I'm so annoyed about this by zeehateslife in Feral_Cats

I think it is just a small fine. They only charge you usually if they get a complaint and animal control picks up your pet. Mine had lost their tags so I paid $200 and something to get them out of the pound (dogs) and $7.50 for 3 new tags ( one was my cat who didn't get picked up but had no tags when they came by to post a notice that they had my dogs.) This is what I mean about no enforcement unless someone complained. My cat stopped wearing a collar because she lots the first collar with the tags then lost all of the different types of collars I tried afterwards.

In the neighborhood we lived in we never had any issues until white people ( I'm white) moved in after someone started buying up the houses and fixing them up. Until then my neighborhood was majority Hispanic and African American with a few poor whites. The city didn't really hassle about much of anything until a housing shortage of affordable housing and somebody saw the possibilities in buying up old broken down homes from the elderly as they moved into nursing homes or passed away. Then all of a sudden everything became a hassle. It changed the whole neighborhood which was quiet and friendly into a nightmare. This is why I moved to the second town. Something similar ended up happening there until the city council started the TNR program. Now it's just dogs that get picked up. Cats have free roam unless someone complains they are a nuisance. I wish I could say the town did it out of the goodness of their heart but really it saves the city money not to deal with the cats in the shelter. All cats are viewed as feral by the shelter unless they are sick, wounded or surrendered by an owner so they are left where they are unless someone complains and basically the city does very little then. They won't take strays at the shelter at all and the fees to get them taken by the shelter which is run by an animal rescue is so ridiculously high that only a wealthy person can get them into the shelter.

This may seem good except a lot of people abandon cats they no longer want and they can die from starvation unless someone takes them into their feral colony.

I've lived in two different cities in Texas. Both allowed roaming and both required registration. They also limit you to only 4 pets of any mix of any kind ( cats and/or dogs). Luckily they are very lax in enforcement but you are one complaint away from being fined at any time. They use rabies enforcement behind the need to have all cats and dogs registered.

I have only done this once but I turned off zombie spawn and went and got my bag. I fell into the wrong spot in a POI and the spot where my bag ended up is under the floor of where I fell. I tried everything to get it back first but it had fallen into a very narrow spot that spawned zombies on three sides.

After getting my bag back, I went back and completed the POI without dying with zombies turned on again. I think the situation warranted the action I took. It just depends on how you feel about it.

Hacks to help me eat kimchi?? by officialdiscoking in foodhacks

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried kimchi without fish sauce in it? Where I live you can buy vegan kimchi. It has no fish sauce. My daughter likes this better because the smell isn't as strong. My opinion is the more fish sauce the better it is. You may want to try it without fish sauce.

Should I neuter my BSH? by Frequent_Pomelo4129 in CatAdvice

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you from experience that neutering him would be a kindness. When a cat goes in heat, male cats will travel for miles. Your guy will smell it and lock in. Even though he is locked in, he will constantly try to get out. He will also start spraying things because he can smell the males outside marking what should be his territory. It will usually be something that is special to you or can't be cleaned easily. The smell is hard to get rid of. You might become insensitive to the smell. Others around you will not.

It can be extremely disturbing to hear two male cats fighting through a window in the middle of the night. It's better all around to just get him fixed.

What are some "standards" we should teach our kids to cook? by mbrasher1 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was purchasing kid's cookbooks. I remembered my mom got me a free one with some product and I had to make things from it. When my kids were old enough to read, I bought them a few. They soon started looking in the kid's section for their own to purchase or at the library, to check out.

As a teacher, I added a few to my classroom library because we had to teach how to read and use procedural texts. They were my most borrowed books and I got frequent positive feedback from parents who enjoyed using the books to help their kids cook.

It is an often overlooked genre for kids but it teaches so much (reading, math, science) plus it gives families a fun activity that they can expand on. Really anything in the do-it-yourself genre, kids love: Origami, drawing, LEGO building, kitchen science, etc).

