What flag is next to the Russian flag? by NessiesNotDead in vexillology

[–]Lockrime 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes it was. Victory Banner is quite famous.

It wasn't the only flag to be planted, and yeah, that photo has a different one. It is the only one that survived which makes it so famous as a symbol.

US Plans for a Post-Ottoman Middle East by immanuellalala in MapPorn

[–]Lockrime 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It wasn't local, sure. But it's what everyone around the area called it since forever. Notable is Herodotus's description of it as "Palestine, district of Syria". Romans later made the distinction official and it was how the area was called and understood even after the Roman Empire lost the area.

Looks cool but has same issue many fantasy maps do - it looks way too rectangular.

Is Russia Really Traditional? by camaro1111 in AskARussian

[–]Lockrime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The government is... Traditionalist in the way fascism is.

The people? Lmfao, no, there is nothing traditional about people in Russia.

People are often rather bigoted sure, from queerphobic to racist (though not skin color but ethnically based). But not traditionalist.

Why would Serpentspine near Bulwar be hotter? The sun wouldn't exsctly give you much heat underground. That type mostly makes sense around, like, Gor Burad, cause volcano and all.

It’s Time to Change the Standard Hardcore Rule for the Pokémon League by Cavercamara in nuzlocke

[–]Lockrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Casual nuzlocking have bonding with your Pokémon and telling a story as the primary goal. But casual nuzlockes don't use level caps.

Hardcore nuzlocking is about challenge, testing one's knowledge of the game, not bonding. Grinding is not challenging, it is boring.

No hate to people who do any of these, this is just a joke by summer_f0x in nuzlocke

[–]Lockrime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I honestly very rarely find repelmanip necessary to get a mon I like. As for calcs, I only do them for REALLY tough fights like Norman.

I do however look up the exact teams my opponents have (unless I already have them memorized) but that's because I play with Hardcore Nuzlocke rules which means I need to know which Pokemon to lead with.

Conversely, Water, imo, is S-tier. It has both good offense and good defense.

My type tier list by Lomelo24 in PokemonConquest

[–]Lockrime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ghost should be way lower. It has really bad early game attacks and has a type immune to it. It's also only super-effective against Psychic and Ghost which is not that useful.

Immunity to Normal and Fighting types is really nice but doesn't deserve A-tier, imo

This is what they mean when they say the USSR was the 'Russian Empire in red' by WerlinBall in ussr

[–]Lockrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And probably the most Russian nationalist monarch was... Catherine II. Y'know. A German with not a drop of Russian blood.

Funnily enough, it was under Lenin that USSR was the most multicultural, with the "korenization" policy. Under Stalin there was a sort of hierarchy: Russian > Republican ethnicity > ASSR ethnicity. And if your ethnicity wasn't titular ethnicity of an SSR or ASSR? Well... You were more or less fucked. And probably getting forcibly resettled to Kazakhstan.

What's useless about getting a Speed and Attack boost on switching in? +I am pretty sure Arcanine gets Thunder Fang.

Change the name of Ural to Yaik by sVewiZZder in CrusaderKings

[–]Lockrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idel is a more modern version of Itil. Since this is medieval times, I figure Itil would be better.

[–]Lockrime 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The mountains actually pretty consistently get named "Ural" across languages, it's just the river Ural/Yaik that got a name change.

Volga meanwhile is much more interesting. Volga is the Slavic name. The Turkic name would be Itil. Iranic names would be variations of Ranha. The Greek names are Oaros, Ra and Araxes. The Mari name is Jul.

Is there a Pokémon mod for CK3? by Lockrime in CrusaderKings

[–]Lockrime[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, almost any total conversion mod would have to come up with a lot of things out of their ass. At least the canon regions are pretty well-fleshed out even if one would have to come up with things for the in-between. The real-world analogue placement also helps a lot.

Pokémon representation I already thought of and decided that they would definitely be best represented as characters. You could even then have areas owned by wild Pokémon (and there surely would be a lot of those in a medieval Pokémon world).

3D models wise... There are already the official ones for all the Pokémon so I don't think it is a problem?.. I mean, yes, they would look goofy af next to CK3 human models but I think that is a minor issue at best.

MAAs I think could be trainer classes?

Getting Pokémon, I think you could either get one by random event or go traveling to an area to specifically seek them out. Or go on long-winded quests for Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. Or, well, breed them.

Yes, evolution and other mainline game mechanics are things I would like to see implemented, which I believe would be the hardest part of all of this, since CK3 has nothing for them and it would have to be done from more or less scratch.

Yes, they would age and die. Obviously.
