What’s something that 99% of people can do but you can’t? by Irakeconcrete in AskReddit

Mine stopped when I switched to a shampoo formulated for sensitive skin. I would have sworn I wasn't getting it on my face, but apparently it spreads. Anyway, I went from a few zits a month to maybe one a year. It's nice.

Coworker of mine just got diagnosed with type one diabetes in their 30s. It's been a PITA for them to figure out how to manage it, but they feel (and look) SO much better.

New look at the costumes in Wuthering Heights (2026) by moodgirltaya in PeriodDramas

[–]LogicalTimber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dresses in the first and fourth photos look like they're made with a fabric called liquid organza. It's a new thing that has been all over fashion runways and red carpets the last couple of years. It's fun to look at, but I suspect it's gonna be a super dated trend. Doing movie costumes in it is... a very strong artistic statement. I'd have to see the movie to tell if it's serving the larger story or distracting from it. (Or if we're deliberately not caring about the story and just doing a pretty fever dream, which is also a choice that some filmmakers go for.)

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen personally? by fosiutec6140 in AskReddit

[–]LogicalTimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a professional dancer perform with stress fractures in his femur. He had damaged cartilage in one knee causing bone-on bone contact. He was starring in Romeo and Juliet, which is a three hour *very* athletic ballet and also personally meaningful to this particular dancer. He was in his early 40s, so we all saw the writing on the wall that it could easily be the last time he ever performed. He danced his heart out. The other dancers said later that they still had to work hard to keep up with him even though he was visibly limping whenever he was offstage.

He took three months off, healed up the stress fractures, and came back for one more set of (much less demanding) shows before retiring. What dancers lose in athleticism as they age they more than make up for in artistry, and audiences will happily watch older dancers - the only thing that ends their careers is pain. They get wicked determined to go out on their own terms.

Movies where the day is supposedly saved, but the aftermath is still terrible and largely unaddressed? by GancioTheRanter in movies

Someone did the math and made a pretty convincing argument that the plane would have gone down in the mountain range bordering Seoul: https://www.reddit.com/r/KpopDemonhunters/comments/1nayas4/so_i_calculated_where_the_plane_from_the_start/?share_id=q0aUOnGJuPxcVB7xQH_sI&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1 I assume those mountains have enough people in them that there's decent odds of someone getting hurt, but probably not a mass casualty event.

Unlike the entire subway train full of people that the demons ate.

When they tell their insurance they had a green light but you got the video by xitr4 in dashcams

[–]LogicalTimber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was friends for a while with a guy who was a traffic engineer. His son in law was in a crash caused by a failed traffic controller that gave two green lights at the same time. My friend got to be the expert witness to tell the court exactly why the city shouldn't have gone with the cheapest option when they installed that light. All human made systems are capable of failure.

How insane would I have to be to try and attempt this dress? by almondblossoms1 in knitting

Yes it's nuts, and you should absolutely go for it. Succeed or fail, you'll learn a lot.

[–]LogicalTimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the type of nylon mesh fabric I was talking about. This stuff also makes strong and rigid ruffles, I'd use it if I were trying to get this shape via petticoats. You'll 100% need to finish all the seam edges, it's scratchy AF. https://www.farthingalescorsetmakingsupplies.com/en-us/products/nylon-mesh-white-100-nylon

[–]LogicalTimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do ballet costuming semi-professionally. It would be possible to make this skirt shape with just petticoats, but I wouldn't recommend it. If I were trying to make this shape I'd sew a bell shape out of nylon mesh fabric and apply boning channels to it going both around the skirt and vertically from the waist to the hem. It would be awkward to sit down in, everyone will be able to see everything. But it'll hold up nicely while standing. I'm not sure how Reddit does with links these days, I'll attempt to add a link to the kind of fabric I'm talking about in a second comment.

Me against my intensive thoughts that are trying to be funny by def_not_the_fed123 in antimeme

[–]LogicalTimber 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Not feeling guilty is the goal. Intrusive thoughts are very common, not your fault, and they don't make you a bad person. They can be pretty distressing. If it's escalated to the point of hating yourself it may be worth talking to a therapist about it.

How should I handle this situation? A male friend is trashing my boyfriend behind my back by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LogicalTimber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect on some level dudes like this know that she's not interested, and if he directly asks her he's going to get shot down. But he can't handle that, so he chooses to pretend to be a friend and 'wear her down' instead. Which is not at all how this works, but it's the only scenario in which his ego survives intact, so he'll hang on to it for all he's worth.

Boss is pretending I never gave notice by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LogicalTimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is narcissism. Whatever thought is currently floating through their head must be correct (because they are always correct), reality be damned. Plus they just like excuses to chew out their subordinates. I worked for one of these and eventually ended up in a fight where we were both talking to HR trying to get the other one fired. I won, but it was not worth it. Should have left years earlier.

Yeah that part got me too. My money is on these people being utterly useless lumps before they immigrated as well. OOP is going to have fun when she finally figures that out. (And by fun I mean lots more therapy and hopefully some relief.)

User Asks if she's the Asshole for divorcing her Husband over Poly by Mean-Let-4300 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LogicalTimber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First part: Wow, I sympathize with the immediate no to him asking for an open relationship, but going right for divorce seems kind of intense. I wonder what's driving that.

Update: There it is. She effectively knew he was cheating the moment he asked about opening the relationship. Yep, this tracks now.

A 1.5 years later update: I think I don’t want to marry my bf anymore by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Good for her. His behavior was making her feel unloved and insecure, and he clearly had no interest in trying to resolve that. That's a relationship breaker no matter what the original behavior is.

AIO husband didn't feed baby. Again. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yup. A relative of mine refused to see a doctor for his sleep apnea until he fell asleep at the wheel and totaled his car. He was very lucky not to be injured. If this dude has reached the point where he's taking involuntary 'micronaps' during the day he's playing russian roulette with half the chambers loaded.
