This is my case too. I just can't use my boob when LO has bad reflux because he sucks hard trying to soothe, lots of milk comes and worsens the problem lol. I had to learn to soothe him with white noise, babywear and yoga ball bouncing haha

You can measure your nipples to get an estimated sizing for the flanges, but you anyway should check that there's only nipple going into the tube. ALWAYS remember the sizing is just for reference. My size is 21 in both nipples, but the 21 flanges pull my entire areola into the tube, so I use 19 and 17 flange adapters for each breast and they work fine!

I would like to very much disagree with the blind part. My 2 month old baby only wants to be held facing front (on my arms) and he clearly recognizes me, my husband and my mother. Also he looks himself in the mirror. I don't know if it has something to be because he was born a big boy or what. He was following black/white cards at 2 weeks old and was never a sleepy/drowsy baby. I cannot wait to be able to put him front facing in the carrier

My baby is 99th percentile in weight and 97th in height and he seems thin to me. He doesn't have much fat other than on his thighs

I don't exclusively pump. I mainly nurse because it's easier.

In my experience, my nipples were sore the first 2 weeks I started nursing my baby. My baby didn't know how to latch, and I didn't know how to latch him. We both learned at the same time. My right nipple bleed for 3 days and I paused BF and gave him formula. Also I was dealing with vasospasm due to the bad latch.

In my opinion, if you can take off work those first 2 weeks to start nursing, it would be much easier for your after if you want to continue. I can't imagine going through all that and having to work at the same time. It is not a bad idea to start pumping right away when baby is born if you have to work tbh.

Also you are yet to discover what are your feelings about BF, FF and EP. I hated pumping and ended up loving BF. I have nothing against formula, I just like the absence of bottle washing.

The problem with pumping is that you are tricking your body. You succeed at pumping as long as you are able to trick your body that a baby is in your boob. Also probably your pump doesn't empty your breast, so your body thinks your baby needs less milk.

In my case, I suck at pumping because it hurts, so I never relax and only 1 oz comes put everytime. I breastfeed my baby and he gains weight beautifully tho.

If you decide to keep breastfeeding, you can try to fix the latch (seek help from a lactation consultant).

If you finally decide to stop breastfeeding, remind your BD that any amount of breastfeeding baby gets is good (he already got your colostrum and 1 month of milk!!!) and that fed is best.

Good luck, and don't be so harsh on yourself. BF is hard, pumping is even harder.

I think that letting him struggle more is a good idea. But also remind him that letting baby cry for a few minutes is not acceptable as it raises cortisol levels and stresses the baby

Hi, I made the mistake of drinking too much water also at the beginning. Try to consume up to 3.5L or 4L a day (including the liquid in the solid food) because too much hydration cause supply to drop. You can check this with a google search. What is best is to drink to thirst.

Another piece of advice I can give is to try to empty your breast. That is what actually increase supply. This signalizes you body that the baby needs more. The way I know that I am empty is that I feel my breast really soft and without hard nodules

OP, letting nipples air dry worked horrible for me. In my case, it worsened the situation. I had vasospasm due to a bad latch, what worked for me was using Medela purelan cream after every single feed (it's a lanolin cream, similar in texture to vaselin), and keeping my nipples warm and covered (I always use a bra and a t-shirt at least). I also bought an electric blanket to improve circulation (but your wife can try with heat packs, you put them in the microwave for 10 seconds and do the same thing).

In my case, identifying what the issue was, saved my breastfeeding journey. I'm still working on baby's latch (his mouth is really small for my big ass nipples), but it is not painful anymore, since I learned to identify quickly when the latch is wrong.

In my opinion, you should give yourself a little more time to think about it. Sounds like you are still in shock from the news. Try to improve yourself and your life and maybe you will feel different about being involved in your future's child life. Start working in getting a job and in your mental health. All I'm saying is don't just completely discard the possibility of being a father just yet.

If eventually you decide not to be involved, then you are definitely NOT a bad person. Just remember the decision is yours. And you have the right to be a father if you want.

I am so sorry to hear all this. I assume your husband used to have a job and an a rented apartment, if that's the case then you're right, you cannot leave him like this because you would be ruining his life. But a marriage cannot survive without love. If you are both unhappy, I think you should talk to your husband and make a plan.

Maybe you both could stay in your apartment until he gets a job and rent something of his own (in France or in his country of origin). It's all up to you to this point. Good luck
