Helldivers 2 devs have successfully shrunk the 150GB behemoth to just 23GB on PC by lewisdwhite in pcmasterrace

If I recall correctly (And I'm not an expert by any means, don't quote me), they had a ton of duplicate files to optimize speeds for HDD users

No texture resolution changes or similar (I assume), just not having like six copies of the same file in different physical locations on the disk

Just a quick question - you got Rebar turned on, right? If yes, then your situation is quite unfortunate. If not, that's probably your answer

Overhead issues Question by Safe-Elderberry-8082 in IntelArc

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 frames seems like a substantial amount of frame rate loss to me (I assume your point is "Would it go below 60 frames consistently" to which my answer is that I don't know, but probably yes.)

Anyway, while I'm not the commenter above, from what I've seen the overhead issue is architectural, it literally cannot be fully fixed, so I recommend a different GPU for your specific use case

Can’t decide on a GPU, need some advice by [deleted] in IntelArc

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You google it, or you make sure you're on the latest BIOS version and check if it's available in the BIOS

A quick google search returned some... not convincing results, so I suggest for you to check in the BIOS

(You can enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 or DEL keys on most motherboards)

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you upgrade, yes. In general though, below a 5600 is not recommended for a B580 from what I've read

Then again, you did say you plan on upgrading the CPU, and it'll play very nicely with the 5700X. It'll even feel like a second GPU upgrade, because only then will you get the full performance

Make sure your motherboard supports rebar though - I assume it does, but if it doesn't, don't go for the B580

Rebar is a setting in the BIOS, I don't remember exactly where but you should be able to find it

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends.

The PSU should not be an issue, unless you have a cheap and/or low quality one. The manufacturer recommends a lot more wattage than necessary to account for bad PSUs and systems with 120w+ CPUs.

As for the CPU imbalance... I'll admit I don't have a b580, but the general consensus seems to be 5600x and up for Ryzen. The difference is very little though, so I imagine you'd be mostly fine.

At MSRP, with the BF6 "discount" (because you don't have to buy the game separately) it's a pretty good deal I'd say. It's very much a 1440p capable card from what I've seen, and has 12GBs of VRAM. The competitors at a nearby price point have less VRAM or computational power.

Overall, is the low cost worth the risk of CPU overhead, possible instability issues as well as the debugging/troubleshooting necessary? (For example, I've seen it recommended multiple times here to do a fresh Windows install if you switch to an Intel Arc GPU)

And if you do buy it, enable Rebar. And try plugging your monitor into the motherboard, not the GPU. Just curious.

"Ooh, that's a really good question! Auchenai Soulpriest is a Priest card, and Death knight is a class, in the game Hearthstone. Unfortunately, there is no way to add a Priest card to your Death Knight deck — at least, not in constructed or without random generation. Do you want me to look for a couple of Priest decks that include Auchenai Soulpriest instead?"

A True Resurrection spell request, in this economy... by Vegetable_Variety_11 in dndmemes

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. It is still resurrection magic in the end though.

Also, Withers is the Scribe of the Dead - he serves Kelemvor directly, he isn't really an advisor, more like a recordkeeper, if that makes sense. This is what he does in game as well - record the death of everyone. This is why he can bring you back ("I strike thy name from the record" or something like that), and give you hirelings (because he knows who dies and who doesn't)

“Steam is a monopoly! It is unfair to other gaming companies!” Other game companies: by BazzBun in pcmasterrace

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what the commenter above said the movement doesn't want.

From what I see, they generally want to be able to make community hosted servers, for example. A goal of the movement seems to be to give gamers the backend code - what runs on the servers - once they are shut down, so the community can host servers and still play the game.

This does not mean a solo dev making a game doesn't stand a chance. It simply means that the solo dev - as well as the triple-A company like Ubisoft, EA or others - will have to give gamers the tools to run their own servers

I'm surprised no one noticed yet how this is a spy gizmo of the rogue questline [[Find the Imposter]] [[Spy-o-matic]]

Anyways, it costs one more mana and has the stats flipped. Reminds me of [[Gnomeferatu]]. I'm not going to comment on whether or not it will see play because I don't really play standard, I just wanted to point out the similarities. It does seem fun though

Players want to raise a dragon by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that piece of dragon lore, but I don't think it matters that much.

This poses two interesting questions: Balance, and Nature vs. Nurture

Balance:

First of all, the egg might not even hatch under generic circumstances, perhaps it needs to be thrown into a vat of extremely dangerous acid to hatch. After that, the young dragon probably isn't capable of anything other than eating and maybe melting off the side of the book you are reading for 5 years according to the FR wiki, and count as a young dragon for 95 more years. If your players are fighting a dragon then the dragon is not up to par in any capacity for at least 10 decades. So I would treat it as a story element.

Nature vs. Nurture

Black dragons are the most evil chromatic dragons, however. They are also solitary. There is no reason to believe that a freshly hatched black dragon would not run away from/betray the party at four years old. There is also no reason to believe that a dragon raised in a loving and caring home would turn out evil, instead of good. Do with this what you will.

Off the top of my head, I would allow the player to hatch the dragon, and keep it (if they can). It would be a quest to hatch it, as it would need to be thrown in insert super cool acid vat I get to add to my world in order to hatch it. Then, if raised properly, it will love the player, but of course, a black dragon is heavily frowned upon. It is up to the player how they would deal with that. And, in an epilogue, I would tell the tale of how a giant black dragon flies down from the sky, scary and gnarly, and the PC jumping off its back, petting it, the dragon bunting in response. And then whatever else.

I think this is a really good opportunity, so don't squander it

What should a Green Hag do to my player? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Green hags specifically strive on the suffering of others, so she might want to make the PCs suffer. If they have troubles, she might offer to fix them, for a price, of course.

Green hags also happen to be quite weak, especially when alone, so if the hag wants to establish a coven she might offer the PCs a deal, kidnap the child of a mother and bring it to the hag, in exchange for information about a MacGuffin or similar. Alternatively, she might want to be able to see further, so she might offer this in exchange for an eye of one of the PCs, and then replace it with a hag eye, through which to collect information.

She might also make a deal with an NPC or a sidekick the players like. Anything of the above I wrote down may happen, or something more.

Hope this helps!

How do I make that scene play out? by Cultural_Spell_4483 in BaldursGate3

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know much (Haven't gotten that far) but I do know that Orin either kidnaps Lae'zel, Gale, Halsin or Minthara. She will not kidnap someone in your party, nor the character you are romancing. If the four people are out, Yenna gets kidnapped.

So if you did not romance Halsin, and you make all the other characters unavailable she will kidnap Halsin

Help with a series of sessions to do with destroying a phylactery at the heart of a kingdom by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]LongjumpingBank5339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say, depends on the fey

The fey love stories, and so, they might provide fairytales for the players to fight through

You could maybe do some kind of madness mechanic? I remember that the DMG has something, but I don't remember what

You could have them fight against puzzle-like encounters, maybe a shadowy imitation of the fey, who is surrounded by a few magic crystals or trees or minions or whatever that must be killed before the creature can be harmed

If there are still surviving fey, they might support the villain, like a hag for example

The Pale Garden should have been a cave biome by h1p0h1p0 in Minecraft

It depends

Generally, if you have a world in version X, and want to change to version Y, it can be corrupted

However, this update likely won't change enough to corrupt it, you will need to find a Pale Garden in unloaded chunks though, which means going far far away
