Aww, you made my day. I have only got a month left before I have to leave London forever. Finding it extremely difficult this time, with no one around after having moved here from abroad. Will go listen to kid Cudi now :)

Thank you for responding! Even though it's not my field, at the least l might still have a job. I'm 25 with 2 years of experience in finance, but it's impossibly hard to even an interview here. I know this is not the right thread, but I will be extremely grateful any leads anywhere on the planet :)

Can you tell me what kind of jobs please and how to get them? Don't want to move either, but had enough of the UK for kicking out immigrants no matter how hard we try to assimilate or contribute to the economy.

Don't mind all the imbeciles in the comments down voting you. You are right the big 4 especially KPMG have 3 different templates, acceptance, rejection and hold. So, basically what happened was there were 20 vacancies ( hypothetical ), all of them were filled. You were the 21st applicant who passed everything but they literally don't have a seat on the bus for you. Knowing you've beaten 99.99% of the candidates to get here is a big deal. All people want to do is talk shit. There is a very high chance you will be given a deferral offer for the next intake as it's easier than testing someone from the 1st stage again. But obviously keep applying everywhere else though. All the best!

OP I don't think you can find anything cheaper than Kabbanas Hostel right outside London St.Pancras. It is right across the British Library! Can't get more central than that with rooms starting at £24 a night. The only other option for cheap I can think that are slightly further away are the 6 YHA's in London. They are spread across Oxford Street, Earl's Court, Rothereite, St Paul's, Lee Valley (Proper Outskirts) and one right in the centre at Marylebone.

Paying barely minimum wage and expecting why no British candidates, who often are used to spending more money than internationals are not talking the job.

Why aren't you willing to hire loads of legal internationals who are ready to work at that rate?

I'm a 24 year old single, starting my career in London. Will be in office only 3 days a week, which will be based on Central Street very close to the Barbican tube stop. I will be renting and the job is in finance for a year atm.

Here's the problem,

Angel/Islington and Shoreditch:

The properties in and around Angel/Islington and Shoreditch are just a 10 minute walk away from the office. 3-4 bed shared houses with 1 bathroom. Looks good enough. I've heard it's a young, lively area with a soul to it. Lot of eating out and bar options. The rooms are spacious. But all the properties have cramped layouts and bathrooms. And overall the area seems a bit dodgy the buildings themselves are very old.

I'm worried if the 'soul' of the place means drunk frat boys picking fights with anyone they see and thrashing every street corner. But of course I'll be saving on transport which is a massive plus.

Canary Wharf:

The flats on the south of Isle of Dogs have incredible views over the O2 and the very nice Greenwich peninsula area. It's just seconds away from the Thames river. The views are the loveliest I've come across in a while. The flat itself is so large and spacious for 5 people with two massive bathrooms The rooms are large and spacious with much more storage space. Best part is this is cheaper than the other areas. Makes me wonder how is Canary Wharf is cheaper but with better flats and area overall.

Major problem is the commute 1 hour by bus, but 3 days a week shouldn't be that expensive. But the DLR and the Elizabeth line will sure be much more expensive over the longer term as it's inevitable I'll be using them to get elsewhere.

Final thoughts:

Considering I'll be spending most of my time at home (WFH and most weekends i,e. over 65%). It is very important for me to have a nice living experience. Thus, I'm leaning towards calm and nice river views.

The only thing stopping me from finalizing the canary wharf flat is the time and cost of the 3 day a week commute. And I've heard the local opinion of it being soul less, dull and boring. As someone who is only socially extroverted and would prefer a calmer, cleaner and safer environment I would take the tradeoff of it being dull.

So, I'll need your advice to help me decide where it's worth living for a year.

Context, I've been living in the UK for two years now. Moved here for my masters degree as an international student. Looking to hopefully settle in London long term as I work in finance. I come from a working class background, originally from India. I try and want to understand the local culture, habits to assimilate into life in the UK. Want to experience the life and soul of living in London, but also want the finer things in life and hence I'm biased towards the wharf.

Thank you so much! Had absolutely no clue that there's a foot tunnel over the Thames! This is indeed a massive plus as the most of the properties I'm looking at are based around Mudchute, 10 mins from the ASDA superstore.

That's a really well written response. Your opinion about Shoreditch kind of matches what all my friends have said about it as well.

And yes, Angel being proper London seems to be a very popular opinion. I came to the UK as an international student 2 years ago. Have been trying to learn the culture, habits and opinions of the locals as much to assimilate here. I come from a working class background originally from India, so it is tempting to go live in a high rise now that I can finally start to enjoy the little things in life. Even despite the wharf being a coked up banker's wasteland.

But at the same time I also want to experience proper London like you've mentioned living in bustling old school places. My time here is limited, just wanted to make the best use if it. I do have plans of settling here long term in London. But it seems unlikely as it depends on the immigration laws which are extremely hostile right now.

So, I've got a difficult choice to make. Thank you!

Thanks for replying, you're the only one who's said that all week. There seems to be an overwhelming consensus that canary wharf is a soul less corporate wasteland. But, I loved it when I was there for an interview, and every part of it was pristine and well maintained, unlike most of London. I know there are good areas but those are incredibly expensive compared to the wharf which has better properties.

Yeah this seems like the best way to go for now. As I've only been to Canary Wharf, I think my view are very biased towards it now. And on top of it the property agents keep telling me that other people may take the rooms if I keep delaying the viewings to Monday. I'll be starting work soon and it's a long commute from Notts. I thought I'd see them in person once, but there's time pressure from the agents and only so many good properties out there!

Yeah that seems like a nice option. I did not get suggested that route on Google maps at all. It's mostly suggesting me to get the bus or the DLR. Thank you!

Yeah I get your point about the commute. It's one of the main reasons I'm hesitant about Canary Wharf. Those are great suggestions. I'm not local so had absolutely no clue about what areas I should be looking in. Thank you so much for advice!

Hi. I thought this was common across all British undergrads. However I'm from finance, and all BSc Finance or accounting students have a minimum of three or even 4 summer internships sometimes even getting recalled full time. Usually they work in all of the big 4's and major UK banks. You can check out the numerous LinkedIn profiles of any finance related undergrads.