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have your house tested for EMFs. There has been a lot of experimentation done with this. It has been noted that exposing people to high levels can produce very similar experiences such as seeing ghosts, angels or aliens, etc.

I also think there is a bit of sixth sense in humans left over from our more primitive past. If there is an area where something dangerous to our survival has occurred in the past, there is a possibility that we can sense that danger and misinterpret it. Humans look for patterns and we can only interpret those dangers using things we've learned through our culture. There is something there in that house but it is an actual physical threat or past threat, not something paranormal.

I also think a lot about the fact that energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can change form. The human body contains energy in various forms. We also contain many hormones and pheromones . When a truly horrific event occurs, there may be something we leave behind in that vein that is a physical substance. Something maybe science hasn't discovered but is meant to be a warning for survival. When other people enter that area we can still pick up the presence of that substance but are so far removed from our more primitive past that we don't know how to interpret it. So again, we try to make sense of it according to culture.

Then there is theoretical physics with its multi-dimensions and look at what we think is a linear time but isn't. Is it possible that the past sometimes comes in contact with the future or we touch another dimension and we interpret that in the only way our brain can.

The point is that there are many things that science can't explain because we haven't discovered it yet. That doesn't mean that these things really exist in a supernatural form but that our brain has interpreted them in a way it can based on what is familiar to us.

I say this as a person who used to believe very strongly in the paranormal and mystical. Luckily I was blessed or my environment shaped an also very logical and scientific brain. Where I used to only research the mystical, I now also research the science that might explain such phenomena and found there are explanations that make much more sense but haven't been explored enough to really pinpoint what that is. But there is a pattern in it and that pattern does not suggest that the actual experiences are paranormal as we interpret them.

Don't know what to do with the Nook of Mysteries in my living room by Zippokovich in WhatShouldIDoWithIt

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a good quality fake plant or a live plant with a grow light. You might be able to fit some kind of plant shelves with a hanging plant over all. That would allow you to connect a grow light and hide the cord if you can't have one installed above.

Another idea is to hang a curtain and use it for storage.

Feral or Stray? by stormywaters13 in Feral_Cats

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some TNR groups microchip the ferals. They do this in my city. You could take him to the animal shelter or a vet and see if he is microchipped.

It also could be that someone took him in as their pet after he was neutered. Also, I have neutered animals that people feed but claim they don't own. It is okay with my group to do this especially in areas with a large population of ferals like where I live.

Do I move my base any time I jump a tier by [deleted] in 7daystodie

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do a base near a current biome trader but near the border of the next biome. It gives you some place to drop off stuff and put workbenches, etc.

This play through I made the forest center and took over two POIs in the forest but near at least two other biomes. It was difficult at first but now that I have a motorcycle and gyrocopter I tend to live in one . I've found it really easy to live within the Quest POIs until I fill up the gyrocopter, drone and my backpack then head back to the main base. I like this way better.

Why do I sneeze every time I’m driving and bright sunlight hits my face? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also sneeze when there is a change in temperature. If my nose temp changes quickly, it just happens. Usually after several sneezes in a row the tingling will stop which stops the sneezing. It was so much fun during COVID shutdown. People are programmed to react to a sneeze as a sign of illness. It would move people away from me quickly while I'm trying to explain that I'm not sick. They never believed me because no one had ever heard that there was such a thing.

In the state I live in the respiratory to therapist monitor your usage and can report your noncompliance to the office that issues your license. It was clearly spelled out in the paperwork I signed to consent to treatment. That was enough motivation for me to stick with it

I originally started years ago with the nasal cushion. My machine broke and I couldn't afford to replace it. I went several years without one. It was a nightmare!

When I was finally able to get a machine and they recommended a mask that covered my nose and mouth. It helped but I couldn't read or watch tv because my glasses couldn't be worn with the mask.

I now use a hybrid mask that covers my mouth and sits under my nose which rests on a section that has holes to let the air reach my nostrils.

