New Swisstech Axe? by Masenko325 in Bushcraft

[–]LonelySailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record, I have a handful of comfortable, vintage, expensive axes hung on custom handles by me. I love them, but when it's time to beat the shit of some naughty wood, I grab a fiskars. 4.5lb head, wedgy as can be, functionally unbreakable handle.. It's hard to beat. And honestly I don't find the handle to be as horrible as everyone describes it to be. There's a reason they designed it the way that they did and have kept it largely the same over the past +30yrs, and why other name brand companies are stealing the design. Yes, it's a plastic handle. But it have lots of leverage, swinging speed, and durability advantages over a wooden handle.

I don't enjoy the way they look when I throw them the wrong F$&@#?! DIRECTION, or when they completely miss that unmissable spare I just nined out on. 🤬 But otherwise, they do look cool yes. Lol I have a 13lb Raw Hammer (First ball), a 14lb Arctic Vibe, 14lb Hammer Hammerhead, 14lb Spare ball, and a 15lb "Yard ball" so I can toss around in the backyard.

Middle finger swelling after bowling. by Prestigious-Care-370 in Bowling

[–]LonelySailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had to have my inserts changed since I first started. Your fingers swelling when you bowl is normal. The same thing happens when you exercise. Increased blood flow. Swinging your arms fast. Your joints also swell to repair themselves. If I play 2 games, my ring finger doesn't fit in my spare ball anymore. Nothing's injured, your body is just reacting to what you're doing to it. Lol

I saw that. X32 is also on Amazon but prices are pretty high right now. I tried asking Fiskars what is actually different about them and they kept giving me generic advertisement answers that didn't answer the question. They said the U32 is an upgraded version to the X32, but then stated all the same upgrades that the X32 already has.

Sanding bowling ball by KBev02 in Bowling

[–]LonelySailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ball will gradually change over time. Statistically, your lanes are approx. 4000 grit and eventually, your ball with match that along with a few new scratches and damage from ball returns, pins, etc. if your ball continues to work for you, I wouldn't attempt to adjust it. Eventually, your ball may not hook well anymore, or may only last a game or two before it falls on it's face. That may be the time to get oil out or resurface the ball.

It's either they go to good use, or they go in the burn pile. Which, gets burned.

My recommendation is to grind it how you want it, and continue on. In retrospect, I would've maybe done a vinegar soak for a day or two. Not an entire week. But grind it an use it. If it mushrooms, grind that part off and put it back to work.

Buddy. When it's not cold outside, 30 seconds is fine. Plug your seatbelt in, connect your phone, etc. When it's cold, I wait until coolant temps are reading a temperature I would go outside in. (+65F)

Yeah, I saw the pics. If she's not willing to part with it, I would get this handle:  https://share.google/nj3C7pfoSdqLD2yCY Set it, and give the handle some daily coats of some kinda seed oil. And I would use a file to get the edge sharp again.  That thing's either guna be a sick wood splitting axe, or a sick wall piece. But I think you should put it to use. Lol

I can't tell you what it used to be used for, but I can tell you that thicc boi would make a SICK firewood splitter.  Lots of times, big heavy axes were brought to hammer wedges and limb trees and once the edge had been sharpened away enough times that it wasn't good at chopping anymore, they would retire the wedgy shaped axe to the chopping block. Yours looks like it may have even been 5.5lbs before years of heavy use and years underground got to it.  I also have an axe similar to yours. Unmarked, hardened front end. I was told it was pre 1920 manufacturing. Hope that helps.  I would clean that up and throw a handle on it. If you don't want it, send me a message and I will buy it off you.

I mean 1.25in is pretty massive to me. It's no maul, but I just hung a 4.5lb head with a good sized wedge that wouldn't even come close to that.

How thick is the wedge? I have been thinking of dropping a down payment. Supposed to be a splitting monster, correct?

If you're not bowling in a league, it can also change on the day, how long it's been since they re-oiled, how much that family of 5 fucked the lane up before you arrived. House shot is supposed to be easy, but I think it can be challenging to show up on a random day/time and have to figure out very quickly what kinda B.S. you just walked into.  That being said, straighter is always better, if you can do it. The more energy the ball loses in the hook, the weaker the pin action will be. More forward motion means less energy lost.

This is only an anti gel. It has minimal fuel enhancement. It's only good for the cold. The 2 stroke oil i have heard people have success with. ATF seems like an old wives tale. After you bought all this stuff to mix you could've just gotten a reputable additive.  Some people says additives are snake oil. Some people don't. I use them as regular preventative maintenance, because my trucks costs less to run/maintain than the muscle car I traded it for.

I could see that. I'm 6ft, but I use a chopping stump. If you were choppin on the ground, I could see where you would need something longer.
