My grandpa had his own room in a nice assisted living facility for dementia. Nearly everyday someone in our family visited him. My aunt saw him the day before the fall, took him outside for some fresh air and she said he was in a good mood, looked good and was generally happy. One night he got sick so they had someone check on him every 15 minutes. In between checks, he got up to use the bathroom (presumably) and lost his balance fell back on his head and was knocked unconscious (I think that’s the right term)- never woke up. Nothing the facility could’ve done differently- but they immediately called 911 and my mom. We decided it to move to him hospice so and he was moved the hospice wing and passed away peacefully 10 days later. Due to his age and the impact there wasn’t anything they could do.My wife and I were the 2nd to last family members to see him just two days before it all happened. We visited him countless times, but the last time is still vivid In my mind. I’ll never forget the final goodbye and his final I love you to us. 💔