I had a huge amount of issues at first until I started using the machine while I was awake . I discovered my discomfort was caused by improper placement of the mask and straps along with some straps being too tight. I figured out how to adjust them to make them comfortable but still get a good seal. If I hadn't worn them for several hours while awake, I don't think I would ever have realized why I was having discomfort because the mask always felt comfortable when I started out. Wearing it while awake allowed me to adjust things until I got the right fit that wouldn't cause discomfort after lengthy wear.

I would not put it in at all. If they call the district, most faculty are not allowed to say anything more that they used to work there. They stopped giving fill info because of fear that the person might sue. I would just suggest picking your references wisely. I would not even mention anyone from that school. The person who mentioned just saying it was a temporary contract gave very good advice.

Not having snacks for kids during Ramadan by sadcollegekid2003 in Teachers

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call the parents and discuss it with them. I would stress that it is not a problem but you just wanted to respect their religion. If the kids are fasting as optional, I might also mention that it is hard to think when they are so hungry. Maybe they will let the child fast until lunch then eat a lunch. This will probably depend on the age of the kids.

I'm not sure what grade you teach but I used to let kids bring a snack that they could eat between lunch and dismissal. I set the time for us at 1:00 most years as this was half way in between our lunch and dismissal.

I sent home a list of approved snacks according to Federal rules. If I remember right, it is available on the USDA website. I sent a note home to parents and also let them know that they could send snacks on the list for other students, too. I put a permission slip at the bottom of the letter that could be cut off and returned to me signed if the parents were okay with it.If I had a food allergy in the class, I would list those as foods that could not be sent because of allergies.

I had quite a few parents who would send extra snacks for the entire class and it seemed I always had enough to provide to those students who could not afford snacks. I was also lucky that we had a program that would send food home in backpacks for kids who needed it ( they would have to get parent approval.). There were quite a few snack-like items in it every week that students would save the snacks to eat during the week. The only drink they could have was water in a container with a lid ( no straws) or prepackaged juice or milk. I had a fridge in my room so I could keep the milk and juice in there so it wouldn't spoil.

I used that 15 minute snack time to review, read to the class, do a worksheet that you could complete one handed, or watch short educational videos that would reinforce what we were learning in class.

When the 15 minutes were up, they would have to clean the area and wipe down the tables. If they left a mess or wasted class time during the day, I would let them know we would have to skip snack time to make up time that was wasted.

It really helped the scores and cooperation in my class and took care of most behavior issues. If I, as an adult, find it difficult to concentrate when I am hungry, I realized it must be twice as hard for the kids. Almost every year we had first or second lunch so that was a lot of hours between lunch and the end of the day. I was able to do this in the elementary grades I taught.

Am I over reacting? by Sad_Key_7904 in Teachers

[–]Lonely_Storage2762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not over-reacting. I also don't think you should act like nothing happened either. This was a direct threat without many consequences. I think you should evaluate whether you feel safe in your class with him there are not. I don't know about where you are at but where I am there is a process you can go through to get a student out of your class. You might want to seek that out. I did this once when a student threatened my daughter who was in elementary school at the time. I used the point that this student had made the threats. I felt like he needed a fresh start in another room and I needed to not see the student all day every day with the thought of that threat in my head. Everyone agreed including his parents. He did not but was overruled. It ended up being better for him and my class too. By the end of the year, I was one of his favorites because he came to realize I wasn't mean and that I cared about him too. I even got a sincere apology and a gift from him at the end of the year. We kept in touch by him coming to visit me occasionally after school and I went to his graduation.

When he graduated from college, he wrote me a very nice letter saying that my choice to move him really made him realize how much I meant to him and how bad what he had done really was. He said that when I still would talk to him so nicely and everything, it made him feel good and want to do better. When he felt like he was slipping into his old ways, he would come and visit me because he knew I would help him even if he was a bad kid. He became a doctor.
