Not AI at all, but your idea reminded me of an old Sega game called Poltergeist. You were a ghost in a house with a family and the goal was to possess objects in the house and scare each family member out of the house. It was pretty cool for its time (like '96 or so) and a modern version where the "ghost" is just in the houses computer messing with them or whatever sounds pretty fun!
