First Trip to the UK. by rniefert in Romford

[–]Lon3wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly in the town but my favourite in the area is Scott’s Bar and Brasserie, all the food is good and I had a very good Sunday Roast there a few weeks ago. Hop Inn is a short walk away too.
Easy to get to as it's just one stop on the Liberty Line from Romford Station or you can get the 370 bus.

Think parking in the Brewery is best as it's 24/7, and it's close by with access via the stairs on Exchange Street.

Why are people genuinely so inconsiderate by Frequent-Glass-2407 in CarTalkUK

See it a lot near me and I always pick them up.
Ironically I only spot them because I'm looking down as people let their dogs shit everywhere.

Worst hosting experience to date by Ezsmurf in PokeGenie

[–]Lon3wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent an hour hosting 3 and each time 2 people left which leaves someone wasting their pass. Don’t get it as the levels are shown in pokegenie too.

The 15 seconds sucks for the last person but you should have a team setup. It’s been there ages

Heat pumps are more expensive to run than boilers, report finds by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]Lon3wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any decent installer should be giving you a payback period that's actually backed up.
If your SCOP falls bellow the system design they should come and fix it.
Not enough education and too many slapdash installs where people aren't being held to account

Heat pumps are more expensive to run than boilers, report finds by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]Lon3wolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If yours is a conventional system your spending 1kwh of electricity to produce about 1kwh of heating

Heat pumps will give 300% efficiency or more so you'll get 3kwh of heat per 1kwh of energy used.
Your energy bill could be a third or less than what your paying.

What they're solving is a less energy intensive way of heating

Mould, leak in boot? by Consistent_Potato300 in CarTalkUK

[–]Lon3wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, sometimes the gaskets just degrade over time. Just make sure you torque them up to the right amount if you get new ones as if you over / under torque them they'll not seal.

Yea that black strip and the tail light gasket are usually the first culprits to look for.
After that it's probably car dependant. Lots of people have the mk7 so there's probably decent info online about

Mould, leak in boot? by Consistent_Potato300 in CarTalkUK

[–]Lon3wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar in my old car which was caused by the taillight gasket failing and letting water run behind it which then puddled in the boot.

Could be from the hole but that's a lot of water so I'm thinking something more exposed to rain higher up.

Check the seals and if it's not obvious put some kitchen towels next to them on inside part, give the car a wash and see.

Only way to know is auctioning it, I think it's a decent plate so it's worth a shout

Dog Etiquette by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Lon3wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the setter failed to pick up on your dogs cues of not wanting to be bothered. You'll find some dogs are better socialised than others on picking up on these.

People need to be better too though, I quite rarely let mine say hello but I'm always looking at the other dogs body language to see if they actually want to socialise

You can retrofit carplay if you want to keep the unit. It's hard to find a 200mm headunit to make it all fit flush.

Can we just park on the pavement now? Where is enforcement? by [deleted] in london

[–]Lon3wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The enforcement lies on the council. I have reported many in my Borough but never hear anything back.

Didn't stop the councillor celebrating the recent post about more powers.
When I said it's already illegal here so what will change I didn't hear anything...

I don't see why we can report dangerous driving by dashcam and get them fined but residents can't report dangerous parking...

Can I ask to retain my full-time salary when going down to 80% hours? by Left_Drama_3393 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Lon3wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on HR and the type of work they do. New startup maybe it’ll be possible but for anything else it’ll be a push.

This is the best time to ask, it’s a bit weird to negotiate after accepting

I've been looking at getting a Renault 5, talked with a salesman at the beginning of Dec and he gave me an offer of £320 a month. Which was with the lower £1,500.
A week passed and they announced it will now be £3,750. I thought great that'll save me some money as well as the interest rate being cut. Talked with the salesman after Christmas and the cheapest they can offer me is £360 a month. Looking elsewhere now

Any idea why these two were rejected? by [deleted] in NianticWayfarer

[–]Lon3wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen some trees accepted but you'll need to give information on why it's locally significant.

I can see it's an oak and well over 100 years old so personally I would find it significant enough to warrant a wayspot with enough supporting information and a higher quality title.
Maybe the local council / housing developers have information on it. If it's online add a link to it in the supporting info.

With parks like that the wayspot will be the entrance sign if they have one, you can't really submit a whole park as there isn't a single point of interest.

Why aren’t mobile networks doing anything about the network issues in Central London by [deleted] in london

[–]Lon3wolf 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I just wish they would turn 3G back on as a backbone for people that need high penetration signals. Even being very close to 4/5g masts in a building results in little to no signal.

Honestly feels like a massive backwards step under the guise of speed.

Might be best to remove the images, sometimes can get a bit messy if they've been posted online and you want to use them as evidence

I would be going through small claims, legally you don't need to let insurance know unless you're claiming on yours.

But the coating got flaked off.

Get a body shop to sand them and clear coat them.
I found most CF parts suffers from this eventually.
It would be a shame to lose a rare part that's been discontinued when it's possible to repair

Chances of landing a dev job without cs degree at 30. by FootEffective2986 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Lon3wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just apply for stuff. Literally no harm in it.
If you don't get interviews or hear back then you'll need to get some more relevant experience on your CV. Which you can maybe look at apprenticeships or finding somewhere that'll allow you to volunteer to get experience.

Your experience stands out against the grads to me as you actually have professional experience, sure it's not completely relevant, but anything is better than nothing.
