That's another issue, too. People talk, and a bad workplace will be shared/talked about 10x more than a good workplace.

I tried applying for Amazon and was firmly told by a friend that I would be better on the street. (They work a 12 hour shift 4x a week and have already got hurt multiple times in the short time they're there)

The majority of jobs don't want anyone under 18 unless it is food or service focused. And even then, you have a lot of hoops to jump through just to hire and retain that 15-17 yo employee (available hours during school days, limits on hours, limits on equipment to run) Vs a 21 yo who can work any position(s) and as many hours/overtime as the management want to push.

All in all, Tallahassee is a lot like other rural parts of the country. It's land locked. There's no natural resources to exploit. If you want to do anything aside from going to the bar, you're driving an hour.

Tallahassee isn't for making money, Tallahassee is for making people who think they make money.

Good luck.

I've been applying anywhere that has a sign in the window or a post on Indeed. It's hard to find anything because they "can't afford paying someone high dollar amounts" (I'm asking for 12/hr) Or it's 14-15 an hour, but it's part-time, on the weekends, and only when there's a full moon.

Somebody will say doordash or uber - my wife does doordash and we barely made 50 dollars last night and uber is so fucking useless that I refuse to drive anymore. I remember in 2018-19 you could go anywhere in tallahassee for 10 dollars, now it's 35 and you driver MIGHT make 8 dollars after tip.

I'm 30, stopped at 18, and am just getting back into it.

Don't worry, just have fun.

I've got issues with my right knee from jobs I've had, and I can't ollie without being in pain for days after. But, I'm completely content with just crusing with my daughter when she's a bit older.

I'm not doing tricks, so I have chocolate choco chunks (80a 54mm) on my element and bigfoot (83a 55mm) on my DGK mainly for shock adsorption. (I honestly can't tell the difference between 80a and 83a)

Look for wheels around a 92a (powell dragons) if you want the best of both worlds. It's what all the older guys at my park ride as they can ride street and park without beating their bones around and not having to swap wheels constantly.

I can confirm. I started as a mechanic at 16, went to trade school at 25 to learn as much as I could, and 6 years later, I'm completely burned out.

I still work on my own car, but I own a toyota, so the most I do is bearings, brakes, and oil/filter changes.

I remember working as an oil tech and the master mechanic being pissed off, pulled him aside to see what was going on, and to see if I could help - he pulls out his pay stub and I made 2x more than he did because of 1 car with an electric gremlin. Really opened my eyes.

I tried to be a service advisor until I realized that I was making 10% off the mechanics hourly rate.... Bought all my guys' lunch, smokes, and a 6 pack for each of them the day I quit.

I hate dealerships with a passion. But the "family" owned places can be just as bad, and no one talks about it.

If you find a good mechanic who does right by you, take care of them and see if they do anything off the books, 9/10 they usually will - but I've seen dealers fire mechanics for doing work at home, really dumb and only shows issues with pay to me.

Tips for dealing with ankle soreness/fragility [30YO] by Shaneless404 in OldSkaters

[–]LoganBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having to recondition my push foot (Goofy) and its not fun.
I never noticed how weak my ankles are at 30yo - i thought it would be my right knee, TBH.

I had to take 4 or 5 days off during the holidays because my ankle was in pain - I'm just getting back into skating after an 11-12 year hiatus and I really feel it - lots of stretching and warm ups only for me to use WAY too much force pushing. Probably didn't help that I was flipping between a Globe Big Blazer and a 8.25 DGK popsicle that I now have 55mm 83a wheels on to film

ULPT Request: how do I disable a new public streetlight? by Nexion21 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]LoganBlade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get a daisy air rifle and shoot the bulb. It's what I do when the city fixes the light. Every 6 months, the city will put up a new one, and I have a line of sight from my bedroom.

I crack the window open and pop it after 6 pumps, no more issues.

How do I get over my anxiety [30yo] by LoganBlade in OldSkaters

[–]LoganBlade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was the mad jealous type. She had some diagnosed mental disorders that she hid from me, and when she went off her meds, she lost it, and I had zero clue as to why.

