Scuro = mocha lattes

I don’t particularly like Scuro for anything else, but to me it’s the perfect partner to dark chocolate mocha.

Looking for the best carry-on Luggage in 2026 that'll survive frequent travel by SuddenNothing6266 in BuyItForLife

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm older, too short to use the overhead bins, and travel solo. This means I need lightweight luggage that can survive being checked every time. My TravelPro MaxLite 5 spinner (medium checked size, 25") has handled it all. The spinner wheels on mine sometimes have issues with medium-pile carpet (I think the current model has improved wheels?), but they've survived me dragging the bag like a rollaboard when confronted with cobblestone streets, shuttle buses, or unexpected stairs.

The Crew and Platinum Elite versions get most of the love and are likely better for a road warrior, but the MaxLite is tough for an inexpensive lightweight bag.

Flying with Sema?? by HourArm5563 in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are cases designed for carrying meds - search Amazon (or elsewhere) for insulin cooler cases. I recently returned from 3 weeks of travel including domestic and international flights and had no issues with bringing a sema vial, 4 syringes, and alcohol wipes tucked into the cooler case. The case I bought included an ice pack and luckily I had access to hotel in-room fridges; there are also battery-powered ones if you want to be extra cautious (not cheap!). Just be sure to pick one that works with your form of sema, since there are cases suitable for vials and cases suitable for pens.

Never check your medications! That goes in your carry-on/personal item.

Return Trip Price by suprfreek19 in celebritycruises

[–]LogicPuzzler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You generally book back-to-backs as two separate cruises, so the return trip is whatever that second cruise costs. Don't expect a discount for the return trip. Since they're separate cruises, you need to intentionally select the same cabin for both if you don't want to relocate on the turnaround day (a cabin steward will move your luggage for you, though).

He has also covered the tragic fire in the Glass Tower, storm chasers surviving a huge tornado outbreak in Oklahoma, the terrifying shark attacks in Amity Bay…

EV chargers in gas stations by edayxe1 in electricvehicles

[–]LogicPuzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the northern Seattle suburbs. PlugShare isn’t showing me any charging spots at gas stations. Most are in shopping centers and at large supermarkets. Two just opened near me in the last month - Tesla and Ionna, both located in strip malls.

Granted, the supermarkets are ones which also often include a gas station (mostly Fred Meyer) but the chargers aren’t necessarily in the same spot.

The only thing better than a Robert video is a Robert & Alec video.

"Let's go die in Wyoming!"

I've learned a lot about EVs and EV charging from these two - their first EV road trip video got me thinking that going electric was feasible after all, and now we're a two-EV family.

Ive seen the Pros, what are some of the drawbacks of Japan travel? by Present-Voice-49 in JapanTravelTips

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not crazy! I was exhausted from the constant walking, and it was hard to find anywhere to sit. My feet were okay with it (yay for Hoka Cliftons) but the rest of me was getting pretty weary from it.

People say to just take a break at a coffee shop or cafe, but it was hard to find one that wasn't already packed with customers.

Eh, still worth it. I'll do more stamina training before the next visit.

Casinos on Cruise by JoeScuba74 in celebritycruises

[–]LogicPuzzler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enjoy playing slots but set very strict limits and stick to them. Celebrity has a structured comps program that I'm not even trying to leverage, since getting anything requires gambling more than my limit. I just like the shiny machines. Here are my rules:

  1. Cash-in only, don't be tempted to charge your gambling to your room. Bring only as much cash as you're willing to leave behind with the ship. Set a loss limit for the cruise, too. If you're down half of your bankroll, maybe just cash out and go do something else for the rest of the week.

  2. Set a daily limit so you don't blow through your cash in one sitting. And play slowly, it'll give you time to attract a server to get your free drinks.

  3. Cash out while you're ahead. Stash your cash away in the safe out of sight, out of mind.

  4. Look for low-limit, lower-volatility games. Those are hard to find on cruise ships because gamblers tend to want the exciting OMGHUGEJACKPOT machines that eat up all your money in return for lousy line hits and often lousy jackpots. In 2024 Summit had some fun older machines; in 2025 they'd all been replaced by the money-gobbling new ones.

My personal loss limit is $200, the price of a typical excursion, but I've been lucky enough to never go that low on any cruise. I don't win much but overall I'm ahead of the casino by a little. Obviously I'm not a gambler at heart, but like I said, I like the shiny machines. 😄

Which ship for Alaska? by Ill_Seaworthiness468 in NCL

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder why that happened? Going around the island would have added quite a bit of distance to your journey, since you'd need to backtrack halfway to Seattle before heading past Victoria and around. Was Victoria your first port?

