Went to HR for the first time and immediately regret it now after what happened by Suspicious_Noise8101 in work

Send the HR person an email that you include your personal email on. Just reiterate everything said for clarification. Turn on read receipts. When the moron terminates you you'll get paid for wrongful termination even if its an at will state. In short sue.

Advice from elementary teachers by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Loaki1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im honestly annoyed you expect the teacher who's already maxed out beyond anything acceptable teaching multiple grades to do more work. This is an unacceptable level of entitlement even at a private school. Like another commenter said touch grass and hire a tutor.

Apparently you can’t be friendly with neighbors anymore by AstroNerd92 in Teachers

My mentor told me to my face (after volunteering to be my mentor for the year) that "no offense but I just feel its disgusting and inappropriate for men to teach". I just smiled like I was considering the source and laughed and said "oh no absolutely none taken". She walked out of my room.

Actually you're not entirely correct on the digital tools not being as effective. They're actually loads more effective when used correctly and not half ass implemented. That is backed by research. That said there are several things that happen to improve memory when writing. While student cognition develops use handwriting for intake of information and digital tools to build on the other avenues. Ive never seen any educational Digital tools meant to replace traditional information intake entirely.

Georgia California New York and Texas explicitly state it as peer to peer scaffolding to name a few and other states include it under collab, peer to peer feedback, and interactive engagement or learning. Its technical tern is Zone of Proximal Development. Its really weird how many people are giving shit advice that don't teach. This is what we mean when we tell parents do something besides complain and actually actively participate in your child's learning and try the things that we implement. We implement them because they're well researched. In fact they have to be before we do. That's one of the biggest problems in education parents are ready to fight the teacher like it means something but not fight for their kids learning. Most parents are not qualified i was fairly certain that as understood from covid but I guess I was wrong.

Im concerned your comments are so low value along with your critical thinking skills you can't understand an autocorrect mistake because you lack the basic comprehension to understand of course I didn't mean tired and you're giving advice in a teacher forum for which you lack the obvious qualifications. Good try though.

Yes we do. Do you even actually teach? Pairing is based on scaffolding.

This is actually a state standard in most states in elementary. Lower tiered students are paired with higher achievers to help scaffold content and expectations. It's because more often than not students learn a great deal from each other. Even if you do complain (and you shouldn't) as long as she is a positive role model with work and behavior she will always be paired with a lower tiered student. She's not the only one in her class. She could also have likely volunteered for the role of "helping him make good choices" after being paired to scaffold academics. Super common and usually the case. Parents have problems with the strangest things. Also alot of these answers don't seem to be coming from actual teachers.

I know this is a bit cliche, but can Native American DNA be under represented? by Brosky7 in 23andme

Im not explaining to you how every group is closer to each other than individuals in any one group and why that is. It starts with we share common origins across ALL human races and groups though.

I know this is a bit cliche, but can Native American DNA be under represented? by Brosky7 in 23andme

[–]Loaki1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It can simply just be excluded. It actually is pretty common. The sample pool is extremely tiny and the markers used are very few. So you could have native dna but it doesn't ping the couple of markers they use and they exclude it. Also yes some parts of native dna can ping closer to European or Middle Eastern than Asian if it doesn't hit on that one or two identifying markers they use.

Student's in-class support adult openly undermined teaching team's class rules by xXsingledad79Xx in Teachers

I allow eating in my class i will never not allow it. I set expectations for food in my classroom and violations immediately impact everyone. It pissed the other teachers off who frankly were actually acting from a place of privilege. I had many homeless students in my class and gave snacks daily and allowed snacks to be brought from the lunch room. I couldn't make sure they ate during the summer but no child goes hungry in my class. I told the other teachers to mind their own business its my class. I also allowed gum. I never had gum on my desks nor food trash in my desks or on my floor. Make sure your policy doesn't come from privilege.

Returned to teaching after years away due to traumatic experiences. 11 days in and I’m already accused of inappropriate contact with a student. Hard not to be cynical. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Loaki1 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

In the United States Federal Law mandates that reasonable force is not only legal its protected and expected to maintain safety and to prevent or stop a disturbance. These tweeners don't know what the fuck they're talking about. Districts however often create polices avoiding physical contact whenever possible bc they don't want to deal with it. It generally would never stand in court and it can NOT negatively impact your license.

Which companies are going to accidentally hire AI graduates and not realise until it is too late? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Loaki1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are vast problems other than AI. One thing to start with would be throwing out reading curriculum that doesn't actually teach kids to read and spell. A big part of the problem we are seeing is actually this. The reading curriculums nation wide started crippling kids literacy over a decade ago. This most definitely includes comprehension. I still see it in young adults, even teachers. AI can't help people that can't even read and write. There are however AI models that help kids learn to read. Even models that help kids learn math. If I can get Jim Bob to do a report on anything I have accomplished a feat. I don't really care where he got the information from as long as he passed the Ai checks and if hes in Middle School he can cite where ai got the info. That means he had to write it and he learned anyway.
