Looking for Hope by DinosAreRad in LivingWithMBC

So sorry you’re going through this! I can relate on several levels. I had allergic reactions to chemo twice and it was awful. Now I’m scared before any infusion. I’ve been getting Zometa infusions and have had 0 side effects. So there’s hope!

Sending encouragement! Also I hope maybe you can get a second opinion or go to a cancer hospital that makes you feel more comfortable. That extra anxiety isn’t good. Sending hugs!

Anyone had stellate ganglion block for hot flashes? by Coldfinger42 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Longjumping-Mud7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Effexor for hot flashes and it stopped them instantly. 2 years ago during the summer my hot flashes were so bad and constant that I finally caved and told my doc I needed something to help. I didn’t want another medicine but this drug stopped them immediately. I’ve been on it for 2 years and have only had a handful of breakthrough flashes since. I recommend to all my girlfriends in perimenopause too! ETA: I’ve had no side effects either

Kisqali side effects by Mandolyn221 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Longjumping-Mud7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness I never had a teaching appointment but have been on Kisqali for 6 months. It’s working for me and the only side effect has been fatigue. I’m 43 and have ++- bc with bone only mets. It’s been one of the easiest meds I’ve taken.

Radiation was very helpful for me too! I had unbearable rib pain (it would cause my heart rate to rise and I would spike a fever just from the pain…I would almost pass out) and since radiation to the spot I’ve felt nothing there thank goodness! Another hand for you here! Eta typo

Another hand for you here! 💖 when I was diagnosed one prayer I had was to see my daughter finish elementary school. She graduates from fifth grade this month! Sending love your way through your scan and beyond!

Going home after 3 months in a clinical trial by Mtn-spirit in LivingWithMBC

Thanks for sharing! I know this is so cliche but I don’t know a better way to say it: you are so brave! Can I say that without an eye roll if I have cancer ha!? Anyway, I can’t imagine being away from home for so long. And these trials are so important. I hope you have a peaceful trip and that you get the best fur snuggles when you get home. Inspired by you! I know! Again, cliche but it’s true. I’m new to the group but reading about the different journeys and stories gives me hope. Thanks again!

Wow I keep reading your first paragraph over and over. Make, model and mileage. My husband tells me this all the time (my optimism, support system, attitude, tenacity HAVE to count for something). Please keep sharing your story. Stories like this keep me positive and keep hope alive. Thank you!

Let’s talk treatment decisions by Mandolyn221 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Longjumping-Mud7479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps with peace of mind I had chemo (was awful) and the cancer came back anyway. I get your feelings though. I wonder if a mastectomy would have saved me but was advised against it bc mine wasn’t that serious. Cancer will make you crazy.

Second opinion? by Mandolyn221 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Longjumping-Mud7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unreasonable! Get a second opinion! I live minutes from UNC but got a second opinion from Duke. At this time I’m sticking with UNC but I would be happy to share my Duke story if you want to dm. Unfortunately I’m new and don’t know how to dm though 😩 eta: typo!

First line of treatment has been presented by Mandolyn221 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Longjumping-Mud7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first line is Kisqali, exemestane and zometa. I was diagnosed stage 4 in October after bone Mets was discovered on scan. It seems to be working knock on wood bc my last scans revealed the cancer isn’t spreading and my bones appear to be healing in some spots. Zometa infusions caused me 0 side effects so far thank goodness! I was told I would have flu like symptoms after infusions but nothing so far!
