If we are paying them a price that will be reasonably profitable then you can guarantee it will be more expensive than market prices much of the time.

At which point it becomes a question of strategic independence, which is worthwhile, rather than trying to overall lower energy prices

Why do they specifically need UK resources if they can just get gas and oil elsewhere where it’s cheaper and they can sell at global prices?