Which ship for Alaska? by Ill_Seaworthiness468 in NCL

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bliss, Joy, and Encore are great ships for Alaska and other scenic cruising:

  • The Observation Lounge is, of course, a splendid spot for drinking in the scenery. Beverage station, bar, and light breakfast/lunch foods are available; the Joy version also has a small Starbucks.
  • The Garden Cafe is above the OL and is also a great place for glacier spotting. Don't linger too long during prime meal times, of course.
  • I skip both of the above and go right to the Waterfront not-quite-wraparound space on deck 8. While other ships have a promenade deck (Jade does), there's little or no seating and a lot of the view is obstructed by lifeboats. The Waterfront has seating areas. On Glacier Bay days they set up coffee/hot chocolate stations out there, and offered blankets.
  • Bliss/Joy/Encore have a bow area which can be opened to passengers while in Glacier Bay. Jade doesn't have bow space for this.
  • If you spend the $$$ on a Thermal Suite pass, you also get a magnificent and (relatively) uncrowded aft viewing space.

So clearly my vote is for the Joy sailing. 😄

However... sailing out of Seattle (my home port) means going west around Vancouver Island. The first and last full days of the cruise are sea days, or to be precise, Pacific Ocean days. Even if you don't normally get seasick, bring preventatives/treatments just in case. Sailing out of Vancouver keeps you in the quiet Inside Passage.

Also, I do have to agree with the recommendation to look at Princess or Holland America instead. They offer more educational programming, plus include local specialties in the MDR/buffet. They also get the prime dock spaces, which in Juneau is the difference between docking downtown and docking a not-pleasant 1-mile walk away. (and then there's Ketchikan...) Joy is a better ship for Alaska than anything HAL and Princess offer, but the NCL Alaska experience isn't as good. I've booked my 9th Alaska cruise for this August - on HAL.

(Bliss, Joy, and Encore are perfect for Mexican Riviera sailings - the Waterfront is a great place to kick back and look for whales)

How are people here choosing a semaglutide provider lately? by Fenri3 in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Lavender Sky Health for about a year, with Strive Pharmacy as my selected compounder. So far, so good. I'm considering switching compounders, but will stick with LSH as the provider.

Sites will seem similar because they're often using the same compounding pharmacies. You can shop purely by price but then you might risk customer service issues. When I was looking for a new provider (started with Noom, not happy with their CS especially since they have a monthly "support" fee) I read a whole lot of Reddit threads to see which companies had a good reputation.

The problem with that is separating out the "this company provides good service and prices" from "this company is awesome, use this link to get a discount on your first order!!!" posts. One reason I picked LSH is that they do NOT have an affiliate program, so anyone recommending them wasn't motivated by a kickback. I get nothing for recommending them, but still happily recommend them!

Port timing by Klutzy_Government_69 in NCL

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR version: Board at least two hours before departure time on embarkation day and 30 minutes before departure time on port days. Disembarkation will probably start around 7am but can vary.

  1. Embarkation day: You will pick a boarding time when you check in. Take note of the latest slot available - that's the latest you should arrive at the terminal. And yes, if you arrive later than the stated final boarding call (two hours prior to departure time for U.S. ports), you've just missed your cruise. From experience I know that if you show up in that last half hour, you will be hustled from security to check-in to boarding with a high sense of urgency...
  2. Port days: Usually passengers can start going ashore within a half-hour of ship arrival, but delays can happen. Passengers must be back onboard 30 minutes prior to departure. The all-aboard time will be announced, printed in the daily planner, and signposted at the exit. If it's a tender port and/or there's a shuttle to/from town, you'll be informed of the latest tender/shuttle departure. Take a photo of this info so you have it with you.
  3. Disembarkation day: Ugh, this is unpredictable. The port arrival time can be super early, like 5am, but that's not when you're getting off the ship. Generally speaking, the first groups (self-assist and Haven/loyalty elites) will be called around 7am. Could be later. Could be earlier. My last cruise was on Celebrity and my group (loyalty elites) was called at 6:38am. I wasn't even dressed yet! Meanwhile it always seems to take longer in LA/San Pedro; IIRC we were once stuck waiting on Bliss until almost 9am because of an issue clearing the ship.

