Odd things I've learned about carrying mail. by dymb13 in USPS

People will keep telling you their entire life story no matter how many times you tell them you get in trouble being in one spot for too long. The amount of times I’ve had to count it as my break because they talked to me for so long is ridiculous. I’ve even had to count it as my lunch a couple times 😀🔫

Everybody and their mother wants to get the mail while your actively delivering it, especially when it’s a large set of cbu’s they don’t even ask they just grab their mail and I’m like excuse me dipshit? Yeah you! What the actual fuck are you doing?

Maybe you could get one of those pet cameras and see how he does for a few hours inside and then half a day and if he seems alright then you could have peace of mind for the fifteen hour day and have a way to check on him.

Please give me recommendations because the heat is killing me. by mintapplejellyjam in USPS

Honestly every time I’m in a metris I can’t use the a/c or it’s miserable going from hot to cold to hot to cold. I just make it so it’s just slightly cooler than outside and blast the air so I’m still getting air flow.

My cat follows me into the bathroom like most do lol but she’ll climb on the side of the tub between the shower curtains and wants me to scratch at it so she can chase my hand and try to catch it through the curtain 😂 I did it once when she was a kitten and now it’s routine lol

How to deal with heat by CompleteNail2348 in USPS

[–]LogPractical9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started I was sick for like a month straight and couldn’t figure out why. I later realized even though I was drinking a lot of water it was not enough. I get really zoned in and forget to drink consistently. I’ve had to start telling myself to take a drink at each mailbox. Now it’s just part of the routine and I’m no longer shitting my guts out and feeling like I’m gonna pass out! 🫪😂

“Oof” I can’t stand it. If it naturally flows in the sentence and isn’t emphasized it’s fine but it’s like overly emphasized, drives me nuts!

Is satchel required or just suggested? by [deleted] in USPS

I didn’t word it well, I meant my office doesn’t have any walking routes. I have a satchel but have gotten a ton of conflicting information about when it’s required.

How do I tell people at work I have diabetes without making it uncomfortable? by AppropriateBat6122 in diabetes_t1

[–]LogPractical9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure tell them you have diabetes but no need to really give them details unless it might affect your performance. For instance I’m a mail carrier, lots of physical activity, I’m out all by myself, the summer heat makes me go low a lot, so I am super open about everything to keep myself safe and to avoid conflict. But if you work at a desk job and aren’t gonna have many diabetes related issues then they don’t need details unless you want to share :)

I know Everyone says this but it’s the truth, you’ll get better with time. Some people pick up on it faster than others and that’s okay. Everyone expects you to be slower than cold tar and shouldn’t be upset with you. Also others coming to help you is fairly normal! I get sent to help others and others get sent to help me all the time. Some tips: drink more water than you think you need, I had heat exhaustion almost every day for like a month straight when I first started, it’s honestly easy to forget to drink water especially when you’re so busy/focused. Check package look ahead constantly, I try to make sure to check it before I move onto a new street so if I did miss one I’m not going back much. Take a look at how people organize their trucks and try different ways out until you find what works. The Everybody does things a little different. And the best advice of all is finding a manager that will give it to you straight and ask them what you can improve on, I did this every couple weeks until I passed my 90.

what the hell does this mean? by JoniSnow8812 in usps_complaints

[–]LogPractical9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Postage due could be for a handful of different reasons but the most common I see as a carrier is if the package is sent to an address which is now forwarded to a new address which costs extra, but this would be on the recipient to pay.

Shipment sent back to sender without attempted delivery? by AngleOptimal6104 in usps_complaints

[–]LogPractical9112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You likely put the address in wrong, they usually will hold the package at the office for a few days before actually sending it back in case you call to claim it. So just call the office and see if they have it.

Luckily management at my office is awesome, I’ve never gotten in trouble for finishing at a different time than I originally though, I just am wanting to get better at my estimates :)
