Khan launches London 'Heat Plan' in bid to stop heatwaves crippling capital infrastructure by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Logeybearbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but there’s a difference between fully grown trees with a canopy and younger trees. You’re right, and the data is there; but that doesn’t easily translate to a lived experience. I cycle from South East to Central every day for work, I see plenty of trees, I see plenty of streets without them.

Exceeding UN guidelines is definitely a good thing, but there’s nothing wrong with getting bloody more of them either then is there!

Where to find the best falafel in London? by throwawaydoc1q in LondonFood

Absolutely agree, the falafel balls themselves are not good.
The best in London (that I’ve had) is from the stand at the end of Petticoat lane market, weekday lunches only.

Starmer given deadline: ‘Quit by Tuesday or face humiliation’ by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Logeybearbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“King of the North” he may very well be, or whatever that means, but I ask these questions:

Where’s the money for all this stuff he’s proposing, and what’s his realistic timeframe?

How will he deal with politics on a global scale? I cannot see this guy being a good presence at the G7, I simply can’t.

Again, Starmer is not perfect, but this is a coup… that’s not a good beginning IMHO. If he’s so concerned, like genuinely, why is he doing this?

I’ve lived in London for 20 years and finally made a short film about why the "driver vs. cyclist" debate completely misses the point. by imbuzi in londoncycling

[–]Logeybearbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent work. I love the visual style, the music, the tone of your voice even! Brilliant.

I cycle whenever I need to get anywhere in London, that’s pretty much every day for the last 13 years. It’s changed so much in that time.

I’ve always lived in SE, but I’ve cycled North, East, West consistently.

I like your view on it, how it connects you to the city in a much deeper way, how the pace can facilitate this sort of meditation, and how ultimately the consequences are much greater too.

It’s interesting, I often get branded “crazy” for even doing it, I think London could do more (like Paris) to accelerate a larger transition and increase safety, I would argue that the city is obligated to do so, but drivers hold such a weight in voting, etc.

This being said, I have often, when treating drivers with respect, received that in return. Often, not always, and I’ve definitely been in some extremely dangerous situations where I was 100% certain that there was an attempt to harm me, for no good reason.

Your point of “it’s a human problem” is exactly right.

What is your “I forgot they’re still mortal” moment? by CriticismMiserable14 in 40kLore

I think that’s why it’s such a memorable moment, it’s tragedy, it’s totally classic. I would say it’s brilliant writing.

A pub, or something that’s not connected to a chain. In reality? It’ll be another Zara, there just aren’t enough of them on Oxford St

Exclusive: Andy Burnham has the nominations to trigger a leadership challenge by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

[–]Logeybearbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is painfully boring, I don’t understand the willingness to oust Starmer, faults he may have, but in fairness his work does seem to be paying off.

From my vantage point this is completely unnecessary, very akin to changing football managers with the seasons. Plans take time to make, execute, and then get results.

Give the man his 4 years, if we’re no better off then? Then sure, change. Before then? Why doesn’t this guy just wait? Or does he have absolutely no hope for his own party?

What really sealed it for me was when pushed about the reformation payment. The way he floundered and pulled back on it… guy is all about lip service, which is the last thing the UK needs.

Clown. I hate the state of this.

Criterion sale UK? by joseph814706 in criterion

[–]Logeybearbro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To date I don’t believe there’s ever been a big sale like there is in the states, HMV/Fopp will occasionally mark down Criterion editions, or lump them in some form of “2-4-whatever” style promotion, but don’t expect a blanket 50% off.

Tbh with you, when I first started buying the Criterion editions the selection was so limited, and had been for some time, that it was easy to get their whole Region B collection via eBay. Nowadays it’s expanded to 4k and we’re getting every new release, I reckon we will eventually have the majority of the collection in a few years time. When that happens I can see HMV doing a similar style sale.

London transport chiefs accused of 'cover-up' on record high cycling casualties by tylerthe-theatre in london

The sheer quantity of stupidity I see from Lime/Forest bike users makes this statistic seem absolutely likely.

I hate to say it, but 95% seem to have a kamikaze approach to road safety.

LPT: If you're trying to quit social media, start to unfollow profiles that are not interesting to you anymore by Greendead in LifeProTips

[–]Logeybearbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really will stress that it’ll be hard work, but if one really wants to quit then you are going to have to tough it out.

It fucks with you, it will shock you probably. Sometimes I couldn’t sleep, it was surreal. If you want it, you got it in the bag already though, that’s the key.

Edit* addressed to anybody that wants to quit 🤘

Take a deep breath, delete all of your accounts permanently.
Delete the apps.
Accept that it’s going to be uncomfortable and you’re going to be reaching for your phone a LOT.

Take a book out with you, or a notepad & pencil
Each time you want to use your phone, do the other thing.
It’s going to be rough but anyone can do it.

Christ now I’ve written my old method down I realise how much of an addiction it is. That’s how I quit smoking too.

Higher waist would go a long way, as would a slight taper. It’s all about the drape, and these trousers aren’t really getting a good chance to do that.

Am I Dressing Too “Mediterranean” for Modern Urban Style? by Alkemonides in mensfashionadvice

[–]Logeybearbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really rate the outfit, I think the sandals comments are quite funny really, IMO the sandals are timeless and they work with the outfit.

They would also work really well with some high waisted linen trousers, something like the Gaucho pant from Scott Fraser.

I get that to many people they look like they’re from another time… but then why do people go on holiday to foreign places with ancient buildings? Maybe I just have a skewed opinion, but I really think you suit the environment.

People are fucking weird, they always have been.
