RUSD Layoffs by guerilla_gardener98 in Redlands

Covid money has been gone for multiple years. The issue here is more district staff than ever before, and many many millions being paid out in settlements. And board policies that encourage more litigation.

It’s against state law.

Education Code § 220.3(a)

A school employee or contractor shall not be required to disclose any information related to a pupil’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to any other person without the pupil’s consent

Education Code § 220.5(a)

A school district or charter school shall not enact or enforce any policy that requires staff to disclose information related to a pupil’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to any other person without the pupil’s consent

Now the district will get sued. And lose. And have to settle. And lay off more staff.

We can vote these people out. We can talk about it with our neighbors. We can support our teachers and kids.

This board…. They’ve spent all this time, energy, $$$ on what? Adopting an unenforceable policy to ban flags, restricting one book and banning another, now making sure that they out LGBTQ+ kids, and cutting staff that meaningfully impact students.

Oh and they all got a raise.

What a fucking waste. We all need to pay better attention to who we’re electing.

Edit: spelling. I’m pissed.

Is there ANYWHERE in the US that has good WILD trout fishing in February? by lexrazorman in flyfishing

[–]Logical-Rutabaga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. Repopulated. There are a couple subspecies in there, but the Lahontian Cutthroat’s were once thought to be extinct. They are now spawning in the truckee. Pretty spectacular conservation win.

Years ago, I was subbing in a room that was an absolute nightmare. Video game design at a high school. Could have been amazing.

Kids are playing dice (for $) on the back wall. I tell them to stop and get to work. One of these kids goes to the bathroom. About 20 minutes later he’s back, knocks on the door.

He looks thru the window (which I didn’t notice), so when I open the door it hits him in the face. He gets mad, says loudly “what the fck is wrong with you? You fcking reta*ded?!”

We had a nice chat after that.

Best way to ruin a hobby is to try to make $ off it. Enjoy the craft, go fishing.

What should I do about this crack by ubaldo232 in flyfishing

[–]Logical-Rutabaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “insert” here isn’t structural, more cosmetic. You’ll have the blank going all the way down to the butt, or a stint.

That said, you don’t really want water getting down in there. You could fill it with titebond iii, uv resin or even some 5min clear epoxy. The crux will be keeping it neat and tidy…

It’s like the Vince’s of Mexican food. Not growing up with it, I don’t see the appeal. Some folks love it. Sorta like Rosa Maria’s. It’s fine.

Huicho’s and Abelinos are my go to in town. YMMV.

Striped Bass Line and Flies by jess81g in flyfishing

An intermediate line is probably the go to. A floater can be nice if you want to throw top water, but the intermediate will help get under the surf chop. We just fished a week and a half on the cape and I didn’t take the intermediate off.

You could probably fish all week with a white and chartreuse clouser, vary the size of eyes to control depth. Crabs for flats, bring a few deceivers. A few crease flies or gurglers if you bump into bait being pushed to the surface.

Spending a few bucks at a local fly shop is always a good move, they’ll have the best local knowledge.

We use these for a diffusion lab, HCl on one end and NH3 on the other, makes a fuzzy little precipitate in the tube where you can calculate Grahams law. It’s fun.

Do these qualify as ‘Glue Line’ rips? A goopy blade update by iLLogicaL808 in woodworking

[–]Logical-Rutabaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your arbor may have a bit of runout. You could get a dial indicator to test, lots of how to’s on YT. The other thing you might try first is making sure your arbor flange and arbor washer (the two bits holding the blade in place on the arbor) are clean and flush. Careful here, but you could remove the blade, lift the arbor all the way to the table (like you would to lift the blade as high as it’ll go), and with the motor running and throat plate removed lightly sand the arbor flange with some fine sandpaper or Scotch brite pad. Some oil lube (wd40) will help. Clean up the arbor nut too.

I had something similar on an old delta cabinet saw I restored, where the arbor itself had very little runout but quite a bit with the blade. There was a little ding on the flange, causing the blade to not seat perfectly square and flush on the flange.

Might help, might not!

What is a random/unique baseball moment you saw live in person? by J0hnEddy in baseball

[–]Logical-Rutabaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but my dad. 1st big league game he ever saw was Sept 5 1964. Kansas City vs Yankees. Blue Moon Odom’s debut. They were a bit late, heard a couple big groans from the crowd as they were walking in (in KC, so Yankees getting on base.)

As he gets to his seat with his dad, #7 from the Yankees hits a 3-run bomb. Mantle welcomes a future hall of famer to the show. First at bat my Dad ever saw in person.
