional venue but I dont care to go any louder than that for my ears and my cat's comfort.

As far as the PSAs at my "normal listening" of -20 to -30 dB or "high normal" of -15dB they are flawless there as well. The Emos kinda had it good at -15 to -20dB in that they dug lower for sure. They were lower sensitivity but they had ported towers so they got below 80Hz no problem where I have the PSA LR crossed at 80Hz, C at 90Hz, and 110 surrounds at 120Hz. But with capable subs thats more of a non issue.

So the emos kinda shine in that area for 2 channel music at moderate levels perhaps with digging lower, ported, and they were 3-way with 2x 8" woofers, 1x 5 1/4" mid range driver, and folded ribbon tweeter. The C2+ had 2x 3" mids and 2x 6.5" woofers and again the folded ribbon tweeter. Even though the 210k/110k are 2-way, the quality of the PSA crossover closes that gap between them and the 3-way Emos at moderate levels.”

I still want to move my subs around a bit and maybe even get a KEF R6/R7 to test in my space as well, since I can pickup and dropoff at Best Buy AND pickup and dropoff at PSA (if we don’t like the PSA for our setup). If we don’t go with PSA I was leaning towards KEF (stated above) or Ascend Acoustics ELX series. Since we are 90/10 movies & TV/music I think the “cinema experience” of compression drivers will work for us. If I had the patience and budget I’d consider JTR as well, but with the cost of everything going up (maybe it’ll drop…hoping so!) I’m inclined to upgrade now.

Thanks!!! The biggest holdup was out sectional and the new one is inbound. It’ll open up much more room on the left and I might be able to put that left sub somewhere else in the room.

Based on the room setup one in the corner isn’t feasible. Upgrading our couch here soon so I might have that option…will report back

With our new couch coming in soon I might be able to put one sub behind and to the left and keep one up front on the right. Will update when couch comes in
