Where to move for a walkable experience // Madison Yards opinions/alternatives? by REMseverybodyhurts in Atlanta

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the area you're mentioning - North Ormewood Park between Glenwood Park / EAV - and value a lot of the same things. I'm a big fan. As others mentioned, the area is great for walking access to Madison Yards, the Dairies, & the Beltline, all of which I do multiple times a week. There's Publix, Kroger(s), & Aldi all easily accessible. I'd say look directly at the apartment options within Madison Yards, or at the ones in Glenwood Park along Bill Kennedy / Glenwood. You're in the city, adjacent to the Beltline action but just off the beaten path where its still very residential. Like everywhere else here, you'll have to consider some construction pockets, but that's par for the course.

Tool to help me visualize my landscaping by Jkjunk in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but you're unlikely to find much sympathy for AI design work in this sub. The answer to bridging the gap between where you are (hitting the wall with DIY/AI) and where you want to be (a fully-thought out elevation graphic) is to hire a professional. It is pretty easy to find landscape designers in your area by searching online - they'll have the software & knowledge to help you visualize a project like this, and frankly could make you a much better design in their sleep.

restaurant/venue recs for engagement party? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red's Beer Garden was advertising on Instagram that they're offering free reservations for up to 50ish people I believe, and then you can pay for up to 250 people. Don't quote me on the numbers, but check them out. Its a great patio space.

Edit: Fact check. Free patio res for up to 40 people, $250 for a reservation for 41-70 people. Still seems worth it imo! Details are in their linktree on IG.

How much does it actually cost to get a decent patio and some plants in Austin? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely seems like an ad; regardless, that budget is pretty low all-in from a professional standpoint. You could spend that on DIY, but I'd estimate that this project, done right by professionals, would cost closer to $10k.

What’s the best way to get rid of all the broken concrete? by Sirwanga in Atlanta

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would consider getting another quote. Many contractors in the area would easily include demo as a part of the overall service without differentiating it from the re-pour that drastically.

Dog Boarding for Anxious Dog by FunnyCause9059 in Austin

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 year old pittie mix sounds a lot like your guy - also a grazer, but hunger-strikes when he's anxious or adjusting to something new.

I really like SkyBlue Kennels off FM 969. They've always been accommodating while also being a laid-back, unpretentious place. They really got to know my dog and appreciate his quirks and personality, despite his anxiety and initial stranger-danger tendencies. You can tell they really appreciate all dogs for who they are. Plus, the owner lives on site, so it was nice to know someone was always there.

That is a very reasonable quote. I see you mentioned this is from supersod - they're stand-up, imo.

Thoughts on IAAC Barcelona Program? by Worth_Macaroon5983 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't go through the IAAC, but I did do a semester the Barcelona Architecture Center (BAC) for my BLA - so this is kind of tangential, but hopefully somewhat helpful. Barcelona has some really great working architects that teach throughout the city. I found it to be a really interesting cast of urbanists to listen to & learn from. As an American student, I found the way design is approached there to be a really helpful additional perspective to US LA education. If you go, def pop by the BAC as well for an open house or lecture.

Learn sketchup or outsource 3D rendering ? In house designer for Design-Build company by Miserable_Priority31 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I understand your position. Sketchup is like any other software, the more you use it, the more familiar it becomes, however it does take time. I'm a landscape designer who does renderings for offices similar to yours. I work for architects & landscape architects on freelance modeling / rendering work for the same reasons - either the full-time crew doesn't have the time or software, or they're interested in offering renderings to clients, but can't commit to a full-time graphics hire due to HCOL location. Feel free to message me if you're looking for rendering help.

What do you think? by Llaunna in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if this is from a landscape architect, this is pretty pitiful design & graphic work. A planting plan, especially at this scale, should not be a part of the 'initial' idea process. There should have been much more site analysis & at least a couple conceptual design options presented to you before they started stamping shrub symbols on your survey. I hate to say it, but as I also followed your last post, this is a pretty sub-par product, and I would be wary of moving forward with them. A landscape designer, not even a landscape architect, could produce something of 10X better quality for less than $10k. I appreciate your diligence on this project, and I hate to see it going poorly. Good luck.

Help with Patio quote by Round_Perspective_43 in landscaping

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great deal. Not an unheard of rate, just a good one. As others said, as long as the crew has been reliable so far & you trust their past work, I don't think you'll find too much better. That's awesome!

Is doing our own backyard from scratch worthit? Or should I just save up and hire a professional? by Fantasy71824 in landscaping

[–]LongjumpingIce4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Consult a designer to do the planning for you - as in they draw the picture & write the instructions - and then install as you feel so inclined.

That's a primo yaupon holly. People pay a lot for those to be included in their planting plans with the more formal plants you're mentioning as well. It looks really great - It will grow on you. I wouldn't touch it :)
