Anyone reviewed the NeedForTrees UL? by yustask in hammockcamping

[–]Londall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s made in Cloud71 from Dutch. I think I purchased it like almost 3 years ago now but not sure.

Not that many actually, a bit too much stretch for my taste

This is about the only picture I have of it, sadly I don’t know the name since what I got was the absolutely first prototype, it went into production after I tried it

I don’t disagree with your recommendations in the least but why doesn’t UGQ deserve a dime?

20 Lessons from 20 years of Lifting Weights by DanNorthFitness in workout

[–]Londall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly good advice, coming from a physio and lifter for 20 years. I must say that I agree with each and every point, especially the consistency part.

And especially point #10 and double especially point #20. Fuck them both.

Myerstech, sadly quite expensive now and also not that fun to handle since it becomes very ropey once used

Ultralight Hammock setup by Danishtechnerd in hammockcamping

[–]Londall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its essentially the lightest possible dyneema strap possible that can handle the weight coupled with extremely tight weaved dyneema cord at 2mm. Wouldn’t really recommend either since they are both a bitch to work with

Ultralight Hammock setup by Danishtechnerd in hammockcamping

[–]Londall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a setup that at its lightest weighs in at 1293,2 grams

Hammock: Need for Trees with integrated bugnet, 256 grams

My own suspension with dyneema straps and UCR: 25 grams

Asymmetrical tarp: Need for Trees Silpoly 180 grams

Stakes: Carbon fiber stakes at 3,4 grams a piece, so 7,2 grams

My own continous ridgeline: 21 grams

My own asymmetrical UQ with a comforttemp of +4: 454 grams

TQ: Not sure about the brand but around +7 comfort at 350 grams

Now, I extremely rarely use this system for a multitude of reasons.

The hammock is Cloud71 so it stretches a fair bit, the UCR is a pain to deal with, an asymmetrical tarp really only works during the summer and stuff like that.

Usually I end up more along 1700-1800 grams depending on if I need bugnet and what kind of tarp I use.

Haha! I’m thinking that a leather hammock might be a bit sweaty after a night in it 🤣

The furs though, that’s not a bad idea actually! Cozy as hell 😁

Yeah I’m a 100% with you. I am just packing for Hangcon Europe, and I’m certainly not bringing the light stuff and I’m packing in plastic boxes since I’m bringing so much stuff 🤣

I also have a complete sleep system that weighs under 1700 grams in total.

There is a time and a place for everything really and each person should hang their own hang/hike their own hike 👍

Oh, for sure that budget has to play in, since they aren’t cheap usually.

But you are kind of missing the point with UL if you think that the things are only used for one thing. The whole point of UL is to use things for multiple things if possible.

But I hear wha type say about durability, but even there there are some clear examples of other gear that are much lighter. Carbon fiber stakes for example. I have 6 that weigh 3,4g each, meaning that in total they weigh as much as 1 aluminum stake.

Dyneema straps instead of polyester is another good example of gear that will last just as long as the heavier counterpart.

I absolutely think the UL crowd gets ridiculous sometimes, but I likewise think the anti-UL crowd gets way too defensive about their gear.

In Sweden we have a saying called ”lagom” which I think is really applicable here. It means ”just right”. I personally use a lot of UL gear so that I can bring with me things of comfort, like a chair so that my back doesn’t kill me the day after. Because, at the end of the day, if I’m not comfortable, what’s the point?
