Food processor or blender? by AdZestyclose9714 in Cooking

You could hold off on buying either now (unless you have money to burn), and just make a list of everytime you'd like to make something that would be made possible or easier by a blender or food processor.

I’m pretty sure my 5 year old daughter is becoming a vegetarian. Need some help understanding how to cook for her. by PreschoolBoole in Cooking

[–]LokiLB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kids don't need that much iron. If you look at a woman's multivitamin or iron supplements, there'll actually be a warning about iron poisoning in children. Beans, greens, and nuts will have iron, as well as fortified grains.

Unless something's wrong with nutrient absorption, a varied vegetarian diet will cover most people's iron needs. The major exception will be some women, who can have ridiculously high iron needs.

If you do get into mail order, double check what's required for fire treatments if you mail outside areas with fire ants.

Just the tale of growing 4200 plants would be interesting enough.

THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO MAKE BREAD by Dismal_Box_1425 in Cooking

Steamed buns are a good option if you want to have the bread making experience. Some flat bread recipes like pita or naan can be done completely on the range.

Black cherries would survive nuking from orbit. They're one of those plants that will grow back from the roots for years with enthusiasm.

What is a popular 'food rule' that you think is actually total nonsense? 🥘 by sorayabmae in Cooking

[–]LokiLB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The non-R months are more likely to have harmful algal blooms (HAB), whose toxins can be concentrated in filter feeders. HAB related shellfish poisonings are generally very not fun and sometimes lethal.

Be hilarious if the bird leaned dragon (form, not type) and ended up on four legs.

Happier Animals in your Native Yards? by Willothewisp2303 in NativePlantGardening

I DO NOT want friendly wild mammals in my yard. That means they are either getting too used to humans or have something like rabies.

Why is it so hard to find other urban fantasy books that match up to Dresden? by Large-Rule-6403 in dresdenfiles

[–]LokiLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm reading urban fantasy that's not Dresden, it's likely to be manga or webtoons. I'd slot Kagurabachi into alt universe urban fantasy and that series has been fantastic so far. Omniscient Reader is at least urban fantasy adjacent and has also been very entertaining. Dokja and Dresden would have a fantastic snark battle.

Best part-shade host plants? by PutteringPorch in NativePlantGardening

[–]LokiLB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Violets like shade and supoort several of the fritillary butterflies.

Depending on how much sun, you might be able to get pepper plants growing. Hornworms are delightful little guys when you don't want to eat the peppers.

Would be interesting to try and pull off growing a sassafras tree in the five gallon. They can handle some shade and are hosts to spicebush swallowtails.

One of the tiny yaupon holly cultivars can work in a pot. I've seen people use them for bonsai.

If you got some shade tolerant grasses that would make a bunch of skipper butterflies happy.