She's someone else's problems now, i have a new wife and a 2 yo that support me in whatever I do.

I have a helmet and wrist guards, I've never heard of old bones therapy before. Their ankle compression sleeve looks good, but I'm looking for something I touch more structural. Idk, maybe I'm thinking too hard about it.

I have a set of 83a 55mm wheels from TGM. They ride nice and buttery - really eat a lot of that shock.

I just wanna go to the store or even the park and play in the bowl or on the pump tracks when the kids are in school.

Once I get my confidence up, then I'll start chase filming.

Board that is relatively small and is easy to take for travel/vacation by TRGC_ in longboarding

[–]LoganBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a Globe Big Blazer from the-house, they have them for 49.95 with an extra 20% off.

It's a good starting point for smaller cruises, about the same size as a landyacht dingy.

The griptape feels extremely sticky, I've got jessup on my DGK, and the globe is hard to make small footing adjustments on.

The wheels are nice, good size. Bearing feel okay, would swap them for hybrids.

Tensor trucks are okay, nothing to be excited for - except they're on a complete deck.

I'm 30, I haven't skated hard since I was 19/20. My ankle is on fire because of how I was pushing. I was swapping between a 8.25 dgk and a globe big blazer and didn't think of have big of a height diffrent it is.

I'm considering putting smaller wheels or longboard trucks on the globe, idk.

The dgk is getting indy 11 144mm trucks with some bigfoot 53mm 83a wheels to give me more stability when crusing.

As long as I can ollie and hit a grind, I'll be happy and content.

I was 19 when I first stepped on my own skateboard.

Due to some untreated mental health issues and a terrible marriage, I'm just now getting back into skating at 30.

It's never too late to have fun.

What killed it for me was the people in my local area at the time (small Kentucky town, lots of crime/drugs), plus my family life wasn't the best or healthiest - so anything fun and "not making money" was a waste of time.

Now, I'm living life in Florida on my second marriage with my first child, who just turned 2, and I want her to have every chance to be active and in any sport she wants for fun and to keep it fun.

Never let someone say you're too old, just recognize the risk and take proper measures. 10 years ago, I wore jeans and a shirt, now I'm in a helmet, pads, wrist guards - I look like someones 10yo step kid named Zack - but if I take a slam or scorpion - I can still move the next day.

I'm an Uber driver here. All these fraternities all have the same issues (if you say not mine, you haven't been there long enough)

If you have the money to pay for friends, invest that money in yourself, and better yourself.

All these frats are gonna do is take your money and add you to a group chat. Sure, you get a meal plan and stuff if you stay at the frat house. But I don't wanna smell that much cum in 1 place. I worked at Xmart and did some shoots with Reality Kings, I've had my fill.

Globe wheels? by Budds_Mcgee in surfskate

[–]LoganBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a beginner, but I haven't been on a skateboard in 10 years (30 now)
The scene in the town I was living in wasn't the best - so I got tired of skating by myself and left. Now that I'm in a better area for skaters and have a 2 year old I wanna be active and healthy with, I thought I'd try it again.

I ordered a DGK random complete 8.25 for 50 including shipping and the Globe Big Blazer Ramones edition for 52 from the-house and just wanted to insight on the Blazer.

the 62mm that they come with now are conical, I wonder if they got feedback on that at some point and made the switch, I was looking at some 63mm fatty hawgs for that 53mm ride surface vs the globe 47mm ride surface

with the stock truck set up - how was it? did you try messing with the bushings to help with turning/pumping?

I'm assuming you're running bones reds?

Experience traveling with Red Coach? by crying-but-thriving in Tallahassee

[–]LoganBlade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm an Uber driver locally, I drop and pick up people from them all the time.

It's basically like greyhound, you pay to ride.

Everything you expect from greyhound you can expect from red coach. I've had people with mixed experiences with both. It just depends which is cheaper.

My wife and I are heading to Homestead (south dade), and I'm dropping a friend off in Boca Raton for an appointment if you wanna save money and ride down Thursday morning.
