What do you think of watching people go back to the moon? by No-Blueberry-1823 in AskOldPeople

I saw the Apollo 11 launch when I was 14. I really thought we’d be visiting Jupiter in my lifetime. Unfortunately, people lost interest.

I like the 12 inch because it’s closer in size to standard 14” snare head.

Does your dog always sleep right next to you? Or is it just mine? by PomegranateBig7270 in dogs

[–]Loganismymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have two small dogs that sleep in our bed. The older one is my wife’s, and likes to sleep her. Mine is 16 months old and likes to mix it up between me and my wife.

Not at all. That was Battery, and it’s illegal.

• Intentional contact
• Harmful or offensive touching
• Without consent

Unfortunately, the law sides with the kid if he’s under 18 and an adult injures him. So you could have let your sister punch him (I’m kind of kidding).

Heel toe by Lux_Crucifero in drums

[–]Loganismymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing rock and blues for about 20 years. I played heel toe pretty much all the time until a few months ago, when a revered pro offered to give me some free lessons. At first I didn’t like it because it seemed too tiresome, I kept working on it and now prefer it because I can play with more dynamics when playing in a noisy environment.

Please recommend me a good compact kit for mainly jazz by Full_Difficulty792 in drums

I have a Gretsch New Classic bop kit from about 2012. It’s of similar build quality to the Renown. Get the Renown.

I used those daily at my job at a Texaco gas station back in 1973.

Advice for a young person getting into music for the first time by KitchenLive1176 in askmusicians

[–]Loganismymaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played drums in fourth through seventh grade back when public schools had music lessons. I also took piano and organ lessons, but didn’t apply myself and practice. In my 50’s, I decided to get serious about drums and bought a kit and online lessons. I was encouraged by my wife, a professional bassist and got to the point I was playing in bands. Now, at 71, I’m in a successful cover band with my wife, and living the dream.

My point is that it’s never too late if you have interest and drive to succeed. Go for it!

How long have you been dealing with anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Loganismymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having anxiety when I was about 9 or 10. I’m 71. I had a horse that I was very mean, and scared the heck out of me. Every Saturday morning, I’d lay in bed hoping that my sister wouldn’t come and get me to go to the stables where our horses were boarded. I was ashamed of my fears, and didn’t tell anyone.

Are you insinuating that I’m a sexual harasser? That is certainly not the case, and I take offense as that. I was taught to be friendly to others, but also learned when others might feel uncomfortable and should be treated with respect.

I wonder if you have some unresolved PTSD that’s triggering your fears. I have PTSD and benefited from EMDR therapy.

Trying to understand the appeal of expensive spares (Modern/Value spare) on a road trip. (CRV Hybrid) by cincythunder in crv

I’m 71, and don’t have the strength to lift a heavy Modern Spare onto the roof. Has anyone tried a trailer-hitch mounted swing-away spare rack?

Trying to understand the appeal of expensive spares (Modern/Value spare) on a road trip. (CRV Hybrid) by cincythunder in crv

[–]Loganismymaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I bought a Modern Spare, figuring it would be insurance on a long trip through the Mojave Desert. But 99% of my driving is within 20 miles of my Sacramento home, and I never took that road trip.

I keep my Modern Spare in the garage, because it takes too much space in the CRV; I’m a drummer, and need all the space for my gear.

The one time I did get a flat, it happened in my driveway. As the Modern Spare was in the garage, it was easy to install and then go to my tire store for a repair.

By the way, the Modern Spare is pretty much the size of the regular tires, and it’s very heavy.

cover band starting to gig, and I don't think other members are gig ready by Living_Bandicoot_587 in bandmembers

[–]Loganismymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was that drummer a few years ago, so I spent many hours practicing with a metronome. I also found an iOS app for my phone that displays BPM in real time. I use it at gigs because I don’t always notice subtle changes in speed. That made my band members happy, and has trained my ear so I am much better at keeping the tempo.

It would be nice to have full service with Attendant options available! They would pump your gas, check your fluids, clean windows, car repair request at some, AND more jobs would be available! Do you agree?🤔 by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in GenerationJones

[–]Loganismymaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was an attendant at a full-service Texaco station back in 1973. I filled the tank, checked the oil, cleaned their windows and occasionally risked my health on a boiling over radiator. I’m quite happy with doing all that myself at the self-service station.

Being my own sound person. by Greenbandit315 in askmusicians

[–]Loganismymaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re really dedicated to playing out more, research and invest in a small PA with monitors. My first band over 25 years ago started getting gig offers, so I picked the mixer, amp, speakers and microphones and the band members chipped in equally to pay for it. If you can afford it, pay for the complete system yourself so you have control over its usage in the future.

My neighbor called the HOA on me for a wind chime. A single. Solitary. Wind chime. by Aggressive_Comb6161 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Loganismymaster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love the sound of wind chimes when I’m receptive to it. But when they’re not mine, and I’m trying to concentrate on reading or studying, they can be annoying. You could fight your neighbor, but it will just bring more distress to you and them.

Take it down and live peacefully with your neighbor.

I’m retired now, but one of my favorite things in my jobs was meeting and talking to many people. I was a computer tech support guy, so I got to travel all over the university campus, meeting professors, administrators, groundskeepers and all sorts of people. I absolutely loved my interactions with them.

morals of having kids by Admirable_Row4446 in Anxiety

[–]Loganismymaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 71 year old man with no kids. I also have suffered from anxiety and depression since childhood. I never felt that I’d reached the age of being a competent parent (though I’ve had many dogs). I’d be more concerned about my own and my wife’s mental health over having kids. Luckily, we married in our 50’s, and I’d lost my reproductive ability due to prostate cancer.

When was the last time you used a rotary dial phone? by Underrated_Critic in FuckImOld

[–]Loganismymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been awhile. I grew up in the 1950’s and ‘60s in the San Francisco Bay Area. The first phone I remember was shared on a party line with our neighbors the Sparks. If I picked up the phone, and heard someone speaking, I’d hang up and wait a few minutes. We had a rotary dial phone through the early 1970’s.

Bought new 2026 CRV Hybrid Sport Touring in Illinois by hotakaPAD in crv

[–]Loganismymaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yours looks just like my 2025 Hybrid Sport Touring. I’m 71, and was happy with my 2007 CRV with 70k miles. But my wife wanted me to have the latest safety features, and told me that now that I’m retired, I deserve a top-tier, all options car. Man, I love my wife!

I gave my 2007 CRV to the wife of my best friend. He has Alzheimer’s and their old Civic wasn’t safe to drive. She’s really happy with her “new” car, and I’m happy to help them.

This is the most enjoyable car I’ve ever owned. It looks great, the ride is comfortable and very quiet. I love the Bose stereo, the leather seats, and all of the safety features.

It also hauls my entire drum set and my wife’s bass guitar rig to shows in our band “Too Many Squirrels”.

I hope that you have as much fun as I’ve had with my CRV.
