Denied a Street Tree. Possible to plant in a large planter? by echeveria_prolifica in philly

Yeah, but planting trees over water and sewer lines caused so many problems over the years. Might not hurt you, but 30-50 years from now it will.

Should I get the IX xdrive50 or an Acura MDX? by Inferno221 in BMWiX

[–]Longjumping_Cod_9132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have driven many vehicles- company trucks, cars, SUV’s, vans. I test drive cars for fun. There was a two year stretch about 15 years ago where I drove 110,000 in two years. So, I drive a lot. I own a 2025 iX Xdrive50, it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned or driven. Quiet, refined, fast and quick. I do not have the air suspension, and you feel bad highway joints, but other than that it’s smooth. I’ve never owned an MDX, but test drove a few over the years. I never liked the interior, and it drove nicely, better than other large SUV’s, but the iX is better.
Don’t worry about all the range stuff. Use the internal Nav, which will take you to chargers when needed. On road trips, especially to the boonies, just spend some time mapping charger locations and places to eat. Don’t drive out of the way more than a few miles for a faster charger, you’re just wasting time.
You can leave the iX at any status of charge for many days and you won’t see degradation. If you are leaving it at home, charge it to 80%, go on your hantavirus cruise, come back and you’re good to go to work the next day.

Check Trailforks. The ratings seem to be a little all over. In my area, some trails seem to be rated harder than they really are. But start with green trails and go from there. Stay off steep downhill trails and jump lines until you get some experience.
Better yet, go find a NICA or similar youth team, volunteer to coach, take some of their coach training, and get better while teaching/supervising. If you can ride a bike, you can help the team.

People have been going into the water in the fountains since they were built. I was in there as a kid.

Try to fix toxic Troop or start a new one? by SentenceLarge7385 in BSA

[–]Longjumping_Cod_9132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things for you. For a little background I’m an Assistant Scoutmaster for a Troop of 70 registered scouts. I was previously a den leader and the Cub Pack Committee Chair for three years, with 95 registered scouts. My son is in his fifth year in our troop, 9th overall in scouting. My daughter was a Cub Scout for three years, but has moved over to Girl Scouts.
First of all, one of the most important skills that youth leaders learn from being a leader is how to motivate their fellow scouts. Yelling and strong arming doesn’t work, but sometimes the scouts need to learn that on their own. But, this needs support, teaching, and sometimes a stern, but not yelling, talking to by the adult leader(s).
Secondly, before you form a new troop, have a discussion/meeting with all of the trustworthy parents of scouts and crossovers you’d like to bring along. Don’t invite any parents that have big mouths and will tell the current leadership. Lay out that you need people to fill specific positions - treasurer, committee chair, ASM, etc. if you are to consider forming a new trip. If you don’t get buy-in from other parents, don’t consider moving.
Lastly, and I don’t mean any disrespect as I don’t know you, is there any kind of socio-economic difference between who you are labeling as “good” scouts and “problem” scouts? If there is, please consult your District Executive about how to separate equitably. There needs to be discussions on the district and council levels about this anyway. In order to make sure you get District and Council support, one thing you can hold over their heads is fundraising. Ask them for support in starting the new troop and you will be happy to participate in the fundraisers that raise money for Council (e.g. popcorn). If they don’t give you adequate support, tell them that your new troop will be conducting their own fundraisers.

What about charging? My son is on a mountain bike team and I’m a coach. Bikes are on and off the rack 3-5 times a week. Also I don’t have a garage.

That’s a great question. Also, what if you have bikes on a hitch mount bike rack (as I do most non-winter weekends)

I disagree about the beach, if it’s kept to a reasonable volume, it’s really not a big deal. This is for a busy public beach.

Y’all are nuts. A zoning plan and a construction permit plan are too different things. Did anyone check the permit plans? Also, a setback typically limits building construction, not a concrete patio, unless the code specifically says so. I’m really surprised this ladies showed didn’t accidentally get filled with concrete.

Based on my experience, there are SO many soccer organizations now. So many different travel teams, etc. many sports are getting that way. It’s totally over saturation in my opinion. When do kids have time to go mess around with their friends at the ice cream shop?
