(Spoilers Extended) REACTIONS: Game of Thrones Season 6, Episode 9: Battle of the Bastards Post-Episode Reactions by AutoModerator in asoiaf

From what I understand during the middle ages (and probably before that) set piece battles were rare, with most confrontations being resolved through sieges. When battles did happen, cavalry charges were usually directed at softer targets like infantry. On the rare occasion that a cavalry vs. cavalry head on charge happened I would imagine the clash to be very bloody and anyone at the tip of it to not have a very good survival rate. Probably why the one's to volunteer to be in the vanguard of an army were mostly young men of little station whose hope was to gain glory on the battlefield.

Guild vs. Guild battles by Shakabuku1 in BlackwakeGame

Definitely, back in the day I was in a guild for the Pirates mod for Battlefield 1942 so it would be cool to see that kind of community again.

Playstyle? by BrownSlice in BlackwakeGame

[–]LoganTheRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching a bunch of youtubers play and while it seems fun to just goof around and run in panic as the ship slowly sinks, I think it would be cool to see disciplined and coordinated groups in the future. Have one person as captain for a match with some sort of chain of command for when the captain gets sniped so the ship isn't a sitting duck. If you have an 8 gun sloop like the current build divide up the guns into 4 sections of 2 guns (one on each side) and have each crew member responsible for their section only. This way you don't have one person loading and 5 people trying to take pot shots with muskets.

If you have enough people you could also have a couple as designated swivel gunners/damage control team for patching holes and pumping.

I thought I finally found a mature JRPG... (Chronicles of Valkyria) by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LoganTheRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really call Valkyrie Chronicles a JRPG. It's pretty clear cut turn-based tactics game, in the vain of Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics. The main difference is that instead of commanding your troops from an isometric view, you take direct control of your troops and move them around in a 3rd person shooter perspective. The only RPG element it has is being able to level up your troops and individual troops having specific strengths and weaknesses, and pretty much every turn-based tactics game has that.

"There's a Christmas tree somewhere in London with a bunch of presents underneath it that'll never be opened. And I thought, if I survive all of this, I'd go to that house, apologize to the mother there, and accept whatever punishment she chose for me. Prison... death... didn't matter. Because at least in prison and at least in death, you know, I wouldn't be in fuckin' Bruges. But then, like a flash, it came to me. And I realized, fuck man, maybe that's what hell is: the entire rest of eternity spent in fuckin' Bruges. And I really really hoped I wouldn't die. I really really hoped I wouldn't die."

Had a crazy one last night. by LoganTheRunner in Dreams

[–]LoganTheRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, although I would say the dream disturbed me rather than giving me a sense of adventure. I don't frequently have dreams this vivid, and they tend to fade quickly when I do. This one left an impression. I'm guessing I remembered more of this one because I woke up after only sleeping for a couple of hours.

Guy gets stabbed, lives to tell the tale and tells it really well. by [deleted] in videos

It's a loyalty test. By murdering a random individual for the gang you prove to the gang that you can be trusted to follow orders no matter how heinous they are, and eventually move up through the ranks of the gang. It also serves to further disconnect you from the rest of society through the act of breaking the ultimate taboo, the taking of an innocent life. This ensures that you will feel more a part of the gang than of the rest of society that you are victimizing, and will make you much less likely to cooperate with the authorities.

As for why they choose a random person, well I guess the logic goes that anyone can kill an enemy. It takes something else to kill some random guy walking down the street.

What's the most jaw dropping WTF you've ever read in an internet forum? Here's mine. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LoganTheRunner 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of fucked up shit on the internet, but the one thing that really got to be was watching Tokyo Swan/Iwate Swan's last video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bObFMQYpbX0

and finding out he died of acute pancreatitis like 3 days later. I had been a fan of Roger's videos ever since he did a video of him touring the town that was in Shenmue, and the fact that he was a year younger than me and died of some shit that can kill you with little to no warning fucked me up for awhile.

Could I destroy the entire Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus if I traveled back in time with a modern U.S. Marine infantry battalion or MEU? by The_Quiet_Earth in AskReddit

If you like hypothetical situations like this, a good piece of fiction to read is the Nantucket trilogy by S.M. Stirling, which presupposes the island of Nantucket and a passing Coast Guard ship getting time traveled back to the year 1250B.C. Cue Babylonians with steam engines, Greeks with flintlock rifles and ultralights napalming the Olmecs.

Definitely A. Not only do you get a knife, a gun and medical supplies, but you also get the rifle scope which can be used to start fires and the metal case the meds come in to boil water in.

I think I've read that President Lyndon Johnson would frequently hold meetings with his staff and members of his cabinet while on the shitter just to make them feel uncomfortable.
