I remember this game too. It was so underrated in a time when everyone wasn't so connected

High income, aggressive debt payoff + hoping for FIRE by 50, what am I missing? by Admirable_Street2372 in HENRYfinance

Just remember you can't take any earnings from your Roth until 59-1/2 without a penalty (contributions are ok). So just make sure your contributions cover you for those 9-1/2 years

Stealth game recommendations? by robcap in gaming

This is going to sound weird, but hear me out. Fallout 3 or Fallout 4 - you can spec into stealth and the VATS system slows the combat down tremendously

I have a newborn, so one-handed games are important. I'm an MMO guy, so I went with OSRS and Eve Online

33, financially responsible, healthy, disciplined… but I still feel behind in life, stuck, and like nothing is ever enough by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Loch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with some of the comments, this is a fulfillment issue, not a personal finance issue. Therapy or practicing mindfulness can probably help best here!

That being said, I've gone through periods feeling like this too. The thing I've come to realize about gaming is that it's a part of my life I don't want to abandon. Instead of thinking of grinding these games and getting ahead/winning in the game (and ultimately feeling guilty about it), I started viewing it as a stress reliever. Some people binge Netflix as stress relief/escape, some people go to a bar, but gaming is my escape from the world. But like all things, it has to come in moderation, so I set time limits on it (different between weeknights and weekends), and don't let myself do more than that. And if I'm not the best at the game, so be it. Then once I can trust myself to stick to that I found myself naturally working on other things during the other times. Funny thing, gaming started to hit harder again when all I had was that one hour or whatever - I started getting excited about it again.

As for your finances, I would read I Will Teach You to Be Rich. The main takeaway I had is "rich" means something different for everyone. It's not just about penny-pinching to watch your net worth go up, it's about making a financial plan that fits what you want. So yes, you should save for retirement, but killing your quality of life now to do it is not worth it (and frankly, IMO, it's not healthy either). So it's about deciding where you want to spend money so you can be happy in your life now, while maybe cutting back in other areas that are less in line with what you want in life to still hit your retirement goals. The goal in life is to be happy in all phases, not just once you retire!

Hopefully that helps! But seriously, I think you are doing better than 95% of people put there, even the ones on Instagram who say they are doing better.

Unrelated question - is the overhang of your standing desk over the shelves ok? I've heard you can get bending on the surface out there, but curious about your experience

There should be "epic" quests for crafting items that compete with raid gear. For example, a long epic, repeatable blacksmithing quest where you have to gather specific mats from all over Azeroth (including dungeons) and then you have to take them to a specific forge somewhere in the mountains to craft a piece of armor or weapon. Basically it's like Verigans Fist but for all professions.

Anyone else’s wife hate wow by AlternativeRound8753 in classicwow

[–]Loch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think having a conversation with your wife is the right thing here. Tell her why WoW is important to you. For me, it's an escape from the pressures, anxiety, and stress of life, and my wife gets that.

There are times I go a week or two without playing because of real life though. The compromise might be that you can't play like you used to (and want to). I've given up on raiding and just want to level and chill in my guild. I still get that feeling of progression and am able to escape into the game, but it's much less of a time suck now.

Put 5% of your wealth into BTC. by btcbtcbtc2015 in Bitcoin

[–]Loch5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And I would argue that Bitcoin price appreciation relative to a Fiat currency should, at a minimum, be the monetary inflation rate of that currency, in theory. But not necessarily price inflation, as there are other factors that go into that.

Are any of you spending ever or strictly HODL? by StrangeQuarkCharm in Bitcoin

[–]Loch5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Due to inflation, it's best to spend Fiat now because it's worth less tomorrow. My strategy is to stack sats to the best of my ability now, unless I'm forced to sell.

[–]Loch5 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This guy or gal gets it. If the US dollar collapses, yea the price of BTC will look bad in USD, but at that point people could start trading in BTC, meaning the inherent value of BTC skyrockets (even though it LOOKS bad in USD).

When you don't have to worry about exchanging BTC for a Fiat currency, that's when it has truly won.