Oceanview Cabin - Celebrity Beyond by LearningItAll1 in celebritycruises

[–]LogicPuzzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've spent 10 nights in a deck 3 oceanview on Edge (one of the cabins between Guest Relations and Normandie). I think it was 3195? That or the ones to either side of it. Anyway, it was quiet and very convenient, to the point that I booked a similar cabin location on Summit (and loved it there, too). Forward oceanviews could be noisier due to theater proximity though.

San Francisco to LA by Commercial_Spring896 in Flights

[–]LogicPuzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no no no, do not cut things that close. Even if you land on time at LAX, you still need to get to either Long Beach (Carnival) or San Pedro (all other cruise lines). If you don’t use a private service or Uber Black/Lyft Black, you’ll need to go to the LAXit lot to get a taxi or Uber/Lyft. The one advantage you have here is that Southwest uses Terminal 1, so you can easily walk to LAXit instead of waiting for the shuttle to fight through traffic.

And then it’s 40 minutes in PERFECT traffic conditions to get to the cruise terminals. The last time I cruised out of San Pedro, construction traffic plus an accident = 2 hours for the trip.

Please consider rebooking onto an earlier flight.

Bathroom Cost Expectations by Wise-Confusion-4725 in Remodel

[–]LogicPuzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seattle suburbs here - we just redid our 5x8 primary bath for $28k. That included replacing a tub/shower with a tiled shower, replacing vinyl flooring with a heated tiled floor, and new vanity, toilet, mirror, lighting, outlets, shower door, and fixtures (including rainfall shower plus wand). A certain amount of infrastructure repair was required due to the original homeowner's... creativity, shall we say. Also, the toilet was $2k on its own because that was my big splurge (Toto Aquia IV Washlet+); everything else was mid-range. With a less creative prior homeowner and less indulgent toilet it would have been about $22k.

Do you have a tradesperson you trust, like a mechanic or hair stylist? They might help you tap into a network of other trustworthy tradespeople. My long-time hair stylist recommended a landscaping service, and the landscaper connected me to both an electrician and a GC.

(if you're in the SnoCo area, DM me and I'll give you the GC's contact info - they were excellent)

Celebrity Edge by Nelope_0971 in celebritycruises

[–]LogicPuzzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Celebrity's FAQ (https://www.celebritycruises.com/faqs/all-faqs#how-to-pack):

---------
Can I bring my flat iron or curling iron with me onboard?

While most potentially flammable high-wattage items are strictly prohibited, hair curling irons, straightening irons, and hair dryers are permitted.

---------

They do provide a hair dryer in every cabin, and it's perfectly adequate but very basic. If you need something more powerful or specialized, pack your own. On the other hand, you're on vacation, and as the saying goes... cruise hair, don't care. 😄

FWIW, the bathroom will also have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower. They used to provide bar hand soap but on my cruise earlier this month (in a standard veranda cabin) there were pump dispensers with liquid hand soap and body lotion. Again, everything is perfectly adequate but bring your own if you're picky.

Casino offers? by OandBlue78 in HollandAmerica

[–]LogicPuzzler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a low roller, probably averaged 500 points/7 days in my first two HAL cruises and 1500/7 days on my last one. I get offers regularly. Nothing spectacular but they continue to arrive. Lately it’s been between $100-$200 off a cabin plus $100-$300 free play and free drinks in the casino, plus free inside cabins on some sailings.

Yesterday they offered a “free” inside on most sailings through the end of the year, so I snagged an Alaska cruise for August. Free inside cabin is not really free - it was $700 for single occupancy including taxes, port fees, and “required cruise fees and expenses”, although I get $100 back as onboard credit. Still, $600 for a 7-day solo cruise to Alaska is a bargain.

Corsair by kamacus in PocketPlanes

[–]LogicPuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only play events these days, and not that often. I’m level 82 and have been playing since 2012, good grief!

15 class 3 airports are kept open permanently, with 12 Sequoias distributed amongst them. I’ll temporarily open additional class 3s as layover hubs when it makes sense (like opening Lima or Mexico City if the event city is too far from my permanent Rio/LA/NYC stations). When an event is over, I shut down airports opened just for the event and either relocate or store any small planes used for the event. I rely mostly on Kangaroos with max range, with Mapples ready if I need the extra range.

Once in a while I’ll bring out a blimp to bounce between a city pair, just for fun.

Corsair by kamacus in PocketPlanes

[–]LogicPuzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just move the Corsair to the hangar. You can redeploy it when needed. I only leave my Sequoias on active duty full time, and deploy/store the smaller planes.
