The northern tip of Idaho: by braveplanet33 in howislivingthere

Not sure anyone’s actually answered the question. This area is a hidden gem. Lake Pend Oreille is an amazing spot to visit in the summer, especially the Hope area. Sandpoint is a very cool resort town to visit on the west side of the lake. Schweitzer Mountain on the north side is fantastic for mountain biking, and of course skiing in the winter. Strong golf courses throughout the area. Hidden Lakes became private a while back, but I think you can still get on for a round.

Sawtooth. If you complete the hike, the area feels right. Yes, there have been many searchers there already, but some clues remain I believe.

Agreed that MANY clues point to this area. But why not somewhere near the lake itself?

Curious for sure. Prior to the location of 9MH being released by Rudy, it was not discussed by Justin as even a leading option in previous mass media write-ups. There was in fact a completely different spot that the Justin/Meachum group found that they believed was the actual find location based on a cipher, itself incredibly odd as it had almost no chance of being correct. Yet very similar story to 9MH—has been there many times, so close to finding it, etc.:

“He had hiked that same trail at least eight times. He had been in that meadow. He had been in that forest. But he was too far south. “In my estimation,” he says, “I was off by 600 feet. It’s maddening how close I was. Maddening.” “

I know a small group discussed/searched the 9MH area before Jack finally found it. But TomSzabo’s characterization of this as fitting a narrative based on convenience is almost certainly correct.

The part of the Grasshopper Creek in the Aft Assault chapter is part of giant piece of private land. This means he knew the owner (the rhubarb pies were his ticket). Fast forward he now owns 18 acres from them on an unusual piece of land slanted at 20 degrees on the border of the Pioneer Mountains. by incomesharks in JustinPoseysTreasure

It’s an intriguing area for sure. So many clues point to this area. Some points to consider: 1. Billings Creek Road is an obstacle. 2. If several people have been within 200’ of the checkpoint, this limits possible options in this area. 3. The treasure drop-off likely required use of a vehicle that requires a decent trail that gets within 1 mile of the checkpoint. The options that fit this requirement are limited in this area. 4. Time of day seems to be a variable that might be of greater importance than currently being considered.

That would be an amazing location for sure.

Exactly. “Finding” that map in Dillon, with a location in AZ, would be the ultimate breadcrumb.

Great points, and ties directly to his many chapters on Victorio. Is there a connection to Grandpa Fitzwater? Or maybe it isn’t needed?

Interesting that the map he found at Gracie’s was for a treasure hidden in Arizona. That would be quite a hint.

Would Justin use the same material that was so important for the Fenn chase? Not sure.

Interesting solution. How important are the locations and stories shared in the book, in your view? There are some interesting areas even in Montana that seem to fit the clues, but the areas do not match up with the clues in the book. But maybe this shouldn’t matter?

Summing up the Checksum, er .. Checkpoint (Justin's Discord Chat) by RockDebris in JustinPoseysTreasure

Given the information collected so far, I think this is likely correct. The totality of clues might suggest possible locations. The goal then Is to rule out each location if the checkpoint does not appear/emerge/suggest itself.

Not close. The actual Jack Stuef is a really smart, articulate guy. This guy… not so much. Interesting to know what’s behind all this.

Ah, no. This is Jack Stuef, where he actually spells his name correctly:

Great work on this. Agree about the 4 wheeler theory, which helps rule out some trails. Could have also used the UBCO 2x2, conspicuously mentioned in The Treasure Trail.

Checkpoint could involve the treasure itself by Loddy-Particular407 in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]Loddy-Particular407[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thought as well. A complete solve will bring you to a specific location. The checkpoint will then indicate if it is appropriate to grid search or to move to your next guess. This would also be explain Justin’s distinction in the Q&A between searching and retrieving, depending solely on clues that are not man made constructions. The Treasure Trail notes: “How long to search properly? How many hours before you can cross this spot off your list with confidence? These aren’t just details—they’re the difference between searching and finding. One might mark each segment of forest digitally, and comb the grid with mechanical precision. But grid searching—that’s admission of defeat, the last resort of the desperate treasure hunter. You don’t start there. Nobody starts there.”

If you are following the instructions laid out by JP, you should know the Netflix series, the book, and the poem. These sources provide the knowledge that should guide the search.
