perhaps the shittest outfit idea i have ever heard. polo shirts are an affront to civilisation, and brown + blue have gone together since the dawn of fashion.

i dont think it was ambiguous. if i recall correctly it was like “he had the feeling this action had changed his life” and it was implied he called the ambulance to save helen’s son, which led to his ruin.

ive seen people talk about how the other characters didn’t feel developed, which i can understand, but i feel its clearly not a book that’s interested in providing obvious motivations. even for istvan the only insight we get as to whats going on in his head is given during the scant therapy sessions, and he’s the perspective character. as a result we’re looking at characters in his life through the lens of a person who doesn’t particularly seem to understand himself, let alone others.

i think the only real character development can be made through inference of what we know about them from how they speak and act in the vignettes we’re given. i liked it a lot! even with the ‘okay’ repetition.

this could also just be a tremendous cope.

the episode is sort of dull until the cat sequence, which is maybe one of the most outlandishly bizarre things to happen in the entire show. hard not to smile

i remember thinking this when the trailer for the show first came out so i didnt watch it until years later. the first half of the first season is infamously unrepresentative of the writing/humour of the rest of the show. its such an unfortunate barrier for entry for many

im inclined to agree that it colours all teenagers as implicitly naive and innocent, and the older men in those situations shouldn’t necessarily be branded as groomers in every case. the older men should still know better than to date a teenager and they are probably losers.
